The amount of working class kids who give up on school or are lost & face prison in Britain's Cities is huge. The British Armed Forces provide Europe's biggest literacy programme outside the European school system. Yet they produce fantastic Soldiers, the obsession with Special Forces ignores the fact that your 'basic' bottom line infantry in the UK is a tier or two above their contemporaries in NATO and the World at large. Do crap at school, arrested 6 times between 14-16? The British Army will sort you out, man for man the best Army on Earth.

you'd be surprised how boring some found School in UK.I was good at sport and on the Cross Country Running Team, plus 800 metre relay, and the only subject in a Classroom i take an interest in was Geography. That was funny experience,i only found out was good at running because i'd run out of School to escape,and one day the Head Teacher got some guys from the running team to chase me down,but they couldn't catch me,one by one i seen them give up and i still kept going,i got chased by a police officer through a park and couldn't get me ,i jumped the wall into the Cemetery and hide.Then the Head Teacher brought me into his office and gave me some direction,instead of punishing me he put me on the running team.He was amazed he said i had two of my best runners out the four guys and they didn't catch you. hahahaha. 🤣👍
This was all during the 1980'S i was growing up, Most people didn't know the SAS.My Dad brother was in but even i didn't know what it was, he'd just mention it sometimes.When i seen the siege in London on TV remember seeing Embassy Siege.After i started to ask my Dad more questions about his brother.That started the snow ball rolling for me,what lead up to school and stuff,i'd put myself out in survival camps,Scouts younger because was too young for Cadets.
Well said. Whilst many are fascinated and revere the UKSF and Tier Two equivalents such as the Parachute Regiment and Royal Marines, the 'ordinary' infantry regiments and support units are all top class outfits.
This guy was one of the DS on my Jungle Warfare course in 2003 - Absolute quality as you’d expect. 2 badged blokes on the JW Wing back then and both top blokes 👌🏻🍺

Mortar team is usually 3, no1 on C2 sight, no2 fires, 3 preps and passes mortar rounds….also GPMG gunner for protection if need be.

Great interview guys and Simon. As a 26 year brit mil veteran I have the greatest respect for guys like Simon. I spent some time with two guys from 22 on a course and they had me convinced it was where I should go, lol, never had enough faith in my own abilities to dare. We don't get second chances sadly, bt if I could turn back the clock. Respect guys, always a little further.
When I was an RM recruit on a joint Final Ex with the Young Officer batch, We had an SB Stripey working with us. Me, one of the Young Officers and the SB operator, inserted into an OP to gain intel for the final assault on the ex. Learned more in them 48 hours talking to him than I ever thought possible. Serious operators, switched on in every possible way as you’d expect. And as a NOD finishing bootneck training doing that I thought I was the bollocks 😂 also the Young Officer fell asleep and got thrashed to within an inch of his life by when we got extracted back to HMS Albion to prep for the assault….bad drills in front of a Tier 1 bloke. My oppo has been badged for 11 years now and how he explains it is like forgetting what you knew before and learning a whole new skill set from the ground up….especially skills like CQC, green army version nothing like what these Jedi’s do. Top blokes 👌🏻
This bloke is an absolute ninja on the ground, he took me on my JWICS course. A rare font of knowledge many of which I carry on today
Typical Regiment operator. Switched on and very intelligent bloke. Mark one eyeball and attention to detail at its best. Great podcast.
Interesting that he’s a poacher as his local regiment is the royal Anglian regiment and its nickname for the 2nd battalion which recruits from that area is called the poachers the 1st battalion which recruits slightly south of there is called the vikings as east anglia was originally a Vikings settlement
They should be called the fall asleep on stag battalion when they fell asleep on the terrorists that murdered our recruits on the way to their first time out from depo ,

What a guest! Simon Leak must have one of the most impressive, weightiest military CV's ever. An extraordinarily gifted and accomplished person. Thoroughly well interviewed. Just as I'm cutting back on channels I subscribed on back of this.
Sir Ranulph Fiennes was SAS and got kicked out for blowing up a film set in Ireland and when doing a polar exploration he got frost bite in a number of fingers and against his Doctors advisement took out his saw n cut the ends off ..
I did it in 1987. Failed 4 days before the end of the Jungle Phase.
No shame there. You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take….better to fall short giving it 💯….and I’m sure getting that far you learned a hell of a lot about yourself. Did you pull yourself out the trees?

If you search on here for h hour episode 176 Simon leak did a podcast with them 2 years ago and he did one with Phil Campion about 8 months ago , search The debrief force radio.
We've been reading about them for roughly the same amount of time Steve.I was loaned a copy of soldier I in around 92 I think.It was definitely the rave days because it was loaned from a guy from that scene.I remember buying the Soldiers Story box set but loaned that out and never saw it again.Ive seen this guy do one other podcast about 2months ago.All the best mate.
They don't exactly name everyone in the stories. Only a tiny number have ever been publicly named.

The sas only has about 160 operators across four squadrons, 40 of which are always in the UK. They are spread thin at the best of times.
@@mariolopez-oi2td yeah but the sad reality is because of British government not providing the required funding for their units and unlike them US can deploy anywhere in the world at a moments notice

"Operation Barras" in Sierra Leone year 2000, SF saved six hostages released after 1 & 2 Para secured airport and other vital landmarks under "Operation Pallister"
@@OMT988 listen ,I did say they could not deploy but what I said was they cannot deploy anywhere around the world at the moments notice.Just as the person bieng interviewed said they cannot respond quickly if something were to happen in africa

My country is dying and no one cares
Most prestigious famous regiment in the entire world any guy who earns the winged dagger is automatically a world class soldier of course selection is just the beginning the elect recruit to the regiment will be taught by the most professional soldiers in the world specialist combat weapons skills and many other skills we the public know nothing about.I am just in awe of these guys they are not super men but they are extremely dedicated professional soldiers.
