How To Change Hair Color In Photoshop - Including Black Hair To Blonde

- In this tutorial I'm going to show you how to change hair color in Photoshop.
I'll show you how to turn a woman's brunette hair to black, red, blonde, and green.
Keep in mind that when doing hair color changes in Photoshop it is a lot easier to go from light hair colors to dark. One of the reasons is that lighter hair tends to have more detail and therefore you can make better adjustments.
Going from dark hair to light hair is much more difficult. For example turning black hair into blonde hair is extremely difficult or impossible in a lot of cases because the details in the hair are lost in the shadows and darkness, and the color changes often look unrealistic.
In this tutorial I will show you what I would do in a black hair to blonde color change. It won't be a 100% realistic hair color conversion, but depending on your photo and your goals this might be good enough.
Keep in mind is that everyone's hair is different. The numeraical values for opacity or any other adjustments that I use on this photo may not work for your photo. You will have to experiment, and see what works for your images.
For some hair color changes there might be more than one way to get to the same result; which is why in this tutorial I'll cover 3 ways of changing hair color.
Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer.
Selective Color Adjustment Layer.
Gradient Map Adjustment Layer.

It's just suggestion which I have found that you can achieve better results for black to blonde using selective color layer. And adding orange-yellowish solid color layer with softlight blend mode. Try this you will definitely get better result. In this video what you called blonde seemed mostly gold-brown hair only.

u paint with the brush in refine edge mode and it works perfectly when in my case it all deletes the selcetion and never selects out hair out of the background even with radius on

refine edge is not available in my cc2020
I'm sure you're explaining it properly but I can't get it to work for me. Tried to change blonde hair to dark, did all the settings as you did , but some steps weren't available as I guess we have different versions. When I tried to use the hue and saturation only some hair turned darker and other parts (and it was all selected) did not. The parts that turned dark didn't show any hair detail, it just turned dark. Anyway, in the top right corner you have swatches and below that you have "Add Adjustment," well my Add Adjustment went away for some reason, do you know how to get it back?

I really love this, but can't seem to get it to work when there are lose strands of hair etc.
You may have to clone out/mask out/remove the difficult to get strands. It can be really hard or impossible to get all the small lose strands.
I'm having issues with even the main colours, I found out after.

which vwrsion of photoshop is it?
4:47 when i try to do this, it only works if i repeatedly click on the spot, otherwise theres no difference and i cant clean up the edges?
I was using a Wacom Tabler so it would be a bit different with the mouse. You may need to increase the flow and opacity.

When you say "real" picture, do you mean bad quality? if so, it would of course be much harder and you will have limitations.

The blonde doesn't look very realistic.. I know it's a very hard thing to do though.
That's the hardest one!
but the so called Blonde hair color you were using isn't blonde. real blondes have lighter hair color than that and what about making someone's hair grey or white to make them age
