How come no one ever designs them around "observed cat behavior"?
Care to elaborate?
Dylan looked happy in there so surely that is reason enough to make it
@@RagnBoneBrown instead of building a reasonable house for reasonable creatures. Instead build them based around what a cat would actually do or use. For example some people recommend houses with two points of entry so cat won't feel trapped in.
David Serrano it’s for internal use. There are no predators in my house. I’ve lived with cats for 36 years so I’m desperate to know what the original commenter wants to tell me about what I don’t know about cat behaviour
I observed his cat lounging in it looking pretty content. Does that count?
Nice! Get well soon.
Lucky Dylan. Hope you feel better soon Keith!
Dylan has a good taste !!!!!! The roof is amazing !!!!! Great job !!!!
Thank you!
Very unique and look good also! Thank you.
Looking good.
In future you may want to try cutting the bulk out of the circle with a jig saw to give your router an easier time. Saw just inside the line then your router is only having to trim a few millimeters back to the template rather than honking out the full cutters width 😊
I considered that although because I’d already added the cladding there wasn’t quite enough room for the jigsaw base to be able to make the cut. I should have cut the hole earlier on! Although maybe I could have used the oscillating tool to do it
When doing production runs for these, a mini circle cutting base for your router allows to cut the doors everytime perfectly round and leaving a very crisp edge. If cutthing more than one, the 1st cut door becomes your template. Great video!
Very nice cat house 🏠. I like the look and design.
I hope you are feeling better now
Get well soon, Mr. Brown.
the legs look awesome! always good to use off-cuts. i hope kitty appreciates it! ha ha. keep up the great work.
Looks great!! Feel better!
Good job, another happy cat !
Top cat houses mate. Hope ya better soon. Hope you and the family have a great 2021
Hope you feel better soon, Dylan is getting spoiled with all these new beds! 🤣
Get better soon, Keith, Nice job,
Really enjoyed the video and I do think my cat Solo, would love it too!
Nicely done! Hope you'll get well soon.
Suddenly I'm interested in carpentry and woodworking.😍
Then you are in the real life
Nice one Keith - hope you're feeling better now
You should make Cat houses for outdoor (Rainproof and snowproof) with plastic. There is a big market in the USA for it. People usually buy them for Feral/Stray cats.
Good job. I hope you feel better soon.
Thanks!
Cute looking houses; hope you feel better soon : )
Looks like your hole cutter and router bit could use some sharpening. Great job. Thanks for sharing.
Ooh from the shot in the beginning it looks like a cosy wee cabin for a fuzzy buddy!
Likes video
When cutting a rebate I like to make the upright cut first. This way it's still fully supported.
really nice job!
That’s given me an idea of what I’d like to build for my jack Russell cross Chihuahua. Nice one Keith great video mate 👍🏼👍🏼
Try PVA at 50/50 mix with water as a primer for a substitute primer !!
Great Project Keith!!
Always nice.👍 I don’t miss ur videos once uploaded....
I love cats more than my life 😊❤️😍
Same
Thats one happy cat
Get better soon Keith!!
I'm starting a wood work course this month and I'd love to make this for my fur baby
Another great video Keith. Thanks
Sorry to hear that you're not well. Nothing serious I hope.
Get well soon 😊👍
Cheers Si, bronchitis but I think I’m just about shifting it now 👍
Very Nice Keith. You will have to do a follow up, way in the future, and let us know how the cushions held up with Hot glue.
I wanna learn carpentry so that I can build all these stuff. Amazing job.
I made one and used felt to water proof I like the idea of varnish
Re the discussion below about cat behaviour. I live in a part of the world where there are all kinds of cats, wild and domestic, really big (cougars), medium (bobcats) and small (feral and domestic) and generally, they are 'cave' dwellers. Cats that don't live in groups (prides and clowders for instance) like their back covered so they can watch the entrance. Cats are seldom fully asleep when on their own. So any discussion around a cat feeling cornered in your cat houses is in my opinion coming from a place of not knowing cats very well. They can defend themselves very effectively if they only have one direction to be concerned about. I've lived with cats on and off for 50+ years and these are some of my observations over that time.
Really, really like your cat houses, especially the one in this video. My only comment would be that I would like to see a hinged section of the roof that could be used for easier access to the interior for cleaning up the inevitable collection of smelly kitty litter.
Why would cat litter get in it? Sorry, I'm not being dumb. I genuinely don't know.
Lovely ❤️ hope you are well soon
I love this, it's a little hobbit-esque. Very cute, and stylish.
After you sand off the edges of the MDF go over them with some wire wool it brings them up really smooth
I used 400 grit wet and dry which does pretty much the same job I think
Not going to tell you what you should have done. 😉
The best compliment that you can possibly get, is that your cat loved it.
so cool ! nice!
i like it so much
Hope you get well soon
Ahhh little Dillon loves it.
I would highly recommend when cutting a hole with a router that you roughly cut the hole with a jig saw and then use the router at full depth, assuming the jig saw has not left too much material. Also with a bit of geometry the bevels on the cladding could be made more snug perhaps.
He is a tip for you mate instead of wasting money on wood filler make your own get some wood dust and add some glue mixing together and apply to the hole and send it when it's dry
This kitty made his human work hard for him
Nice job
Nice one keith
Nice build! Thanks for sharing.
Good idea to sell the plans (also) at Etsy.
Be healthy soon.
I finally followed up on your suggestion 😃 thanks
@@RagnBoneBrown You don't have what to thank for.
I did not expect you would sell plans at Etsy. Most RUclipsrs do it from their web-site, or directly via a link in the description box.
Do you have any experience showing your projects at Pinterest (pictures and text)?
I’d need to sign up for some sort of merchant account with someone in order to be able to sell from my website, so I figured Etsy was the next best thing. I’m not sure if I’ll sell any but time will tell. I’ve put some things on Pinterest before but I don’t really “get” the platform to be honest...
People are so talented & creative around world like u and here I'm, i got no talent no life!!😵
Lucky cats 😊😊
Nice one, Keith. Hope Dylan gets Equity rates...! Get well soon. Best aye.
He’s very selective about when he wants to be on camera!
Beautiful cat house, how long were the simi-circles, face and back of the cat house...
Хороший домик для любимого питомца.
Nice project, man, that’s a happy cat. Sewing straight lines is pretty easy, actually, and you can get a sewing machine with no frills for cheap. Since you’re a beginner, making cushions like those should be a nice learning project. You’d learn straight sewing and how to sew a simple zipper. Also, since you don’t intend to make clothes (I’m assuming, here), it can be really helpful to know the simple things about sewing so you could make things for the shop and for your products. My work aprons and a friend’s were all done by me, for instance. I’d be happy to post a pic, if you’re curious. :)
I’d love to be able to get in to sewing but at the moment I don’t have the time to do it by hand or the space to keep a sewing machine
Hi Keith.
I was wondering if you'd be able to give me some advice..... I've recently built a shed 2.1m2 with internal measurements coming at 1.8m2 (if memory serves me right ) the internal measurement is from frame to frame not shiplap to shiplap ..... if you understand that I'll be amazed !!! Lol
My question is would it be worth insulating between frame and the using a 6mm ply as the wall or is there another cheap method to sound proof the shed
Clearly my space is limited so my work benches will be modular and multiple functions (eventually) I don't own a money tree !!
Any advice would be nice haha cheers 👍

Catching up on the Making It podcast 👍
Mt cats are wanting me to make one now for outside...;-(
Get well soon mate..;-)
Get well soon keith. 🐱
Interesting design, did all the slats meet lengthways at the top, there looked to be a gap which could be good for ventilation?
I must say your title could be seen a bit click baity by your American viewers, Cat House has a whole different meaning over there :-) , but I am an Australian so I knew exactly what you were talking about :-). Excellent video and thankyou for the effort you put in to doing them.
Gripfil has a short shelf life but it hasn't got a date on it they are a bit cunning. Try a better silicone gun or helpful solvent free is more plyable
get well soon
Super ❤
Hello, wonderful achievement. Could I have the dimensions please. Thank you very much.
nice build how are you getting on with the sprayer you got am looking forward to your thoughts
I’ve used it once, I think I’ll do a video on it at some point when I find the time
Great !!!
Nice
Despacito spotted in the background! Vice nice work!
I feel I have to point out that I wasn’t listening to it out of choice, it was on the radio. 😂
@@RagnBoneBrown 😂😂😂
Great job! One quick question if you don't mind: Was Dylan annoyed at all by the smell of the varnish? Should not be as bad when it completely cures, but having used the spray variety, the smell can linger for a few days.
I think maybe it depends on the varnish that you use. Water based varnish from a can cures quickly (a few hours depending on weather) and the acrylic spray stuff cures in minutes, it’s brilliant for that. It stinks when you’re spraying it though!
Great job. As always. What brand of varnish do you use? And get well soon
I buy the Everbuild stuff on Amazon and I like it. It’s about £8 for a 750ml can I think. The Screwfix “no nonsense” stuff is equally good though
Wondering about heated cat pads....could a hole be drilled in back or bottom for the cord?
It gets so warm inside when my cat uses it - I guess it’s just his body heat. It’s a nice idea but not sure it’s necessary - maybe too hot!
Hot-gluing fabric... I can't sew either but I've had a pair of curtains that I've been meaning to trim for a long time. Maybe it would work? ;-)
I enjoyed the video and the design of your cat house. There's a product called MDF sealer than can also be used prior to painting. Some people will also apply a 50/50 mix of PVA and water to the edges as a primer.
All the best and hope you soon recover from feeling ill.
It works surprisingly well on fabric! Give it a try but maybe iron the gems before gluing for a more pro result 👍
I know about the dealing products but I wanted to just use what I have, and the paint bonded fine luckily.
Thanks!
@@RagnBoneBrown Thanks, Keith. I might try that.

salute to you sir.. :) i like this vid.. just wanna ask if ur varnish or finishing's odorless.. coz most of the time, varnish's(or paint's) odor last for a long time.. and our pets are sensitv to strong smell..
The water based varnishes and polyurethanes don’t smell much at all
ow ok.. thank you sir.. :) glad to hear that
Have you modified your riving knife so that it sits below the blade, thus enabling you to do the rebates?
Yes!
@@RagnBoneBrown Thanks for the reply. How's this done, please?
May I know that I can order that cat house?
nicework
I want to be like you but I don't have the tools:(
Job well done, Keith! Dillon looks happy.
Do you like your Ryobi hot glue gun? I’m a Makita girl and I have all of those standard woodworking tools; however, I have one Ryobi tool, so I’m looking for another Ryobi tool, so I can get maximum usage of the battery.
Yes I like it so far. It’s the best hot glue gun I’ve had but then again all the other have been pretty poor! I’d like to see one of the big brands make a premium cordless hot glue gun!
Nice work and very well explained. Thank you to post it.
Do you know what has happened to stephens 8by6 workshop?
No I don’t 😩 I miss his videos
Nice project Keith! Thank you for sharing the video with us.👍😎JP
my little 14lb Cavalier King Charles Spaniel would like that, but I only have room for her kennel. :) Maybe you could make a beautiful small dog kennel?
I’ve made one before actually, but it was a pretty old video. I might make a new one at some point but waterproofing them is always the challenge
Another brilliant project, keep them coming mate .
Will this work for a Jack Russell? 😐
Yeah I can’t see why not
Great work! I wish I had the workshop you have.
Dylan loves that little hideaway - you just have to let him keep one ! I'm sure as a thank you he would give you a "get better soon dad" cuddle (whether you want one or not, if your ill, a cat will always sense it and pile on you providing a self heating hot water bottle). Hope you feel better soon mate.
Thank you! Yes that’s true he’s been on my lap a lot 👍
lol - how big were those 'curtains'. You've gotten at least 3 projects out of them! :-)
I’ve still got half of a curtain left I think! They were huge and only £3 I think from memory!
I would love to buy this for my cat😂 I cant build..😭
Plot twist: the cat ignored the house and it sat in a box
Do you know to make cat house..i am so lazy to buy some pet house...
Once those cats move in they are hard to evict!
Lovely. I would have liked to see the overhanging undersides of the cladding in grey too just to extend the pop of grey.
I wish I could get a house for my cat. I have no money to buy one for her
Magnífico! Cara você é muito bom .Parabéns!!!
🐱👍
Nice project. I like how you aren't afraid to show your mistakes and how you overcome them. I knew Dylan would steal one! Get well soon!
Dude when are you going to learn. 😋 Every time this happens! Next time just make 4 as you know Dillon will steal one again! Get well.
