Kyle Busch Fires First Shot of 2024 NASCAR Season and Speaks Up for Fans

  • Kyle Busch has undergone a dramatic transformation in fan perception since he moved from Joe Gibbs Racing to Richard Childress Racing before the 2023 season. He's no longer the most-booed during driver introductions (that's now reserved for his former JGR teammate Denny Hamlin), but instead is one of the most-cheered.
But don't mistake Busch's new persona as someone who doesn't have opinions. He does - and strong ones. The two-time Cup Series champion shared one this weekend at Atlanta with reporters when talking about the season-opening race at Daytona and described it as pathetic, disgraceful, and how the fans deserved better.

Let us return nascar to the racers and the fans. This whole playoff crap is just not getting it. It is not football, baseball, soccer............. it is racing. I still contend that if these guys are the best, they should start the race in the reverse order of the finish of Thrace from the previous week. Shit or get off the pot and stop all this whinning.

maybe nascar can start a new fuel economy series.where you get enough fuel for a 350 mile race, even though its scheduled for a 400 mile race.& whoever runs out of gas last wins the race.they can call it the "GREEN" series.then they can bragg about saving the plannet.

The end of the xfinity race at Atlanta was pathetic also with about half of the field running out of gas with 7 laps to go and for the final overtime laps. Maybe NASCAR has to introduce a mandatory pit stop at halfway point of 3rd stage to eliminate the fuel saving runs early in the race.

The reason Kyle Busch is cheered now is simple he doesn’t drive for Gibbs anymore.
The reason Denny Hamlin has now became the most hated is because he still drives for Gibbs. It’s not rocket science
And yes I had Kyle Busch getting cheered when he went to RCR on my bingo card. Last year when it was rumored Hamlin might not be returning to Gibbs I said the samething he won’t be hated as much if he just went to his own team. After all he would have still been associated with JGR. If he would have left JGR and Toyota all together he would be as popular as Kyle Busch. That’s the simple truth.. the majority don’t like JGR and they don’t like Toyota.

Agree. I’ve been going to Daytona on and off since ‘69 or so. Sure, the venue is spectacular and the pageantry is off the charts. The place reeks of history and the golden days of stock car racing. I was at the track supporting an ARCA team and watched the last few laps of the truck race. It was awful driving and terrible racing. I don’t recall how many trucks were wadded up that night but it was a bunch. Shame what NASCAR has done to the sport. I would love to see a Cup race with no plates at Daytona again, but technology has made rendered most, if not all super speedways unsafe for speeds that would be if plates were eliminated.I’d bet cars could hit 240-250 MPH on the backstretch without them, which exceeds the capability of the track itself, much like the NHRA nitro class racing such as Top Fuel and Funny Car where the track has been shortened by nearly 25% to 1000 feet. Top speeds now for 1000 feet have caught up to 1/4 speeds. Probably won’t be long they have to react and slow the cars down again. It’s an unfortunate result of technology advancement.
