- Watch this incredible video of an RAF C-17 aircraft making a hair-raising landing on the remote St Helena island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
The aircraft from the Royal Air Force's 99 Squadron is the largest ever to land on the island.
Challenging winds from the rock formations make landing particularly difficult.

Fabulous. Must be a good feeling for the islanders to know they are not alone now
Actually not all of them are so happy about it..
Up the boys. Love the fact that we are visiting our territories 🙏😎
That's some seriously impressive piloting. And a very capable aircraft. Congratulations to the crew.
Always good to have an alternative in case Ascension Island is unavailable
Huge congratulations guys…. Hurrah for the RAF👍🇳🇿
Well Done nice landing
RAF simply the best
The RAF ARE THE BEST GOD BLESS THE AIRMAN AND AIR WOMAN
That's British pilots for you 😊😊😊
Well... that wasn't a struggle.
But as the saying goes, "Any landing you can walk away from is always a good one."
Way to go guys!
Nicely done
Phenomenal. American aerospace and RAF Airmen.
Nothing to do with America.
@@newton18311 He ment the plane .
3000 British patents caught america up anyway so it's still British
@@scottuk66Who manufactured the aircraft again?
@@Div1ne_1 Like the Mustang, wouldn't have been possible without Britain
Well done Sir!
Truly one of the coolest air show demos, if you are lucky enough to witness the C-17.
Excellent reverse trusters and airmanship
Lol. That's tiny? 😂😂😂
Beautiful
runway looks narrow and short...
top effort
But never act Tristan da Cuna.
No video from outside at the airport?
My hat's off to the folks at 99 Squadron. Tenacious bunch, each one of them. Great job as always.
We just need Easyjet to do a special service there now
Av that!
There's a lad on St Helena called Joseph Brady.
Are his family referred to as a bunch
Terrain turn up is probably the last most annoying thing u wanna hear before plummeting to earth
I did it ages ago in VR
USAirforce level story IT IS well done
The warning alarm sounds American.
Ok?
How do they plan on getting off it?
Taxiing to the end of the runway, flaps down, apply the brakes, throttle up to full power, let the RPM increase to maximum, release the brakes.
Got a better idea? Is there a better idea?
Do you think the RAF would be so stupid to allow one of their multimillionaire pound/dollar planes to land on a runway and not plan a successful way to take off?
Wow impressive. Now do it with a full load onboard. 😉
Maybe, why we should have parachutes to aid braking. Amazing.
When you scrapping this then...... Its useful.
That’s amazing but I guess when it was done the plane was carrying no cargo and just enough fuel as well.
Hmmm. Asking the obvious question: what about taking off again?
C-17 has excellent short field performance. Lots of thrust that deflects off the flaps for a lot of lift
There is nothing we can do
Too late to rescue Napoleon Bonaparte.
Do the math. That's not impressive. 1500m is 1.5km 😂😂😂
That's very impressive for an aircraft of this size. Most require significantly more runway.
