  • Ton Tielen provided an introduction to the Portuguese-Jewish archives of Amsterdam. He discussed the original three synagogues that later merged into one.
The Amsterdam archives are probably the most important resource for Sephardic genealogists, and Ton is an acknowledged expert on the subject. Through the archives, he will discuss the history of the three original Sephardic communities, their merger, and what records remain of the early period. Ton will show and discuss records of the community's many charities, rabbis, parnasim, the relationships with Ashkenazim, and the community's international reach.
Ton Tielen is a well-known personality in the world of Sephardic genealogy. He co-founded this series of meetings, the Sephardic Genealogical Society, and The Sephardic Diaspora group on Facebook. He formerly served as archivist of the Netherlands Red Cross.
