- First time sailing my new Hobie Tandem Island kayak.
Its not my first time sailing one though as I used to own one around 5 years ago.
I trolled lures and bait and had some dolphins come check me out, but no fish.
I'm really looking forward to doing some longer fishing trips and even some overnight camping adventures on it!
Impressive 🙂
Brilliantly done.
Neat boat! :) Thanks for sharing
Absolutely beautiful. Gorgeous Island. Great Video. Hi How are you from the Caribbean Island of Trinidad. I enjoy watching you sail . I love the sea and sailing and fishing and exploring.
Very gracefull landing there Mr.
Now THATS a maiden voyage. Great 👍 camera angles mate! Loved the underwater dolphin shots.
OMG you had me worried when you got stuck in the surf. That's one of the most dangerous situations for a sailboat.
Nice job getting it set up and taken down - without a list, yet. I would have to have a list to remember everything first time out. Well done!
I pick up my AA this week. I cant wait for my maiden voyage. Thanks for the vid. +1 on the subscriber list
Wow that looks like fun. Beautiful video, thank you from New Jersey USA.
Thanks for watching!
Great video! Best I've seen yet of sailing one of these. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Super, Nice ride and video. Have fun.
Thanks Orlando!
Loved the video, thanks for your time to put it together! Really nice TI, 🌎 best therapy!!
Thanks for your kind comment! I am looking forward to making more videos sailing the TI. Just waiting for the swell to drop here so that I can safely get it out to sea!
. Awesome video, thank you so much! It really shows what to expect from the experience 😊. I've wanted one of these FOR 10yrs, ever since an elderly lady I just met at the beach one day let me try out her single Hobie Kayak with Mirage pedals & sail.. It was soooo simple, first go... And when I got home I launched straight in to some research & learned there's a tandem model! And I've coveted one ever since. But even the smallest single model is out of my price range. Maybe I should start looking for a very second hand one.. I'm determined to get one eventually - it doesn't have to be pretty!
Thanks for the inspiration ❤
Wow! Im sold..
Im a sailor and a paddler. Your video showed all sides of the hobie island tandem I wanted to see.
Thanks
No worries Ron, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I love my Hobie TI
What a beast!
Awesome footage!
Cheers Teo! They are so much fun!
Well done for the maiden voyage of your Hobie TI. Keep the videos coming...be careful in the surf line!
Cheers James! Getting through the surf is biggest problem with the Hobie on the Gold Coast. I've got some trips to other locations like South West Rocks, 1770, Whitsundays.. Which that are more suitable so I'm looking forward to that!
Great video! I had one myself and loved sailing it. Nice location too. I sailed in Brisbane Aus. Thanks for sharing this cool experience. Oh, I felt like Kevin Costner too :-)
Absolutely brilliant footage mate! I love my Tandem Island too! It's so much fun! Thanks for sharing! Cheers!
Thanks for watching! I enjoy sharing the experience and inspiring others to get out and have fun on the water.. the TI is an awesome craft. I'm taking it on my first camping trip tomorrow so watch out for that video in the near future 👍👍
@@hooked_on_adventure You're most welcome! Good on you! I have subbed so look forward to watching your next video! Cheers!
Great video!!..liked your instructions on using the sail. I'm a beginner and haven't taken my island out yet but will refer to your video...thanks
Thanks! Its so much fun! If you have a tandem island, tie the main sheet and furling line together at the ends. That way you will always have them both handy..
Nice vid to watch mate! Considering getting one when I move home...looks super fun!!!
Thanks Billy, you should hey. They are so much fun! The only problem is getting through the surf.
Time flys. Enjoy it while your young. I did!
Looks awesome mate - well done!!
Thanks Brad! Its so much fun 😁
Nice set up man 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Cheers! They are a great setup. Looking forward to sharing some more videos.. hopefully involving catching some big fish off of it!
Love it
Hoping to get one soon!
Gotta mount the sounder high like your rod mounts.
Can’t wait to see some hoo blood on that thing in summer!!!!
Its going to be hectic!
Hobie Tandem Islands are awesome machines. I don't suspect I'll ever get rid of mine. Just sold my Hobie 16 and Hobie Getaway because I get so much enjoyment out of my TI.
Im having so much fun on it! Ive taken it out to sea 3 times now and love it. Planning on doing some overnight camping trips to some local islands soon 😁⛵
@@hooked_on_adventure I had mine out yesterday evening testing my new seats. I have an old 2011 Ti so it needed an upgrade on the seats.
Hello. I am trying to decide between a TI or a Getaway for my next boat. Sailing has always been much more my thing than kayaking. I would be glad if you could share your feedback regarding what made you shift from "pure sailboats" to "hybrids". Thank you in advance.
@@stephanegavignet1592 Hello. I love both sailing and kayaking. Both machines are in my opinion GREAT for what they are designed for. The Hobie Getaway was a bit much for me to set up by myself every time I wanted to sail it, but I tell you it's a great catamaran that you can even camp on and it sets high out of the water. It's a blast with family, unfortunately my family has no interest in sailing. If you love sailing and you have a partner, go get the Hobie Getaway. Now the Hobie TI is both a kayak and a sailing vessel it does neither great as just a kayak or just a sail boat. It's too big for just a kayak and it sails poorly in high winds. BUT, if you like some thing that is pretty easy to set up, trailer, and slides effortlessly across the water at a moderate speed in winds from 6 - 18 mph, the TI is the way to go. I've had as many as four on my TI and I've sailed as far as 12 miles offshore in search for King Mackerel with a friend. The outriggers come off and if you have a partner it works fine as a kayak, a bit big for one person. I've had it up to 9 mph before and it sails great in moderate winds. Scroll through some of my videos and you can see the different ways I've used the TI and the different aftermarket projects I have added to make a more enjoyable experience. Hope this helped. Contact me anytime if you have questions. I've own many small sailboats and kayaks.
@@mathewdavis-adventuresandd6643 Thanks for your quick answer. Really tough choice for me. On the one hand the TI seems to be the most versatile, but on the other hand I fear I could miss the thrill of sailing downwind around 11-12 knots like I do with my old Hobie Twixxy.... which souldn't be an issue as I am not planning to sell it anyway. My family - except for my oldest son - is not into sailing, though they enjoy a ride from time to time. My youngest son (10 yo) is crazy about fishing and has been watching many videos involving TIs and fishing. Something bothering me is your saying that the TI sails poorly in high winds : I live in Tahiti, and tradewinds between 15-20 knots are common. Easier storage and handling are also big pros for the TI.
Nice work mate. I've just subbed you. It's great to see some good TI footage. I also has a TI , an AI and an Outback just can't use them all at once...😂
Cheers Roger! There will be some more vids coming over Summer 😁
@@hooked_on_adventure Looking forward to watching, cheers
Awesome video. I have a TA also and my wife loves it, even with her kayakfobia. What's the location?
Thanks! I live on the Gold Coast Queensland, Australia 😁
Bro this is some beautiful water! Florida?
That looks like so much fun .was that Currumbin on the goldy. Im down in byron and we’re looking at getting the tandem . Where did you get yours from .
great video. I have an '18 TI. My wife and I go out in conditions that no other boat risks. (of course appropriately furled). My question is how you control the furling line from the rear seat when sailing solo. Extending the fuling line is not an issue, but i wonder if you have installed an additional fairlead cleat, and if so do you run the furling line directly from the mast to it?
Cheers!
On this day, I found it hard to lock in the furling line because of the box I had sitting in the front seat. But I have since installed a deck there (see my more recent videos) and by having that space clear, I dont have a problem locking it in and having the sail half furled.
Saying that though, it would be awesome to have a cleat for the furling line on the back seat. To do that, you would have to replace the furling line with a longer rope. But it would be super handy.
Wonderful...
Same problem with my garmin but I lost mine in the water. Now I made a tiendown
Thank you!
Awesome vid! What pole mount are you using for that high angle camera shot from the stern?
Thanks! Its just a 2m long length of 40mm plumbing pipe with a go pro mounted at the top 😁
@@hooked_on_adventure How are you attaching the pipe to the boat? I've got a long piece of carbon fiber paddle shaft from a broken paddle I'm trying to figure out a mounting solution for.
@@jgeiger23 the 40mm pipe fits almost perfectly into the rod holder. I just wrapped some gorilla tape around it to make it an even more snug fit.
Great vid buddy, looks like fun 🤙
Aquí en costarica le decimos a personas como usted ¡esta solo.!
Where can i get one! How do you steer it mate?
What are the “trampolines” for or their intended uses?
Poor. Boy with this sick father.... !
I'm thinking of getting one to sail and fish around mortan Bay Islands. But can't find the price of these on the website. Do you know how much these go for new? Also where did you get the trailer for it?
It would be perfect for Morton Bay.
I struggle getting out here on the Gold Coast when the swell is up as beach launches are dangerous and the bar crossings can be sketchy aswell..
My TI (Tandem Island) is a 2016 model. I bought it with the trailer and beach wheels for $6500.
New they are around the $10k mark without a trailer.
Keep an eye on Gumtree and FB marketplace. They come up now and then!
@@hooked_on_adventure What a steal! Here in the U.S. they barely lose value and are hard to find used at all..
If I am not a fisherman and none of my family or friends want to go with me on the kayak, would I be better of with the single seat AI?
Hi Bryan, yes you would be better off with an AI. They are lighter and much easier to handle on land. On the water, the TI (Tandem island) is easily sailed by one person and has more room for any gear you might want to bring. But its a beast to get onto a beach cart and drag up the beach by yourself.
Saying that though, I love my TI!
@@hooked_on_adventure thank you.
nice
Now that's downright cheating mate! Every hoo on Palmy will pick you. 😂
Janos, I can't wait for summer!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
What resolution do you get on your drone mate what it cost you ? I just picked up DJI Mavic Air 2
Its supposed to be 4k. But im really not happy with it... the most annoying thing with it is that the camera isn't on a gimble. So when you fly anywhere, the camera doesn't stay pointing at the same spot. I think I will eventually get a DJI drone, but will be really afraid of getting it too close to the drink!
U could had fun with them dolphins, swimming with them.
Yeah I've done that before! They are amazing creatures
Sounder?
It's a Garmin Striker 4. Great unit. Has GPS and sounder.
I'll look it up thanks. Great video!
@@Kenwood.. thanks mate!
Do U Evan Kno where U going dud or U just sailing where evar wind gos lol?
Yeah I went south to a fishing mark that I have and then was heading further out to another spot, but then decided to turn back as the wind was picking up.
This trip was more of a sea trial rather than a serious fishing expedition.
@@tmsan5951 Now, now...
In the minute 7:32 there are two dolphins jumping out!
yep! I often see dolphins!
Currumbin?
Yep!
watch your lure doesn't get caught in your sail rope
Yeah thats happened already! Luckily not while I was on the water...
a good habit to get into is using only one lane of a 2 lane boat ramp
Thanks Gary.
@@hooked_on_adventure there's never a shortage of snark. I'm sure you would have moved over if there had been anyone else wanting to use it.
Hey your video $ 5000 cost☝️
Excellent video. I had one of these and loved sailing it. Great location too where you sailed. I sailed in Brisbane Aus. Thanks for sharing this video. Oh, I felt like Kevin Costner too :-)
