- F82R 'Numantia' sailing off against H16 'Sledder II' on Moreton Bay - departing Wynnum/Manly harbour to Peel Island and back.
Typical south east Qld Westerly winds - Recorded forecast @ Banana Banks 17-24 kts - max gusts 33kts.
looks like both crews are having a blast - on the upside you could have a cold beer and a sammich, whilst they can only have salt spray
I enjoyed watching this video so much I had to comment twice. You guys look like you are having so much fun. I really miss sailing. thanks for the awesome video
Really glad you enjoyed it - things are alittle quiet on the sailing front atm but i'm looking forward to sharing some new adventures soon!!!!
It's like a magic carpet ride vs a roller coaster...love it!
Glad you enjoyed it and great analogy!!!!!
Having owned and sailed a Farrier F25C I can appreciate the fun factor afforded by sailing a multihull. This video is stellar and is a keeper. Keep up the good film work. Cheers cap10ed
I'm really liking this Farrier. Looks like a great camping rig.
Great video! I had a smile on my face the whole time! Thank you!
Awesome video. Looks like a lot of fun. I miss my hobie 16.
Very Cool!! Thank you for this nice video! It was pleasure to see this!
PELAGEOS thanks so much for your positive comment.
too much fun......he can sail but don't tell him his heads big enough....;)
Great vid guys looks like fun
Hobie sailing back in the day 😀😀😀😀😀
I had to check if the video was set for double speed!
Thanks for vid. Miss my hobie sofa king fast
Great Vid, Not sure why the title, Looks like everyone is having great time. It does seem to show you that the H-16 is faster than your tri on that particular day. Captain Red
No dummies there! Looks like a blast!
It was an awesome day, cheers!!!
I recognised the ramp at the beginning, didn't realise any locals were posting to youtube 👍🏼
Hi Dave, we sail all over SEQ but the Manly Harbour ramp is used by James with his F82R as he's a member of the club there. If you enjoy our bay, multihulls or sailing videos be sure to check out my library.
@@4021800 I just subscribed 👍🏼I currently sail a Hobie Tandem Island, it's no where near as fast as either boat in this video, but still fun.
Dave If you checkout my earlier videos like ‘H16 Ripping it up around OldWoman Island’ you’ll see my SEQHS group sailed a lot with the SEQ HOBIE Island Club but they don’t seem to organise sailing in groups anymore unfortunately
Looks like fun gents
nice hat like it, can you sail it alone comfortly?
This particular F82R isn't really a solo boat but you can certainly spend $$$ and set one up for solo'ing in the right weather
Amazing sail, the double joy of being able to see you in the Horseshoe Bay during this weekend (I was also on a tri). What's the top speed you've got on this run?
Anatoly 18kts was our top speed. We were using binoculars to checkout a tri huddled into the western end, was that you? What type of tri is that?
@@4021800 Impressive, was a real pleasure seeing your sail! Yes, it was me on Malcolm Tennant's Wild Thing design.
@@AnatolyKernvery nice - is that the red one? WildThing looks soo fast!!! You should race it in Bay2Bay/Surf2City if your a SEQ local
@@4021800 Yes, it is the one that was red some time ago. Thanks, will check them out, will be around the area for a while.
Good clean FUN!
Both such fun
Looks like a good day out, nice video.
Thanks Owen, you really know your living when you have to limp a return double reefed and no jib
Makes the decision to broad reach with the full main and jib seem a little silly in retrospect ;0 Bloody fun though!
I would be making a coffee and laughing at the hobie.
I’m buying this boat!
Sledder is really starting to be famous. SEQ hobie sailing for the win.
Never mind Matt, just realised who you were, which also explained why sledder was there. Congrats on the upgrade. I have a farrier myself now, not as fast as the hobie but more comfy.
scott lampe Hey Scott, yes your trailer tramp would give lots more room than the Hobie, even more than my Pulse. You should join us in next years Bay 2 Bay race, plenty of other small cats/tris in our division I.e Ostac tramps, Windrush 600 etc
Did you keep the Hobie or sell?
@@4021800 it died from delamination. I had fixed it baout a half dozen times but it just got too bad in the end. From the tip to the rear pylon on the sides and deck of the right hull. Got a Haines hunter tramp trimaran which takes about the same amount of time to get into the water. More comfortable but not as fast.
Next time you blokes do a Whitsunday trip I would love to tag along. The tramp will fit wherever a beach at can go.
scott lampe we are doing the Keppels in October if your interested
Sick! Would love a Farrier but nowhere to keep it so I have to stick with the Hobie. Whats the cabin like?
The F82R is not my boat so i'm really not well equipped to comment on it
What’s so dumb?
Looks like amazing sailing
You drop the jib going to windard ?
The last part was on our return sailing upwind. Lets just say, conditions and winds had really picked up by then, main was double reefed and jib down to get back in one piece.
Matt O'Brien was curious .. the video doesn’t always capture the conditions the way they are in real life. 👍
@@4021800 If you were double reefed with no head sail, what was the Hobie cat doing?
@@garysouza2277 by this stage the Hobie had long bugged out and headed for shelter in a nearby bay
Why is it dumb? He’s having fun at a fraction of the cost.
Its dumb because of the conditions on the day. Most people will never sail during a westerly wind on the east coast of Australia as the gusts are typically 50-75% greater than wind.
@@4021800 yeah I gotta give the Hobie guys props. They knew how to sail that boat..
@@garysouza2277 absolutely!
How fast were you going?
He posted 18 kts. My best is 19 kt. But others in the Galveston Bay Area, with larger trained crews, have done 24/25. Coarair suggests not topping 32 kts in an F28R, and I agree, its a wild ride at those speeds.
what I don't understand is why nobody else was out. Here in Europe if you know what you are doing we go out till 8 Bft and you had from what it looks like only 4-5 Bft. Strange.
werekorden here on the East Coast of Brisbane, Australia we get Westerly winds during our Winter (June/July/August) Westerly winds are extremely inconsistent and packed with very high wind gusts which make sailing only for the faint hearted. The westerly gusts are typically double that seem during the rest of the year. Example: Forcast is for 15-20kts with Westerly gusts 25-30kts.
Matt O'Brien ok, and I don‘t have the problem of stability with my monohull than you have with your multihull. Did you had a in a reef?
werekorden at the start of the video - full main and large jib. On them return leg at the end of the video the main is reefed. I would take the stability of a multihull any day over a leaning monohull
@@4021800 :-D Haha yeah that's the reason why I do windsurfing and monohull sailing. Hope the new technique will soon be available for everyone at a low price
Is Farrier 31 and Corsair 31 the same thing?
Corsair 31 is Corsair's version of the Farrier 31.
ps . the are all right for fun...
Farrier need som new sails to wun -...
Except for moving your head so much ( watching the head mount made me motion sick ) stick with a fixed post cam .. the shots are always better ..
That old 1970's design Hobie 16 walked all over you. I thought Farriers were faster than that. He was faster on all points of sail.
haha you cant even compare a H16 to a farrier
