- Learn how to create creatures using basic cubes in this drawing tutorial. Transform simple shapes into unique and imaginative creatures with this step-by-step guide!
Drawing is a skill that most people wish they could do but they immediately put themselves in the category of "Oh, I could never do that." I want to take this time and welcome you to my channel: Draw Sessions.
I've been drawing all my life and have had the privilege of working both for AAA game studios and also movies. I have taught foundation drawing at the University of Cincinnati and it's time now to give back. I understand the frustrations of learning art in general but specifically, drawing. My channel is dedicated in helping absolute beginners, intermediate artists, and industry veterans - all wanting to improve their drawing skills. I just finished watching your last video, i was sad cause i've watched all of them. And suddenly this just popped up. I love you. HAHAHAHAHA thanks, bobby! Aweome video!
I wish that my art teacher some 40 years ago had taught us to do this. This REALLY makes a huge difference. Thank you for the lesson. :)
I find it pleasing to draw cubes. Thank you for bringing this method up.
I love watching the creature come to life, you’re amazing!
Thanks, Leann!
Love the vids dude, i just watch them while i draw on the side. Hearing your voice is soothing and reassuring
This helps a lot, I've been practicing drawing cubes in space for a while now but I find it difficult to place something inside those cubes. Gotta practice more
I am a professional artist, and you have helped my art. Thanks.
Happy to help and thanks for watching my tutorials.
Just what I need.
Bro. SIR. You are awesome!
Im enjoying your videos. I really like watching the details andvthevm relaxing music
This was really cool. I like how you're doing your damnedest to make fundamentals both fun and mental. I know it's a more advanced topic, but I'd love to see you break down how you approach your rendering and shading, as it really is the cherry on top with your work. Also, it'd be great if there was a brief moment at the end of the video where you showcase your finished piece (whatever state that may be), before the next video/channel links etc pop up and cover the screen.
Thanks for another awesome video though man, you're crushing it as they say.
Thanks, man! I have an entire playlist on that😉
@@bobbyrebholz2183 Oh excellent thank you, I will look for it. My bad for not checking first!
This is a excellent lesson. Thank you for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
Amasing amazing wow
bro you are a master at art dude 😭😭
MY MAN! Bobby Rebholz! Love your videos. I laughed so hard when I saw your post about relocating for a job in the gaming industry being terrifying! HAHAHA, true though, true though...
I mean, it USED to sound really cool and I almost did it twice. Glad I didn't!
Thanks for exist, your lessons really help me a lot ❤ hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷
You're so welcome!
also if you wanna check the center line of your box. go from corner to corner and that will cross where your center point of the box is.
That's a great hint, i knew how to do that but using it on a box to place a 3d form into it is genius. It's one of these"obvious in hindsight" this things.
amazing tutorial, Drawing is one of my favorite thing that I want to do but I don't have time, lol. I bought a set of drawing tools worth around 80USD and I just kept it in my cabinet.
Make that time!
You are a rare gem 💎
That means a lot, thank you
Great creativity ❤
I just binge your videos whenever i draw .
That means a lot when people decide to binge them. Thank you.
I love your videos, but could you please tell me what kind of pencil you are using because when I use my drawing pencils, it feels really dull and it is super light.
I use 4b. But also, it doesn't matter what pencil it is. Your hand controls everything.
Thank you it is just that I wanted my creatures to look as realistic and shaded as yours. @@bobbyrebholz2183
So when using this box method is it ok to go outside of the box? If so when, or do you recommend staying inside the box? Sry I try to think outside the box😂. Thanks Bobby for the time you put in for us!🦶
It's good to stay inside it until you understand perspective and eyeball it without construction lines.
The box is just a visual aide to show the plains of the 3d space the object is being drawn in, so as long as anything outside of it matches or lines up with the established vanishing points, it will still work. However, if you're using the box method in the first place, it's a potential sign of poor planning if you have to go outside of it. If you find yourself needing to go outside the box and you want to still be using the box, you can also just extend the size of the box to accommodate the new area.
Do you draw inspirations from real animals?
Yep
Thanks.
Do you have any recommendations on thinking of details to add to drawings? I feel like i can draw basic stufff but I'm horrible at thinking of things like the scales you drew on the leg or even the shape of the head to really make my drawings pop
I would do texture studies. So basically just find references of materials, wood, leaves, skin, scales, feathers etc. At first draw them in as much detail as possible, but then go on to redraw while trying to refrain from using the full details. When drawing textures, less can be more, and its creating the impression that there's more there than you show. Google this : drawabox texture analysis
hopefully that'll give you some ideas on how to add more details.
Edit: Bobby (this channel) has a how to draw playlist that has videos on exactly what I was talking about!
Once I get the shape in, it's about studying animals and figuring out which animal most closely represents the creature I'm designing. Then, I can think about the details.
Have you done a tutorial on locomotion of creatures???? I’m trying to work on world building and I want to have some crazy and unique creatures but I feel limited by movement. Any suggestions?
Find the animals on Earth that most closely represent the creatures you're inventing. Study their movements because that will give you the best indication.
@@bobbyrebholz2183 Thanks so much!
great video but lost me at drawing the center line up and over the far leg but that same line was not drawn up and over the front leg.. ?
The front leg is not in the centre of the box, that's all. the leg on the back is in line with the creature's spine which is also in line with the centre of the box.
Bingo!
