- On Feb. 28, 1993, federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents tried to arrest sect leader David Koresh for stockpiling illegal weapons at the Branch Davidians’ Mount Carmel compound in the community of Elk, about 15 miles outside of Waco. This never should have happened. It was a situation that desperately needed a thing called “good police work.” Koresh was a nut bag but federal law enforcement intentionally took this to another level. It was a deliberate show of force and the American people were the intended audience. They could’ve quietly ended this but someone decided there needed to be a show.

The ATF was not responsible for the fire that killed tha majority of the Branch Dravidian’s, it was the FBI. After the initial raid attempt the FBI HRT took over and after the failure of negotiations, they placed gas in the compound to try and force them out. It was either that or the branch Dravidian’s themselves that started the fire.

you do realize that (within reason) risk is manditory in those situations, the FBI's actions (no matter how unreasonable they seem now) were warranted, the guy in charage that said to use tear gas, made a call as his employmet required. was there a better option? probably, but they worked with what the had, and knew.

David asked for 14 more days to finish his scripture and then he would surrender instead the FBI gave him just 2 days and then started to deploy CS gas into the compound. There where also two 40mm pyrotechnic Grenade shells both of which where found near where the fires started. @@prussiancountryhuman

Re-watching the Paramount series for third time because the new one is coming out, I never realized how much attention to detail they used recreating this part. The camera angle, the weapons, even the go-karts parked outside.
Question: Why did that clown throw a flashbang into the window that his buddies just climbed into?
Because they were entering the gun room, so they said. The flashbang creates smoke that makes it difficult to see and gave them a small advantage for a few minutes.

For those who haven't seen the un-cut footage. @ 2:00 the first man on the right ladder shoots himself in the leg as he is un-holstering his weapon. He is immediately removed from the ladder so the others can continue.
After the first group enters through the window from the roof, a short time later a lone officer panic fires thru the same window. The team returns fire and the bullets can be seen penetrating thru the walls at the lone officer..
Lot of lessons learned here
I remember this well. ATF spewing bullets and not being CV concerned with what they hit. The ATF should not have weapons. They need to be relegated to "desk puke" status where they belong. Let local law enforcement deal with the issue. Let local law enforcement decide the legalities.

Where's the video clip of the flame thrower tank busting through the wall of the house... and the video clip of the tank that rolls up over the emergency escape hatch for the under ground storm shelter where those kids might have been, AFTER an ATF agent tossed a grenade down in it?
There isn’t, though the gas tanks did fill the compound with cs gas and rubble from them ended up blocking said bunker, when the feds fired 40mm rounds at the place it lit up. Causing the fire, this and the fact that CS gas reacts badly with fire/smoke resulted in the suffocation and death of said children.

One thing that occurred to me after watching the new documentary - if the Davidians were really out for blood they could have continued to engage the feds until they were out of range. It would have been easy-peasy to make shots at 3-400 yards as they retreated. Also the feds were holding their hands in the air as they carried away their dead. That is not surrender and in combat you will still be shot. If you showed up at my house, killed my dogs and my family, then tried to call “time out” to walk away and regroup - I would not be so kind.

The Davidians definitely took it 'easy' on them, they were armed with powerful rifles such AK's, M16's and even 50 cal. The ATF were most armed with 9mm pistols and MP5s and a handful of M16s. It could've been a turkey shoot if they wanted.

The county sheriff asked that exact question. He said Koresh came to town every Tuesday and the ATF could have arrested him then and escorted him back to the compound to serve the warrant competently.
