I have food as well as environmental allergies and caffeine definitely has a strong effect on me. I had a patch of acne on the right side of my face consistently for over a year and no matter what I did it wouldn't go away, until I eliminated coffee (my main source of caffeine). My mother has a gluten sensitivity and I am glad that continuing research is being done on the issue. I look forward to watching more of your videos on gluten sensitivity and allergies.

I strongly urge people to start grinding their own organic coffee beans and brewing at home. I cannot tolerate anything but. If I drink non-organic coffee I will have a hyper hashi episode. Stay away from "lite" and "decaf" they have a lot more chemicals added to them in processing. I use to think it was the caffeine that made me feel weird and hyper, it turned out to be the non-organic coffee (crap run of the mill stuff e.g folgers, maxwell house etc.) Thanks Dr. Clark for all of your vids

Thank you so much for this info.
I was drinking instant coffee for many, many years, because it was very convenient for me, but always had stomach problems. I love coffee too much to totally abandon it, so I switched to regular brewed coffee.
    No stomach problems anymore :)

The referenced study did NOT find that egg and potato were cross reactors with gluten antibodies. Hives (chronic urticaria) is definitely associated with Hashimoto's. I have a specific video on that topic.

He is right about instant coffee. I bough a kureg coffee machine and soon after i started to get chest pains. Luckily i realized the connection and immediatly stopped using the kureg. My chest pains stopped.

Unfortunately, coffee in any form really causes or contributes to a worsening of symptoms associated with my assumed DX of hypo. Dealing with textbook symptoms, normal blood tests and SSRI loving doctors. Is there a physician in the grand rapids Michigan area at all competent or literate in hashimoto's. Most of us suffer so deeply and are lives are wasted as a result of these symptoms. The analogy I make is imagine not sleeping for three days, having a hang over and feeling like there is ice forming in your toes, hands and the end of your nose. Imagine going to a gym working out and after a moderate workout feeling like you need to sleep right away. It is a living hellish nightmare. I thank you for your hope.

I'm drinking instant coffee and everytime I start drinking it I get ..what feels like the start of a migraine which just continues to hang around as long as I am drinking my instant coffee. Other foods are much worse for me & they can set off a very bad migraine lasting anything from 2 up to 5 days. Now I am drinking black tea with added lemon zest.

I'm so glad it's only instant coffee. I have one cup of black - usually organic coffee a day. I'm on a gluten free (plus a lot of other things) free diet. Found an excellent coffee recently from Geelong Victoria called Origin Velvet. it's less acidic and not bitter, which is how i like it. I can't do without my coffee either.

whether i react to coffee or dark chocolate is completely dependent on its quality and purity. from average arabica coffee i get brain fog and gluten like symtoms regularly. probably because of a high load of mycotoxins. not so with high-end coffe. similar with dark chocolate. there's currently only one brand i can eaty daily without some kind of reaction. so, quality (no toxins, mold, etc), and purity (no cross contamination) is key for gluten sensitive people.

Rice, yes. See other videos for more info. Peanuts and soy, no according to the research paper. Soy really should be avoided anyway because if you don't have good DPPIV enzyme activity soy breaks down into soymorphins--opiate peptide compounds that negatively effect the brain and gut.

One more comment. If you're serious about getting well, you are going to sacrifice. Personally, I would ear cardboard, if it meant I could get my life back. Truly, the only thing that had any positive results from was juicing heavy on the Vegas and raw vegan Vegas, fruits, nuts and seeds. Ithe jury is still out on see food and my concern is iodine.

how can you train the gluten antibodies to not attack things that are not gluten or that look like?

  • @theland101

I agree with the instant coffee, problematic. I have had problems with eggs, store bought only, fresh farm eggs no problem. I have also had problems with avacado. To me, this was a liver gall bladder indication of problems. High fat reaction. After a liver cleanse, I could tolerate eggs and avacado, but only for a month (till liver toxified again?) I believe there's a connection to liver gall bladder toxicity levels and ability to eat high fat foods??

How about decaf and flavored coffees? Is there a cross reaction to these if they are brewed coffees and not instant?

Does anyone have a list of what you can actually eat. I'm trying and was doing well - but then ate something with corn in it - and had a severe stomach ache for hours.

hi, doctor i read somewhere on line that potatoes and eggs are cross reaction to gluten? is it true? i did the gluten antibody test and it was negative, however i am suffering from hives on palms and feet. does that mean i have gluten sensitivity? i have hashimoto, so i am on gluten free milk free diet but i still have hives. what about fruits and nuts? what should i eat?

I don't drink coffee cause I get migraines from it. (drip coffee) I just had my test upper gi and colonoscopy. I know I AM not suppose have any dairy. My test haven't came yet and they couldn't get down far enough in small intestine cause it kept shutting my oxygen off. He tried it a second time, same thing....Oxygen so he stopped the procedure, said the hospital needs to look at that. He said if its not Seliac of a biopsy that was taken, he'll call it IBS. They found a 8mm hernia too. I don't have the results in yet.
