Today I am going to show you an intriguing build of Windows 10 - and it's not Windows 10X. It's the build 18946 dating way back to the July of 2019. It looks like Microsoft had already been preparing for a major redesign of the UI back then, accidentally pushing it to the Fast Ring insiders.

I like how he decided to use the old intro for this new betaexplorer video
Beta Explorer is a company that gives ender his beta ISO’s. It’s a sub branch of the main Endermanch conglomeracy
Oh my god I forgot about that intro... damn it's been so long
@@MJdaCamell why do you keep referring to this as "companies"
@@DorpyTheFox, probably for the lulz.
i was shocked too. i looke dat the date of uploading and i was shocked
The timebomb isn't going off as every build after 14965 doesn't have a timebomb as strict (still boots on the current date)
The behavior of timebomb is varied between Windows builds in general.
Just in case, I forget which executable it is, but if you delete one singular executable in the wim image of the installer, I believe it's in Windows System 32. You can actually completely disable any and all time bombs for any and all insider builds. I did it for my Raspberry Pi on an arm build at one point, so I know it's real and it does work.
hi all
X😮😮😮S
@@FoxyAnimater Which build was it? Every build before 14965 would need ci.dll and winload.efi to be patched so you could boot on current date.
Windows timebombs work very differently nowadays, instead of not booting after the timebomb goes off, the certificate used to sign every system file expires and causes a lot of stuff to break. (such as the OOBE requiring elevation, MMC being blocked, etc) If you install this build on the correct date, no such problems would happen.
Also this build most likely was an internal test build of the 10X UI on desktop, since 10X has been in development since at least early 2019, definitely predating 18946. I suspect Windows 11 started as a project to bring most of 10X's UI to desktop, and slowly morphed into 11.
but can you actually resign the certs
11 is, after all, pretty much just a reskin of 10.
MS were working on redesigning 10's UI for a fair few years before it publicly leaked out as the "Sun Valley" 22H2 update that eventually morphed into Win11. It's clear to see the progression from 10 to 10X to 11.
@@abc-oo8ce No. I've tried this and it does not work unless you patch Windows CI
@@laglife oh
The only way to get around the system certificate problem is by disabling UAC entirely (EnableLUA = 0)
Man that intro brings back some memories
not until you realise it was intended for Windows 10X, but specifically before 10X has been named, it was Centaurus.
The timebomb on the builds after 14965 won't go off since it will still let you boot on the current date but the certificate expires, a lot of system stuff behaves weird (UAC even for system applications, MMC getting blocked unless opening though CMD,...)

hmm
it's almost like windows 11 is a comprehensive reskin of windows 10 with a bunch of web browsers integrated into it
thats what we have now already
And more memory consumption
old intro in the big 2024 is crazy, thought i clicked on the wrong video hahaha
I thought BetaExplorer as a series died like 4 years ago after like 3 videos. But it's great to see it back.
Wait… DOES THE BUILD STRING HAVE XBOX IN IT? XBOX BUILD???
I noticed that too!
@@mine4114-rc7nu me too. strange
Yeah seen that too, wondered what is it, maybe some pre series x/s os build bcz its 2019?
That's what I thought! People in this comments section though are saying it could be an early build on Win10X, which is what eventually became Win11. Notably, 10X was designed for dual-screen devices, so maybe they planned a dual screen xbox handheld?
It's just a build team that works on XBOX, does not have to be an XBOX build
6:43 It's not that much of a suprise for me that some stuff are actually webviews in the retail windows 11, i'd love to see if windows has internally some "websites" files that works as programs
OOBE is just a web app. He made a video on it.
0:24 hours here in spain and watching a enderman video after a long time
It really pisses me off that search is baked everywhere on Windows 11 but they STILL put it on the taskbar -…-
It’s just annoying to turn off on every new windows install
Beside web search, what's wrong?
Also, Everything by voidtools only looks for filenames. You still can't search for things such as "group policy". So I would have to use both intechangably.
2:31: perfect timematch
Reminds me of Explorer Patcher when it crashes and breaks my entire desktop....
bruh
the intro brought back so much memories and the endcardds
2:31 The sync 🔥🔥
Windows 10X was the beta of windows 11 just like windows longhorn to vista (10x was designed for dual screen before Microsoft decided to scrap it and work it's features on 11)
It's not analogous. Windows 10X isn't even built on the normal Windows, it was built on Windows Core OS.
@mrfoxesite69482 Windows 10 build 21370 or 11 build 21370?
0:44 🔥sync
That's sick
OMG ISOXO AS BACKGROUND MUSIC?!? THANK YOU ENDERMAN!!
I can see someone liked the new CS2 music kits haha. Nice video, the beat drops timed exactly to opening the start menu were a chefs kiss
isoxo? iso and knock r like my favorite artists lol
Windows 11: In this moment the video has 11 hours old. Chance?
I had to re-check the upload date when I saw the intro
2:23 You can make your life a bit easier and remove that message entirely by deleting LicensingUI.exe in System32.
Also, as many explained below the reason why you're getting UAC and MMC being blocked is due to the signature problem. The only way to get around this is to turn UAC off entirely (EnableLUA = 0).
Intro and the endcards brought so much memories 😂
Oh god, the web view in a start menu is an atrocity
The betaexplorer intro is something I didn't have on my bingo card for this year.
I have read somewhere, the recommended section is native react component. looks like pin section is also reactive native. So web view was early web version of this. Despite being react native, the performance of new Windows 11 UI is slower than UWP or Win32, especially on context menus on desktop. Hope they match the performance of Win32 with react native elements.
New betaexplorer video before GTA 6? Wow, that intro, the memories.
i wish windows 11 could look more like windows 7 and have aero and old features....
Windows 11 is actually more like Windows 7 than Windows 10. Transparencies predominate (although they don't look like glass), The corners of the visual elements are rounded, the interface has quite a few shadows. In addition, the icons are increasingly moving away from the flat design of Windows 10.
@@lolalorena990 ya but i mean the icons on windows 11 are just not shiny they are just rounded and lame. i meant that I wanted more windows 7 than more windows 11 cuz who likes mica? no one! cuz windows 11's design is bad! How bout we give windows 11 the force to get into the windows 7 community. and btw....
WINDOWS 11 IS SPYWARE!
the taskbar and the start menu look like lame boring jokes to me. When will windows 11 end support?
RIGHT NOW!
@bonziorglover2023 Windows 11 is supported until at least 2030/2031.
Besides, as I was saying to someone else, people stick with things out of pure nostalgia, because I bet few people would feel comfortable using Windows XP or Windows 7 right now.
I agree that instead of mica they should have opted for acrylic, but it must also be taken into account that acrylic could cause problems with readability, especially in windows that uses it in the background like the settings app. Besides, Aero only looked nice when there was an image underneath. If there was text underneath, it didn't look as nice.
It makes me laugh how everyone who complains about Windows 11 being spyware is either using Windows 10 which is ABSOLUTELY THE SAME THING or using an android/iOS with the whole meta pack and Tik Tok installed And then they don't say anything when at least I and most of the people I know carry the most sensitive information on their phones rather than on their computers, which they only use for work or play, and then worry that "Windows 11 is spying" when they are just as happy using meta apps on their phones.

Fun fact: there is also another build with some windows 11 stuff but it was made on 16/4/2021 and it only has the new settings app and the context menu
I remember back in July 2019 I watched Zac Bowden's video about this build. How are others discovering it now
The start menu on 2:48 was on every insider build until 21H2 21277 released in late 2020.
finally you continued the series of beta explorer
I love the cs music kits in the background :)
Love the CSGO mvps in your last videos 👍
Love that you've been using NIGHTMODE songs in your videos lately!
I know right! I love iso & knock
I like W10 as it is, the squared and compact design is great. They're just redesigning for the sake of changing sth, but less and less parts of the UI get redesigned now, so we're on a weird mix of Vista/7/8/10/11, and at the very deep even older stuff. Windows needs to be rewritten completely at this point. It's unstable, slow, unsecure, etc. 10 was my last Win, already switched to Debian, and trying out macOS rn.
W11 is simply made to spy on you like never before
i wish microsoft made it's design better. i really love the fluent design but it feels weird because most things haven't changed much
Windows makes too many compromises for the sake of compatibility, and mac too few. Linux is the sweet spot in this regard
@@shadesoftime the macos one is so true, like you can't even run x86-32 apps
@@shadesoftime For a few month now, I've been daily driving a Ryzen Pro 6650U in a used HP Elitebook with Debian 12 + Gnome. It's really good, all of the firmware came included, flawless OOBE. Battery life is decent, way better than windows, at around 3-4 hours with Docker based software development. But, I always have some kind of issue, glitch, crash, weird errors, every single day. Installing software is is not great. If I'm lucky to get a .deb file it's all good (but Gnome can't just launch the package installer prompt, it treats it as an archive), but the repositories are mostly outdated, firefox just gives a tarball with the binary, some software are using weird snap and flatpak stuff, Zed has to be cloned and compiled, etc. TLDR, if I want to install something, I always have to whip out the terminal. This is unusable for my family members, I'd be tech supporting 24/7. Which is why I'm trying out macos.
The old introoo! I love it!
You have excellent music taste, but it would be cool if the credits were in the desc too.

Hey, if you'd like to take a deeper look into windows 11 dev process, I would highly recommend you taking a look a windows 10x.
It's a (mostly) forgotten attempt by Micro$oft to make win run on their dual screen surface devices before they fully abandoned it and released the final devices with android.
It looks SHOCKINGLY (ui-wise) simillar to windows 11.
I'm sure there are some usual MS jank to be found in the archived builds.
Take care, and thx for the vids :)
Oops, looks like some ppl mentionned it already, still, take a look at it, its truly intresting.
and the recently leaked beta builds to
He's very aware of 10x, he even mentioned it in the video lmao
The issue is that most old builds of this require an actual dual screen tablet. Microsoft released in the past a Windows 10X Emulator, which required you to download one of their builds on microsoft store, that they now got rid of. Windows 10X is pretty much erased from the public.
@SimplyMatthew i can still download those builds and vhd builds of Windows 10x exists
The proto tablet view Start Menu reminds me of how ChromeOS did their app drawer a few years ago if they haven't changer it.
lol nice old enderman style title and end cards
Interesting to see a pretty rare build of Windows 10 that has a couple of Windows 11 UI quirks hidden by default.
I'm sure that at the end of windows 11's life cycle it will be much better than now.
nice isoxo inhuman song at the start. good music kit in cs2 ngl
Эндермен вернул старое интро. Не ожидал
The start menu, while it could use a lot of work, actually isn’t too bad
Would still use Win7/10’s start menu if that was an option
Even I didn't know about that build until I watched this video.
I think there is also a build of Windows 10 (idk if that build also have it) that had a floating search with rounded corners and looks similar to Windows 11
We're being blessed with the upload schedule
wow, the old intro was a nice throwback...
On 24H2, I have Open Shell start menu and Explorer Patcher installed. Makes using Windows 11 bearable! 😊
I mean, I don't see why microsoft doesn't make the equivalent to "windows fundamentals for legacy pc's". LTSC IoT enterprise is how windows 11 should be for all consumers.
It doesn't have the bs hardware restrictions, and it doesn't have any of the bloat. I did pirate it for a bit before switching to debian w/ TDE, and unfortunately I really liked it.
The EU needs to slap microsoft the same way they did apple, consumers shouldn't have to compromise with an intentionally more defective product out of the box.
The forced and non-necessary hardware requirements is promoting the unhealthy practice of obsolescence, microsoft is creating trash/ewaste because their software is totally ass.
loved the cs2 music
Interesting that you used only cs2 music kit music in your two latest videos
lookss like you brought back the old intro!

babe, BetaExplorer is back!
Enderman's video makes it feel like I'm the only one who still misses Legacy Edge. The Chromium one is just painfully slow.
i must be on something in order to see BetaExplorer
I still remember they told 10 was the last version.
Possible meanings I can think of:
1. Windows 10 was intended to stay as the last version, but the practice was later changed. It's possible, especially on how Windows 11 was released for sale during the COVID-19 pandemic.
2. Windows 10 is the last version before the new requirements such as TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, but these aren't hardcoded, just artificially blocked at setup.
3. Windows 10 is the last real new version, 11 is just another feature update.
what happens if you run setup.exe (the one that that the windows installation uses) on a build of windows thats already functioning?
You can do that anyway to do the installation from within Windows if you just put the disc in on an existing Windows instillation.
@@World_of_OSes oh thank you lol. I was curious to know what would happen!
