I would love to see a 'behind the scenes' of this game's development. The graphics, the long creative levels, solid controls, the fearsome giant bosses, the fact that this game has close to 50 tracks that offer some of those most metal 16-bit music ever heard on a home console. There was such much damn passion and care given to this game, it brightly shows. Lightening Force / Thunder Force IV..., truly the best shmup on the Genesis and 1 of the GREATEST SHMUPS of all time.
Pretty impressive. The game gets even harder with all the weapons equiped, specially peaks if you have Hunter and Blade. Enemies and bosses shoot more bullets. For example Formalhaut shoots an additional barrage of bullets at its first phase (Hate it) and also at its last. Also depending if you have any extra weapon, on Stage 2 (colony) when you start you fight an additional sub boss. This kind of changes make the game so interesting but also harder, that's why I love it and still my fav shmup ever.
@@neuronoc.7343I think the first boss is the only one in the game that have trouble hit boxes if you get blade cuz you definitely want to use two shot unless you use freeway (which btw it’s hidden in the bottom of the screen before the 1up shows up) even then it’s still pretty slow
I’m aware of the ports, I’m talking about the original game that came out in 93. Seeing that game run on a Genesis was quite the experience back then when I was a teenager.
Sums up why my father actually preferred shoot 'em ups over RPGs considering the latter is not really his cup of tea in general. He has said something about leveling up real world skills instead of in-game characters.
14:07 The way this boss deteriorates reminds me of how Abadon in Salamander 2 deteriorates. 16:53 The music and boss’s shape remind me of the Star Blaze duology’s other boss theme and Star Blaze II’s Lava Worm fight, respectively.
Christmas came early, 'cause Serg kicked a shmup's ass! Observations: What kind of name is "Ratt Carry" for a spaceship to have, anyway!? This might sound odd, but one of my favorite aspects of shmups is the vast, detailed backgrounds; cities, countries, whole continents of techno-organics as far as the eye can see. Do the mini-bosses prior to the Evil Core have names? You included them but they don't have time stamps. I LOVE the little fat guy inside the core goddamn. Giger does The Penguin. He's weirdly cute and seems to be just minding his own business, spinning like that. Who are you to judge his choices!? Oh God, the final boss is the great-great-etc-etc grandson of the horrible nigh-impossible crab boss from Order of Ecclesia! Run away! Emperor Gava from Contra is probably a relative too.
Which Thunder Force is the one with the final boss that is a giant eye with veins. Used to play it alot in a laundry back in 95' place that had the arcade till they took it off. If you know and can help out. Thanks
While this game's soundtrack is in my top 3 for the Sega Genesis, it's not even in my top 10 for the soundchip, itself! The Megadrive hardware uses a crippled revision of the YM2608, the YM2612, which has a number of powerful features removed. The cost-cutting is why the Megadrive has distorted notes, while the PC98 does not.
As for Thunder Force VI, it's actually Faust becoming Vasteel Nocht, which mimicked Fire LEO Styx, Rynex and RVR 01 Gauntlet. Yes, the same Faust here from IV.
a challenge run. just clearing it with base twin shot/back shot with no other weapons (of course barring the mid-season upgrade with the thunder blade)

@Htet Aung Nyan teleportation maybe or cloning. I think they keep the gargoyle DNA and grow it on the battleship until it matures.
I liked ENDING BGM.
Stage 2 was Zone Zeta Gravity Zero from G Darius

Well said, pure passion. To this day my favorite SHMUP. The magic is still there.
@@SNKBossSyndrom loved this game faust has the best music out of the bosses but spookiest music has to b evil core

So THAT'S why the gargoyle boss takes forever to kill unless it takes out one of my lives! Interesting, it actually is the game making things more BS.

Despite being only 8 megs in size, this is still one of the best looking & playing games on the Genesis.
It was a 16 meg game compressed on an 8 meg ROM, that's why it looks so good.
@@danmakuman Oh so it's like Star Ocean & Tales Of Phantasia in that sense?
@@Nathan-rb3qp Kind of. No need for additional hardware here tho.
Greatest shump on the Genesis, music, graphics, length, challenge it nails it all. The only downside is the slowdown.
TFIV is a reason many have overclocked their Mega Drives, removes most of the slowdown.
Overclock the console and that's it. Or play the Saturn or switch ports, no slowdown.
I’m aware of the ports, I’m talking about the original game that came out in 93. Seeing that game run on a Genesis was quite the experience back then when I was a teenager.
When it comes to Manic mode you'd actually want to have that slowdown to help you survive.
Nah... greatest shmup of all time.

This game has wonderful musics and graphics!
I like how the bad guys added legs to the last boss in case it got the thrusters destroyed.
Love this game, good job man
Darn, this game had great soundtracks.
Man of culture, this is supposed to be a boss only vid, but you keep the full stage 8 just for the best BGM Metal Squad
That was also for st. 8's midbosses, mind.
@Shadowserg the "giant ship" is called "Cerberus II", according to the Thunder Force Wiki.
Shoot'em up games are not my favourites, but this game is a exception, I really played this much during my childhood.
Not gonna lie. When I saw the boss name "VERSUS", I thought you would fight a doppelganger.
Blame the guys who mistranslated the game.
@@byonemesisBelsus?
Best Shoot Em Up game all time.
Never realized the giant ship gets destroyed by versus...huh.😮 loved all the thunder force games for genesis.
I love how Fomalhaut is just straight up a Neue Ziel from Gundam

Incredible music.
Hard for me to normally get into SHMUPS but this one is awesome.
The fact that a giant final boss's backup means of movement was tiny robotic feet amuses me for some reason.

the Parallax scrolling in the thunder force games is insanely good
The game that introduce me to METAL music, LOVE IT!!! Good job in the game play bro, so dope!!!
Bom trabalho, deve ter se esforçado muito. Meus parabéns.
This game is extremely difficult. Mad skills.
best ost game ever !!!
Io dico solo una cosa:Bravissimo!!
Congratulation !
If you haven't already you should check out the Saturn port of this game. Exact same graphics and music, but ZERO slowdown.
There's a saturn port? Damn. Need to check it out.
Shame they didn't enhance the music. CDs were a hell of a drug back then!

Thunder Force 3? That's the only one that was released in arcades from what I remember.
That would be the orn emperor in thunder force 6
That must another game. Either Pulstar due to many bosses having a big eye, or maybe Gradius?

Cool👍👍👍👍!!!
always sucked at how easy Faust was compared to the rest of the game, with all the hype, and the amazing size and music.
Minuto 19, se ve claramente que tocas suelo y no mueres, también un láser azul te impacta y la nave parpadea sin que mueras
5:38 for a sec I thought that was the Power Rangers theme
What about a Thunder Force VI bosses no damage.
Stage 2 was G Darius Zone Zeta
Formalhaut was look like Alpha Azieru from Gundam CCA
All Genesis 2012 from PSP
Y no REMAKE ???

¡Qué aburridísimamente pesadas y largas son las batallas contra los jefes cuando no tenés el arma completamente mejorada!

a challenge run. just clearing it with base twin shot/back shot with no other weapons (of course barring the mid-season upgrade with the thunder blade)

For Gargolyle Diver it's actually easier with Twin Shot since you can't really hit the core with the Blade powerup.
