Most apartment buildings in Singapore are like this. Restaurants, grocery stores, variois shops on the first few floors, and apartments above. Some people who work in those shops live above, so their commute is literally an elevator ride. It's convineant, saves space, and beneficial for the enviroment
Im from Alaska and Whittier doesn't look like that. It's truly not just in the middle of nowhere...it's only like 2 hours from anchorage and there is a lot of other buildings in the area. It's a place a lot of people go to for fishing during the summer.
Wow, this concept of a whole town in one building is simply amazing! As an introvert, I can definitely see it as a heaven for people like me. The minimal carbon emissions and the absence of daily commutes make it even more appealing. Imagine the amount of time saved and the increased productivity that can be achieved in such a setup. It's a dream come true for work-life balance enthusiasts. I genuinely hope that someday everyone gets to experience living in a place like this because it's truly the best, especially for families. Just imagine, your children going to school in the same building where they live. It may be a small town, but it's definitely the best in my eyes. 😊
How, as an introvert, do you like it!?. Everyone up in ur bizniz all day...Hartman didn’t show face 2 days....etc... she bought MORE jello! Id be in the caretakers apt across the street to on that show “alone” ha
As an introvert myself I do hope for this reason as well as others the comment was deep sarcasm or a bot. Here's my version. Wouldn't it be amazing for the environment and social benefits if we all lived in community pods where we all shared belongings isolated from the environment and where our wastes were recycled to meet all our food needs. And it would save so much time wasted preparing food if there could be just a waste processing tube that injected needed nutrients just connected from our anus direct to our stomach. Just think of the reduced carbon and work life balance! 😅 But of course I'm taking it to the extremes of this type of thinking. The people in this community seem lovely and if it makes them or the commentator above happy they should be free to voluntarily choose living as they wish. It's not for everyone and people should remain free to live in the ways that works for them. One person's heaven can be another's hell. I recently saw the planned city in the desert called The Line and that looks like a planned dystopia to me but I guess some people want to live there. Again as long as it's just one type of voluntary option. On a creepy aside, the ad I got with this video was for bespoke underground luxury bunkers for rich people to ride out the apocalypse in style and opulence.
At first I was reminded of videos I've seen of Soviet apartment buildings. I can only imagine, especially during the winter when you don't get any sun at all for months, how depressing this could get.
I've seen all your videos but was worried you had stopped posting, I imagine it must take you some time just to get out one video so now I understand why it takes you so long. Love your content and adventures!
Me and my husband visited Whittier on 29th or 30th September 2023. It's a tiny city with all ships docked, we did glacier jet skiing. It was amazing!! I loved the whole feel of this city. We turned out to be the last ones to do the jet skiing before they closed for the season. It was sunny - the day we did the tour, apparently the following day was supposed to be the last day for the season, but due to bad weather, they had to cancel. I consider myself extremely lucky to visit this town and the Glaciers.
I've heard about this place and wondered what it's like on the inside. Thank you for the tour. Now if some Alaskan can please send some of that snow to me in South Africa 😅
I wish I was an American, I would have went there and lived my entire life there with a handful of people in a small remote location .. seems so adventorous.

I've researched a lot about Whittier. Thank you for doing a video on it. What I have learned is most of the People are very content there. Basically this is no different than a Rancher in the lower 48 having 1,000 acres totally cut off from civilization. I think if you are comfortable being away from Society you are comfortable with yourself. The issue I have is if you are unhealthy or have a serious disease and there is a dire emergency, you are pretty much screwed, unless they have a helicopter get you to Anchorage.I wondered as well what if a Pregnant women has an emergency. It takes a special breed to live there, and I think they like being cut off from the World. I wouldn't mind going to see it.
I would need regular access to a pool and dance classes. They do have an indoor pool I could use, but no ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, yoga etc. dance classes. I could walk up and down the hallways for lots and lots of exercise, but I really need my pool and dance classes.
no real pharmacy either. etc meds are not as valuable as (for me) eyedrops medicine I use nightly to control glaucoma which I have, and I can imagine statins for those with heart problems. I can go on. but as an introvert, this is up my alley...
@@classic-superette I would like this life if I knew I wouldn't have an emergency. Like what does one do if they fell and broke their leg at 2:00 A.M. Call the Police dept and they call in a helicopter to take them to Anchorage? And if a Medical Helicopter comes is $1,000.00's of dollars! ~

It's a tiny beautiful place with mini waterfalls running down the mountains ❤️
Idk what went through my mind but listen. Imagine a scenario where there is one zombie-infected person which hasn't turned to zombie yet, going inside the building. A few hours after that, there is a raging snow storm outside isolating the residents in the building. I think it'll be an interesting movie if there is one such a kind.
Yeah they definitely need to do that. The apartment building I used to live in was for elderly and disabled and had all good people but then the manager was way to nice and well I guess you can’t discriminate but a lot of druggies got rented to now and I’ve heard it’s not that good or safe anymore... but I guess they would’ve had to been over 65 or drawing disability in some way
We did a glacier tour out of Whittier. It is such a neat place. A small hotel. B&B, a couple of restaurants. Kayaking and canoes rentals. A neat little town.
This would be a good concept for retirees or those who have budgetary constraints... Build a building or a building complex to house the whole town in... I bet it'll be a cheap and affordable "rent to own" system for people who like to live this way....all in_no need to go outside.
I think as housing becomes scarce and there are environmental concerns, you will see more of these building concepts. We even have the tech to have indoor greenhouses right in a building.
An average of minus five in winter is pretty good, I thought it would be much colder considering the location. Here in Toronto if we experienced minus five average during our winter season, we would be dancing with joy lol.
Often times when the 13 button is missing in the elevator there actually is a 13th floor but it's used for utility equipment so there's no button in the elevator for regular people who don't need access to that floor.
most buildings all over the usa have no 13th floor, very common--or the number 13 as your apt number--there is a 13th floor but they skip the number, call it the 14th or 12
imagine the daily gossip there, if you do anything wrong or something, everyone will know, it’ll be like: you know martha hasn’t bought anything for two weeks, maybe they don’t have money or i saw john getting off on 15th floor door 28 but his wife is at 9th floor door 20 😅 literally everyone knows everyone
This is actually a great idea! 👍 the building i live in, in downtown Boston has helpful staff, food donations, game nights, dinners, a theater on the 2nd floor. I would not like to live here. But I think there's something beautiful about this community living and working together. Helping each other out. Really cool to see.
Good to see you again Ruhi
Thank you for this video! You did a great job, Thank you for coming into our home and screening some of our views as residents of the Building x although your info isn’t 100 percent , everything else seems like the best view from an outsider! Great Job!
What a brilliant idea for an isolated area. It would be nice to be there during a disaster.
Where are you from?
@@mdgolamkibria1185😂
Most apartment buildings in Singapore are like this. Restaurants, grocery stores, variois shops on the first few floors, and apartments above. Some people who work in those shops live above, so their commute is literally an elevator ride. It's convineant, saves space, and beneficial for the enviroment
Im from Alaska and Whittier doesn't look like that. It's truly not just in the middle of nowhere...it's only like 2 hours from anchorage and there is a lot of other buildings in the area. It's a place a lot of people go to for fishing during the summer.
Thanks!!!👍 I like the truth.
God Bless from the Netherlands
This video is definitely misleading.. thanks for letting us know
Wow, this concept of a whole town in one building is simply amazing!
@@chrisrandall2710 I’m sure that comment was sarcasm, at least for human mankind I hope so 😂
next time I want a country inside building
As an introvert, this video alone gave me a panic attack. Im now planning my move int a secluded solitary cabin far, far away from everyone
videos come a little late, but they come very solid, their content is also pretty good
My daughter and her husband went there during their honeymoon. Couldn’t stop talking about the town
Amazing! I love the diversity among the community.
At first I was reminded of videos I've seen of Soviet apartment buildings. I can only imagine, especially during the winter when you don't get any sun at all for months, how depressing this could get.
I love this. I would love to live here where everything is in one place.
*Ruhi* always comes late...😮
But with a greatest discovery video....❤❤
I've seen all your videos but was worried you had stopped posting, I imagine it must take you some time just to get out one video so now I understand why it takes you so long.
Love your content and adventures!
I've been here! That tunnel was a trip. Alaska was amazing, hope to go back again
*RUNI CHENET IS LIVING LEGEND*
This place is beautiful for me and this place is absolutely heaven for a introvert person like me!!!!
Finally! Waited for so long for a new episode! :D Love your channel!
All the people there looks very kind 😢❤
I went there and loved the catamaran and also the souvenir lady on the beach who told me, "the world comes to me". Cool place.
Another fascinating documentry. Thank you.
Imagine not getting a long with someone in that building tho.
@@car1it05WAY lol.. so true. Then I will find my small little room comfortable and cozy knowing there's wild bears and snow outside with subzero temperature. I will go to the bar on my own have some drinks and retreat back to my room, seems like a fun adventure to me.
Seems the opposite of adventurous.
americas absolutely horrible 😂😂😂
Imagine the gossip lol. I’d LOVE to see a whole documentary on this. So interesting.
Aside from the long one way tunnel--It looks cozy and everyone seems friendly.
That would be my main concern about living there - having a medical emergency with no quick access to medical care.
no real pharmacy either. etc meds are not as valuable as (for me) eyedrops medicine I use nightly to control glaucoma which I have, and I can imagine statins for those with heart problems.
can't lie i'd love to live like this
probably you'll get bored after 5 or 6 months
@melih çeliktaş exactly. It would feel like being trapped. If you were from there and didn't know anything else it might be alright. But I definitely wouldn't wanna live there full-time.
@@jeremiahallyn4603 I agree with u 100%,
Literally go be a waiter on any cruise ship, that should do it
@@LogsMaggot I really want to experience that, where are the applications?
Very interesting video, like only Mr. Ruhi always can create. Really good work, thank you so much!
Not sure if this was covered in the vid but a lot of people in AK still use a lot of physical media (DVDs, CDs, PS games etc) bc internet connection is so unreliable.
I would go crazy without feeling fresh air on my face.
If you like the idea of everyone living in one place, you might enjoy the fictional novel called Wool, where everyone lives in a silo because no one can go outside anymore.
Author pls
It's like Silo tv series right?
@@jemey5377 I don’t know about that. It could have been.

Hey , your content is really different and good 😊 keep going
Thank you for this video! I never knew this. Very interesting to watch and love the community. They are united despite of their cultural differences. Filipinos are everywhere! We can adapt easily.
how they got there hehehe
Great content Ruhi, keep up the great work! Looking forward to all new content 🗺🌐
Wonderful city, as a semi-hiki I cannot imagine how cool it is to live your life to the fullest without going outside XD
I visited Whittier Alaska
Such a beautiful tiny place and a great train and ferry ride❤
really how was your experience there
@@haiderkhanali9555 it was awesome I had lunch did some hiking and waited at the train depot for a few hours for the train to take me to Anchorage to catch my flight back to the lower 48 states. I caught the ferry from Valdez into Whittier and it was a beautiful ride even seen some sea lions and Whales. You gotta visit sometime. It's a tiny beautiful place with mini waterfalls running down the mountains ❤️
wow congratulations
@Dionne Denise are you a American?
@@haiderkhanali9555 yes
Idk what went through my mind but listen. Imagine a scenario where there is one zombie-infected person which hasn't turned to zombie yet, going inside the building. A few hours after that, there is a raging snow storm outside isolating the residents in the building. I think it'll be an interesting movie if there is one such a kind.
Kinda like quarantine
Alright, time to write on paper❤ I'd watch it
You watch too much television 😂
From Dusk Till Dawn
What a GREAT idea for a small town. However, I hope that the city does background checks. Otherwise, it could be dangerous. 😳
Yeah they definitely need to do that. The apartment building I used to live in was for elderly and disabled and had all good people but then the manager was way to nice and well I guess you can’t discriminate but a lot of druggies got rented to now and I’ve heard it’s not that good or safe anymore... but I guess they would’ve had to been over 65 or drawing disability in some way
Whats crazy is places like saint Petersburg has buildings like these lined up all over the place. Hundreds
We did a glacier tour out of Whittier. It is such a neat place. A small hotel. B&B, a couple of restaurants. Kayaking and canoes rentals. A neat little town.
Ruhi, always comes with a unique history that one always misses!❤ 🫡
This would be a good concept for retirees or those who have budgetary constraints... Build a building or a building complex to house the whole town in... I bet it'll be a cheap and affordable "rent to own" system for people who like to live this way....all in_no need to go outside.
It's like this in a lot of assisted living places. They have a salon, movie theater, shops, restaurant etc.
I think as housing becomes scarce and there are environmental concerns, you will see more of these building concepts. We even have the tech to have indoor greenhouses right in a building.
I've been to Whittier many times. The building is kind of creepy looking from the outside. The glacier cruise's from the port is a great experience.
An average of minus five in winter is pretty good, I thought it would be much colder considering the location. Here in Toronto if we experienced minus five average during our winter season, we would be dancing with joy lol.
Often times when the 13 button is missing in the elevator there actually is a 13th floor but it's used for utility equipment so there's no button in the elevator for regular people who don't need access to that floor.
most buildings all over the usa have no 13th floor, very common--or the number 13 as your apt number--there is a 13th floor but they skip the number, call it the 14th or 12
But the Church was in unit 113. 😂
I would like to live on a 13th floor because 1+3=4... yes. It makes no sense the same as the number by itself.
No it's due to superstitious witchcraft nonsense. Anxiety and phobia over the number 13
imagine the daily gossip there, if you do anything wrong or something, everyone will know, it’ll be like: you know martha hasn’t bought anything for two weeks, maybe they don’t have money or i saw john getting off on 15th floor door 28 but his wife is at 9th floor door 20 😅
literally everyone knows everyone
This is actually a great idea! 👍 the building i live in, in downtown Boston has helpful staff, food donations, game nights, dinners, a theater on the 2nd floor. Its really cool and we all have stuff to do and dont have to go anywhere. Its for the disabled. I wish we had a grocery store here.
This is great so people are safe from the very harsh winters. ❤❤❤
