    Great stuff. My old man was in the jungles of Burma during WW2 fighting the Japanese. He was an older Dad 52 when I was born and everyone at school thought that he was my Grandad. I’m tell you though no one’s Dad was tougher than mine or had his stories. He was a boxer before during and after the war and also played football at a decent level.

    Guys like Billy would have been my ideal role model growing up in the times when I needed it. I'm almost 47 now, and I've done, what I've done,it's just when your hear and k now what you know now you look back and think. Regret is a horrible thing,and some people live with it more than others,and find it harder to shake off ,more than others.

That runway analogy really hit home, & the part about spending time with family etc made me wonder if i really do enough with my family or just do the minimum i think is necessary to get by! ive seriously realised so much watching!, this was one of those interviews il remember as a turning point, iv sat and seriously had a word with myself. hes hit the nail on the head with so many things it’s incredible ! With everything he said i found myself agreeing
    !!!Brilliant!!
    Thank you for your service Billy, its a shame to see our country go to such shit after the sacrifice you and others make to keep us safe, its embarrassing on behalf of the general public im ashamed. I wish I had the chance to sit down with him and tell him what I had been up to. So many things were left unsaid which I put off for years. Would do anything to have a conversation with him now...

    The thing about not repeating the mistakes of your parents is that it's a daily conscious effort. You can't just say it once and forget it, you really need to work on it every day when you notice yourself doing the same stuff and recognise that you indeed are. And you're bound to still do it, but if you keep working on it, you keep giving even more tools to your kids. And truth be told most of our parents are respectable people in one way or another, even the bad ones have something that's worth keeping. So when you repeat how they were, you also have to remember that you're many times repeating the good things they were as well. All of them have flaws, they're just human, but most of them have also many good traits that you cherish and one day you wake up to the fact that you got both sides in you.

    I can relate to SGM Billingham’s upbringing. It’s a pity that we allow things to divide us as a human race, than what we have more in common. A kid in the US can understand a kid in the UK that ate “sugar toast” as a meal!👍🏾

    Ex cop with 30 years street service here. On the mention of the carrying of knives jail sentence. Years ago it was brought out that if you were found carrying a knife you got an instant 5 years. For the rest of my service, NON of those I caught carrying a knife was sentenced to 5 years. If they got jail it was because of their Criminal history. I’ve spoke to some of my colleagues as well and none of us recall anyone getting 5 years. Also there was going to be a ‘marker’ on your record that you were now classed as a ‘Coward’ for carrying a knife. That never happened either. Billy speaks the truth here and his ideas would be perfect but there are far too many do gooders who get offended by such suggestions… FFS some people think jails should be disbanded…

      Should be legal to carry a knife. Streets are lawless nowadays so many scumbags carrying. Why should it be illegal for law abiding citizens to carry? The law doesnt deter criminals from carrying so why cant i carry one for protection ?

    • @TheDavewatts
      @TheDavewatts 7 месяцев назад +3

      @@28mouse85I've always carried a pocket knife, I got stopped by a typical arrogant copper when I was 38 for a stop and search, I'd never in my life been in trouble with the police, not a single blemish to my name, I informed them straight away that I had a pocket knife in my pocket as i had my work trousers still on, it was a small 2.5" blade used for cutting boxes down at work, but the tit because it was a locking knife confiscated it and gave me an adult caution which stays with me for life. No common sense used, typical nob. I've never used a knife for self defense pointless more chances of cutting yourself, your better of carrying a walking stick for self defense if your worried about protecting your self perfectly legal to carry and puts distance between you and an attacker.

    • @JG-fv9bv

      As someone whose carried a knife pretty much every day since I was about 7 years ( now 53 ) and was taught by my Father the proper way to keep , use , respect etc .... the answer is pretty simple .... if someone wants to carry a knife then so be it ... BUT if that knife is used in the commissioning of a criminal act 10 years , if the criminal act results in the loss of life ...... life Sentance ( whole life sentance ) .

    • @mufuliramark
      @mufuliramark 7 месяцев назад

      @@TheDavewatts in Scotland having a box cutter blade or any other kind of work related blade on you whilst in the commission of work is a statutory defence. Just having work trousers on carrying a blade isn’t.

    • @TheDavewatts
      @TheDavewatts 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@mufuliramark Common sense should still apply, I was clearly not a criminal, the laws are ridiculous, for 1 I didn't even know that such a small knife was illegal to carry at the time, hence why I wasn't bothered to remove it from my pocket , 2 I could have carried a knife twice the size if it wasn't locking. Idiotic, I don't care what you say to be honest, won't change my mind, piss take to give a blemish on someone's name who's never done anything to break the law knowingly.

      A lot of people didn’t know what was happening at the time as they thought it was just a car accident. Once they realised they were attacking him, most people naturally don’t want to intervene with 2 people wielding blades with intent to kill. Nor did the onlookers know the intentions of the killers and if they would turn on the bystanders so I don’t blame anyone for not pulling them off Lee Rigby. Some did question what was happening and that spawned the videos of the killers talking to the public

    47:21 .. internet being integrated on the phone made for (maybe) crucial part of industrial evolution. For humanity, figuratively moves faster with it at hand.
    And while we speak, tell, and some yell. There's an Absolute loss of communication. In words, view,sight and perspective. Humanity and said "community" is at a loss these days.
    Been going on for so long, i wonder, where normally i know, if this too, shall pass.
    Solidarity. Is a out of reach or unknown, maybe to some undefined. That's why.
    The gest. Feel. Experience. And Value of it, has to be reignited. Appreciated.
    *not asking for everyone to Trust everyone. Just don't think Everyone is an undeniable piece of sheit just because..
    *and for the knife-topic. I wish. One wouldn't have to, my father was Garde Grenadier. Commando. Sniper. Bodyguard to some chief with labels. In a time when that wasn't a dime a dozen. He was absent. But when he was there, i was drilled. I didn't even have bodyhair. Other did communion and went to church, i had tactical conditioning. To me a knife holds no masculinity. It's like a toothbrush. A knife, is for men, monsters, and emergencies.
    In 35 years. I have beaten. Been beaten. Shit my pants. Made others shit theirs. My knife leaves it's sheath to be cared for. Or to be put to use.
    I'm glad to this day. I've only Cared for it. Not asking for applause. Trying to add and make a point. If you didn't get this, you didn't get His.

    Bull sh.t about carrying knives, your punishing the wrong people, I've carried a pocket knife since a very young age as they are a useful tool to carry, I've never used one in anger even when I've gotten into fights, it's stayed in my pocket. That being said I'm not talking carrying a machete round Tesco's.
