In the books, Jon gives stannis a blueprint to defeat the Boltons. He tells him where to build up his army and how to out menuver the Boltons. Right now Stannis is about to siege Winter fell but the Boltons, unlike in yhe the show, refuse to leave the castle.
Well because Boltons are not foolish they know how good of a commander Stannis is plus it does not matter he will win anyway no one should deny the one true king.
They are not refusing, they just have a surplus of Freys to send out. They will use the armies of the other houses to test their loyalty, as they know the Manderly’s are not to be trusted.
The Bolton's Frey allies are going to die at the crofters village next to the frozen lake & the Manderlys will join Stannis' forces. Stannis' men will then don the armour & colours of the Freys & return to Winterfell disguised. Ramsay & Bolton men will then be taken by Stannis & other northerners to face the justice they deserve which Stan is serves so well.
It's sad, of all the kings and potential kings I thought stannis was the only worthy one. Experienced commander and seemed like a true leader. But man they ruined his character 😭

But Renly was a usurper. If anything Brienne should've helped him get to the wall. Stannis should've died in season 8 during the long night fighting as a battle commander. He deserved a redemption arc for allowing his daughter to die.

The fact that Stannis actually survived the initial battle with only slight injuries, and also managed to make it to the forest is crazy. If those 2 dudes and Brienne hadn't showed up, he might have survived even this situation. Even while intentionally fucking up his character, D&D couldn't help but make him go out like an absolute badass.
Someone brought up this in a video I was watching: For Stannis to have survived until the moment of his death, he, the general, would have had to be one of the best soldiers in his own army because most of the rest were already dead.
And they still couldn’t kill him! Wounded leaning against a tree, after defeating who knows how many soldiers in combat he sees Brienne standing over him. After a small exchange, he admits to using blood magic to assassinate his brother and submits to her judgment and says “go on then, do your duty”. Fantastic scene, and an excellent send off to a well portrayed character!
This was one of the biggest jumping the shark moments for the show. Things no longer had to make sense, so long as they achieved the story D&D wanted to tell. S6 was even worse, but this is where it truly started.
Shireen’s fate makes zero sense, the Mannis is best known for eating rats at Storms End why would he burn his beloved daughter alive to escape a little cold weather 🤦♂️
The three greatest tactians in Westeros were 1. Robb Stark (dead by this time) 2. Stannis Baratheon 3. Tywin Lannister And somehow #2 not only allowed himself to be surprised by a mild Northern winter but also decided that he would siege the greatest holdfast in the North south of the Night Fort without so much as a supply wagon for his own men.
Btw robb wasn't really a great tactian because all the credit goes to his great uncle blackfish . Due to his plan jaime was captured and riverrun was won back and the invasion of westernlands successfull

Every second he waited, the stronger the enemy grew, the more supplies Stannis would lose and the less legitemate Stannis' claim would become. He should have not landed his navy straight to the walls of the city. He should have made his landing a good distance away from the city, marched to the city and encircle it with a proper siege. THEN CAMP AND WAIT.
Stannis may not have been a good king but he definitely was a great military leader We would all rally to. He had it in him to instill courage and inspiration into his men.

Bad writing. He had a massive army that smashed Mance Ryder's army but was depicted a short time later with about a thousand soldiers. He was also a brilliant commander and would not have taken his men into a slaughter at Winterfell
Lol in the books he has a bunch of northern houses and is planning multiple espionage related battle tactics to defeat the Frey’s and Boltons outside of winterfell. He is likely going to lure the Frey army out into a frozen lake and sink them and have the Manderlys partake in slaying them as they are secret allies.

If those 2 dudes and Brienne hadn't showed up, he might have survived even this situation. Even while intentionally fucking up his character, D&D couldn't help but make him go out like an absolute badass.
Someone brought up this in a video I was watching: For Stannis to have survived until the moment of his death, he, the general, would have had to be one of the best soldiers in his own army because most of the rest were already dead.
Loved Stannis and his 0 bullshit attitude and his 0 tolerance sense of honour. They did the character so dirty.

One the best strategist in Westeros, wouldn’t know that he’s about to go into battle literally 30 seconds before.
Sure.
And they still couldn’t kill him! Wounded leaning against a tree, after defeating who knows how many soldiers in combat he sees Brienne standing over him. After a small exchange, he admits to using blood magic to assassinate his brother and submits to her judgment and says “go on then, do your duty”. Fantastic scene, and an excellent send off to a well portrayed character!
Cheapend by the fact that the writers had to assassinate his character in order to put him there in the first place

This was one of the biggest jumping the shark moments for the show. Things no longer had to make sense, so long as they achieved the story D&D wanted to tell. S6 was even worse, but this is where it truly started.

And somehow #2 not only allowed himself to be surprised by a mild Northern winter but also decided that he would siege the greatest holdfast in the North south of the Night Fort without so much as a supply wagon for his own men.
Btw robb wasn't really a great tactian because all the credit goes to his great uncle blackfish . Due to his plan jaime was captured and riverrun was won back and the invasion of westernlands successfull

He'd of been an outlaw without a claim or any noble support of he waited. Its true that ambition betrayed him into his own destruction, but he had to go after it

The crown was rightfully his as they all knew cerci’s children were not of his lineage especially after he killed his brother and took on his banner men. He should of waited until the other house wore each other down. Instead he relied on the prophesies of a witch, sacrificed his only heir and daughter for absolutely no reason as he still lost the battle. He even had the banks backing

Every second he waited, the stronger the enemy grew, the more supplies Stannis would lose and the less legitemate Stannis' claim would become. He should have not landed his navy straight to the walls of the city. He should have made his landing a good distance away from the city, marched to the city and encircle it with a proper siege. THEN CAMP AND WAIT.

That first wave charge of the cavalry envelopment absolutely devastated the footmen. At that point it wasn't even a battle but butchery. The few lucky survivors making it to the woods. Rip Mannis
Bad writing. He had a massive army that smashed Mance Ryder's army but was depicted a short time later with about a thousand soldiers. He was also a brilliant commander and would not have taken his men into a slaughter at Winterfell
Lol in the books he has a bunch of northern houses and is planning multiple espionage related battle tactics to defeat the Frey’s and Boltons outside of winterfell. He is likely going to lure the Frey army out into a frozen lake and sink them and have the Manderlys partake in slaying them as they are secret allies.
