There was major band drama around the encore. Phil wanted, REALLY wanted, to break out Dark Star here instead of seven weeks later, but Jerry insisted it wasn't ready. Which is why, when Jerry went into Foolish Heart, Phil flipped him off. Nevertheless, a great show, the last of the Greek, and a great encore. And maybe Jerry was right.

Hey now I was at this show and it has all the elements of a Barnburner 🎸 Box of Rain to end the first set , Foolish Heart ❤ Encore 🎸 the band always seemed to have an extra gear at the Greek theatre. The Not Fade Away Garcia’s guitar tone just beautiful. Too bad this was their last performance at the Greek ! Mahalo Elaine Peace ☮ and Aloha from Hawaii 🙏🌴🤙🍄🏄🏻♂💨🌺🐬🐋🐠🏖🍺🏝🌋🐳😎

I saw the boys 2 weeks before this show up in Sacramento @ Cal Expo...a GREAT time for the group, the whole year of 89- thru Brent's last tour was fierce. Soo glad I saw a few great ones
That Expo run is awesome, all three days. Truckin > Wang Dang > Crazy Fingers > Cumberland > Eyes on the 4th, and the Stranger > Franklins, Bird Song and Scarlet > Fire on the 6th -- and yes, Johnny B. Goode > Bid You Goodnight for Sunday's encore. And great camping.
The Rex Foundation named for Betty's husband, killed in a motorcycle accident in Marin County in 75 or 76. I read an account on RUclips and summarize: Betty stayed with the band after he died, continuing to tape. When Brent joined the band he swept her off her feet. Afer a couple years they split up and she was let go by the band, dismissed as Brents ex' although she'd been with the Grateful Dead for 13 years. Before she met Brent she put all the 12 inch reel to reels, some 1,250 in a storage locker in Marin County. Eventually IT WENT UP FOR PUBLIC AUCTION! Thakfully a Deadhead was at the auction, bought the locker, brought them to a restoration specialist and kindly started releasing them. 🙏 Ill add the original writers line. Where, oh where was Jerry in all this? Living in Rock Skully's basement, so deep in a bag of black tar, he didn't know who Betty was.
Betty was NOT given her walking papers because of her relationship with Brent, but it would not be discreet or nice or right to say, here, why she was. Also, it's open to question who swept who off whose feet. And the statement that Jerry "didn't know who Betty was" is plainly untrue -- to say no more.
@jimpowell6789 why would no one from the Dead go try to retrieve the tapes? I'm guessing the answer would be that they didn't know of their whereabouts. This seems negligent and would not surprise me. Also would make sense if she left under scandalous or tumultuous circumstances. Might she have moved them at some point after the band had known where she originally put them? Or did they just not care?
@@njnature I didn't say anything about the tapes and I don't know anything about the inside story of them. I DO KNOW what I wrote about and I do know that it wouldn't be right to talk about it here.
