    Prior to 2018, the factory SRT 392s came with larger wheels and better brakes than the Scat packs. Scats had the option to upgrade to this spec with the dynamics package, but most people didn't for cost reasons.

    • @quicktoreason2722
      @quicktoreason2722 10 дней назад +22

      better brakes is not going to make it less of a boat. its heavy and even when upgraded has very terrible suspension geometry limitations - its simply a car made to go in a straight line. period. As for american cars that are good on a track you got the Camaro, corvette, viper etc. - nothing else really comes close - the gtd mustang is cool too -

    • @KyleTipton.
      @KyleTipton. 10 дней назад +18

      @quicktoreason2722 oh I agree, and they don't even straight line great, I own one 😂. I just meant they can handle more abuse at the track from what I've seen goofing around at the local track with mine

      @@KyleTipton. sure, i mean if people find it fun to drive this type of car then there's nothing wrong, its personal preference anyway - im just stating some of its mechanical issues related to optimization - Unrelated but hopefully will give some context on why some folks hate these cars is because as an american, over the past 2-3 years, dodge owners have genuinely turned into the second coming of the tesla elitist group - they on average cause the most ruckus in any car related event and are extremely toxic as a group, they also are filled with people that make it a point to drive crazy through traffic and cause many accidents and even deaths - (you see a lot of youtube videos of them cutting through traffic but you wont find the news post of them crashing haha but sadly tons of them do crash.) they also have a reputation of running from the police so just the overal vibe of the owners of this car has been negative - not saying thats who you are - this is probably why you will see more "hate" towards this car- i personally like it, but as someone that prefers track oriented time attack cars, ive genuinely struggled to find any reason to justify owning one. I drove the camaro zl1 last year during a time attack event, and even from stock, that thing was blowing past well optimized time attack cars. it is such a good overall package as a car.

    Even when the e39 m5 first came out, the car publishers who tested it on the track said that the car was thrown off the track on 4 wheels in the corners and the tires were making painful noises. The weight of the M5 with a 5-liter engine volume was 1800 kg. This vehicle is 6.4 liters and around 2050 kg.
    It is natural for it to resist turning the corners. Misha was not very happy, but I think it is not bad when its general balance is considered and compared to its weight. Nurburring is not a normal track, it is like a torture session for such vehicles. It should resist the vehicles it hunts on the straights in order not to be defeated again in the corners :) The fact that it could not exceed 6:10 207 shows that the car is still struggling with high weight despite its 6.4-liter engine volume.

    • @meatybtz
      @meatybtz 10 дней назад +6

      Perhaps. But it needed more tire and suspension. I have a large, heavy, car that has a reasonable amount of power. But because of undercarriage design I am limited on the maximum width of tires I can put under it. I've done quite a bit of suspension improvement and because of the general mass and limitation on upper end of tire size I still can't enter the corner as well as I would like, but I can exit the corner like a rocket. The american style V8 car with a reasonable amount of power and good suspension and tire should be slower on entry and fast on exit because of the very strong acceleration curves provided by the engine. For the record I drive an 06 GTO with an LS2, that would be a Holden Monaro. In general, even with a lot of work my car still can't do auto-x like a much lighter and tighter car could. However, I could drive then entire 'ring looking out my side windows. Drifting son, the car likes to drift and can drift till your tiers fail without any effort. Still, the Dodge offerings are fat and wallowy beasts, always have been.
      Edit for rewatching,

      Was this a good lap time compared to a M3 or M5 ? I know muscle cars have a lot of HP but are basically great in straight lines, still looked pretty fast tho but I’m not an expert lol

    • @nosecondprize1083
      @nosecondprize1083 10 дней назад

      @ You can destroy a current M5 with a rear-wheel drive setup with the Camaro ZL1 vs GT500. Yours is an old generalization.

    • @meatybtz
      @meatybtz 10 дней назад +3

      @ Both of those are much better cars, overall, than the Charger, which does suffer from it's weight and suspension limitations. I'd add a Corvette and in general, Mustangs (once upgraded) to the list as well. The Challenger and Charger are overweight and just don't corner well, even with upgraded tires and suspension. Camaros are quite nimble for an American V8 car.

      I'm guessing the supercharged ones suffer from overheating because of the extra power and heat. 702HP vs 420-500 for the 392s NA. My RAM TRX (which is supercharged) gets hot when I'm towing our heavy travel trailer on big hills for prolonged periods of time. Whereas my old Power Wagon which was the naturally aspirated 6.4 HEMI similar to the one in this car, never had any overheating issues when towing anywhere. The 392 HEMI is tuned for short burst of speed by SRT and the BGE 6.4 HEMI in RAM Power Wagon was more tuned for prolonged towing so cooling was no issue.

  • @TumTuned
    @TumTuned 10 дней назад +23

    A lot of people forget (or don't realize) that the Charger/Challenger/300/Magnum platform is based on the old Mercedes-Benz W211 E-series platform, with a few W220 S-series suspension bits thrown in for good measure (and the engines were partly designed by M-B). The suspension of the S-series was fairly bulky, made to handle a fair amount of power while remaining stable in a straight line. It was made primarily for comfort and stability, not handling. The Chrysler LX platform is even bigger/heavier than the W211 platform it's based on, so it struggles with the extra heft, regardless of what spring/struts or tires you put under it. There's a reason why they started offering factory fender flare options, along with wider wheel/tire combos for these cars... when a car weighs 4400 lbs, with a big lump of V8 hanging over the front, it needs all the grip it can get to make it around a tight corner.
    I'd be curious to see how much better a base model could possibly handle a track, like this... I never see modified V6 models, yet they SHOULD be able to handle better due to the severely reduced weight (depending on year/trim, they weigh 200-500 lbs less).

    • @S8ER
      @S8ER 10 дней назад +5

      While the v6 cars are lighter they also have different suspension and handle worse. I had one for 3 years as a commuter and it was slow, sounded awful and handed poorly. Thankfully it was cheap and reliable.
