Jimmy Stewart was one of the greatest actors to ever live. He always played the moral everyman role to perfection, from the 30's all the way to his final role in 1991. And his voice is one of the most iconic ones in Hollywood history. The number of times people have replicated it can't be counted.
This list should have been a top 15. I can’t believe Laurence Olivier and Gregory Peck were honorable mentions and Sidney Poitier was not even on the list. 😢 At least everyone on the list starred in some of the best performances of that era.
Good list! If you do a top 20 list, please include Kirk Douglas, Basil Rathbone, Vincent Price and Errol Flynn! Also, if you do a list of underrated classic Hollywood actors, please include James Mason!
You also missed the part where they said the list was "The golden age of Hollywood" Poiteir and Newman were 1950's , Holden also had his best pictures in the 50's and 60's.
Let’s give it up for some of the international men: Charles Boyer, Valentino, Alain Delon, Omar Sharif, Marcello Mastroianni, Jean Paul Belmondo, Maximillian Schell, Louis Jourdan
THANK you. Great choices and articulate reasons… But leaving out James Cagney is frankly… Weird and excusable. Let’s face it, no less than Orson Welles called him “the finest ever to face a Camera. “. So …. - Also… You’re only putting Humphrey Bogart in “honorable mention?” Hmm ….
Speaking of Charlie Chaplin only being an honorable mention on this list, do a top 10 classic silent film actors and another one for top 10 silent film actresses. I see a lot of potential on this topic!
So many left off this list: Carney, Newman Wayne and what about James Dean... an actor with only 3 movies but all 3 were great performances . I think that warrants at least an honorable mention
When I was younger and would act out movie scenes by myself looking in the mirror or whatever, 90% of the time I was always Lauren Bacall, and of course my leading man was Humphrey Bogart. And you guys are right, there's just something about him. James Stewart was always a favorite of mine too
WOW!!! This was a hard to list to comprise. This should have been a top 20 list instead. There are way too many great actors from this era, in my humble opinion. My personal favorite, Jimmy Stewart. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
see..thats the point..my personal favorite as opposed to the best...example? Claude Rains...is easily the equal to most of these actors...no one even mentions him
I'm very interested in the Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire biopics coming soon with Tom Holland and Chris Evans playing them respectively as they can expand outside of the Marvel brand.
@@agustinprystupa280Both Astaire and Kelly made will/statements about not making a biopic. But they are probably gonna fictionalise it. Back in the day they didn’t knew that biopic can be such a succes and real Omache to a person. Really curious what Evans and Holland are going to do. Also Jamie Bell will also play Fred in a biopic about him and Ginger Rogers
Astaire & Kelly's genius lay elsewhere. Charles Laughton had the most expansive range & James Cagney's fizzing dynamism was startling to behold. Totally ridiculous list without those two...
Sidney Poitier, John Wayne, Jack Lemmon or Gary cooper didn’t make the cut? I love all the stars on the list, just too bad they can’t include all of them!!! 🌟
I missed Orson Wells, Charles Laughton, Paul Newman, Mel Ferrer, James Cagney, Charles Boyer, Gary Cooper, Anthony Quinn, Glenn Ford, Sidney Poitier, Tony Curtis.....
Love me some gene Kelly. Had the biggest crush on him wen I was a kid lol! I watched singing in the rain for the 1st time in 1994, I was 5 n I fell in love lol x
These are all great picks but so many are missing. James Cagney, Edward G. Robinson, George Raft, Gary Cooper, John Wayne just to name a few. But a good video. 😊
Isn't Laurence Olivier considered one the greatest actors of the 20th Century--as opposed to just and honourable mention? I think Oscar winner Gary Cooper is missing from the top ten as well.
these lists mean nothing...yes critics would choose other actors but doesn't it boil down to who you like? ask a 25-year-old who their favorite actors are and they wouldn't even have heard of 90% of these guys...and yes..Olivier was certainly one of the greatest actors ever
I really don’t understand the appeal of Gary Cooper. I don’t think he was a very good actor, in spite of the fact that he won an Oscar. He always sounded rather wooden to me.
My top 10: 1) Humphrey Bogart 2) James Stewart 3) Marlon Brando 4) John Wayne 5) Kirk Douglas 6) Robert Mitchum 7) Gary Cooper 8) Henry Fonda 9) Spencer Tracy 10) Cary Grant Honorable mentions: Gregory Peck Burt Lancaster Charlton Heston Paul Newman Edward G. Robinson
John Wayne is an American icon and never gets the credit for how great of an actor he was. Fonda, Gable, Tracy, Grant Stewart & Bogart all deserve to be on the list. I also have gained a lot of respect for Errol Flynn. He was an incredible actor and screen presence. Cagney & Holden would be in the top 10 as well.
My 10 Favorite Character/Actors/Creators.... Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, Paul Newman, Randolph Scott, Gary Cooper, Robert Mitchum, Richard Widmark, Burt Lancaster, Lee Van Cleef, Steve McQueen.... Hon Mention, Errol Flynn, Gregory Peck, Harrison Ford.
PS. So glad that so many of us have agreed about James Cagney. He has been my favorite for so many decades …. Unparalleled, if you ask me. Also one heck of a brilliant dancer. - Be well, all… Great list here, don’t get me wrong… It’s just… Well… “You dirty rats - “I hate your guts! Lol 😊. ❤ PS. Cagney, Robinson, and Cooper should no doubt have been mentioned. Stewart is my all-time favorite, and Bogey was fantastic. I'm glad Astaire is on the list.
You shouldn’t forget about Bogart’s work as a greedy and paranoid prospector in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, or as an uneducated but romantic and adventurous boatman in The African Queen either.
As the list kept going, I was like, "Where the hell is Humphrey Bogart?" and then when he showed up in the perfect spot, I exclaimed, "Yeah, baby!" out loud. Bogie was the best.
James Dean had a pormising career if it hasn't been a car accident that took his short life but he would the greatest legends than Paul Newman,Robert Redford,Marlon Brando,Burt Reynolds,Frank Sinatra,Warren Beatty,Elvis Persley,Burt Reynolds and Clint Eastwood he would out-shine them all.

Most of these actors in classic films passed away 😢
I can't pick just one! But if I absolutely had to, I would say either Clark Gable, James Stewart, or Gene Kelly.
So Laurence Olivier is the top actor on another list, but this one he doesn't even make the list.
Humphrey Bogart
Where is John Wayne and Gary Cooper?
Jimmy Stewart was one of the greatest actors to ever live. He always played the moral everyman role to perfection, from the 30's all the way to his final role in 1991. And his voice is one of the most iconic ones in Hollywood history. The number of times people have replicated it can't be counted.
👍🏼
I loved him too. So tired of all the anti-heroes. He was an icon.
Jack Lemmon too
Cary Grant and Marlon Brando are my absolute favorite classic actors. But I will say that Gene Kelly knew how to cut a rug with those moves!
This list should have been a top 15. I can’t believe Laurence Olivier and Gregory Peck were honorable mentions and Sidney Poitier was not even on the list. 😢
At least everyone on the list starred in some of the best performances of that era.
All 3 should have been in the top 10.Would have thrown George Sanders and Alec Guiness in as well.
Good list! If you do a top 20 list, please include Kirk Douglas, Basil Rathbone, Vincent Price and Errol Flynn! Also, if you do a list of underrated classic Hollywood actors, please include James Mason!
Also: Anthony Quinn, Rod Steiger, & don't forget Sidney Poitier, "They Call Me Mr. Tibbs", although my favorite Poitier movie is "A Patch Of Blue".
@@dee_dee_place Of course, my bad! Can't leave them out, especially Poitier! Thanks.
@@celticpoet21 No problem.
Yup… Not to mention Richard Burton. But as I said above… Leaving out James Cagney especially… Egregious! ❤
Seeing Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly on this list. Love their work in Musicals.
both men are not among the best actors in film..by a long shot....but...lists are about personal favorites...right?
LOVINGGGG these classic Hollywood lists recently! 🥰🥰🥰
Great list, but i miss Paul Newman, William Holden, Sidney Poitier, Gary Cooper.
I liked the movie Picnic with William Holden. Especially when he made a appearance on I Love Lucy.
Yes! William Holden for sure. LOVE Poitier and Newman, but maybe they were left off because they kind of straddled the classic and new wave eras.
You also missed the part where they said the list was "The golden age of Hollywood" Poiteir and Newman were 1950's , Holden also had his best pictures in the 50's and 60's.
I’m so glad you included Gene Kelly! He was brilliant and I don’t think he gets enough credit. My favorite!
Love these Old Hollywood videos...Good Job Ms.Mojo I agree with lot of the people on this list
Tony Curtis needs to be on this list, he was so much fun in comedy movies and extremely captivating in dramatic ones too, he is very overlooked.
Sidney Poitier & William Powell, amazing actors!!❤
Let’s give it up for some of the international men: Charles Boyer, Valentino, Alain Delon, Omar Sharif, Marcello Mastroianni, Jean Paul Belmondo, Maximillian Schell, Louis Jourdan
Jean Gabin
James Cagney and Kirk Douglas were missed on your list.
Especially Cagney. I don't see how any such list could fail to include him.
@@kelleyceccato7025 When I saw the video title, I started thinking they better include James Cagney, but wasn't surprised Cagey wasn't.

@@virghammer1 Bogart was no. 1. I disagree. He always played himself. I don't think he should be on this list.
James cagney for sure should be on this list without a doubt..Edward g Robinson as well. Honorable mentions was chaplin. He should have been in top 5.
Henry fonda was truly a gifted actor of his generation 💯
James Cagney, Gary Cooper, Kirk Douglas
Cagney for sure
Speaking of Charlie Chaplin only being an honorable mention on this list, do a top 10 classic silent film actors and another one for top 10 silent film actresses. I see a lot of potential on this topic!
Chaplin should have been above most of these.
And the funniest man I've ever seen, Buster Keaton. Laughton was also a great comedian, he could do broad and subtle both.
Yaa a ripoff chaplin should be in top 5
Great list, just missing William Holden.
Here are some I would add to the list:
1) Claude Rains
2) Boris Karloff
3) James Cagney
4) Frank Sinatra
5) Kirk Douglas
6) Ronald Colman
Yaa James cagney for sure
Every one on this list is an icon, even long after their deaths
So many left off this list: Carney, Newman Wayne and what about James Dean... an actor with only 3 movies but all 3 were great performances . I think that warrants at least an honorable mention
Yes I agree on cagney and wayne
Tied for 1st place: Gregory Peck & Jimmy Stewart.

Sucks we don't get actors like them anymore
My top 5 are on this list.
1. Gene Kelly
2. Jimmy Stewart
3. Henry Fonda
4. Humphrey Bogart
5. Cary Grant
WOW!!! This was a hard to list to comprise. This should have been a top 20 list instead. There are way too many great actors from this era, in my humble opinion. My personal favorite, Jimmy Stewart. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Ryan Gosling as Fred Astaire, Colin Farrel as Cary Grant and Chris Evan as Gene Kelly...both have gay face.
I think Gregory Peck, Burt Lancaster and Montgomery Clift deserved more than honorable mention.
Agreed, especially Gregory Peck. He was one of the first big activist actors.
I believe Spencer Tracy was the most talented and natural actors of the 20th century. He made it look easy!
I cry every time I watch his performance in Captains courageous. One of my favorite movies.
Yes for sure.tracy was great in captain courageous
Very surprised to not see James Cagney on this list
U r so right
You forgot Sidney Poitier
The Roles Sidney Poitier got were far and in between for a man of color during that period! But every role he had was incredible acting!
Yaa sydney poitier should be considered
Cary Grant's my favorite. Especially in Arsenic and Old Lace and Monkey Business.
Astaire & Kelly's genius lay elsewhere. Charles Laughton had the most expansive range & James Cagney's fizzing dynamism was startling to behold. Totally ridiculous list without those two...
Hooray! At last, s.o. with brains! Astaire and Kelly were dancers.
Sidney Poitier, John Wayne, Jack Lemmon or Gary cooper didn’t make the cut? I love all the stars on the list, just too bad they can’t include all of them!!! 🌟
Wayne and Cooper were basically one trick ponies with a very limited range.
Walter Matthau! Another brilliant actor in his day.
My Personal List Only a Top 5
1 Spencer tracy
2 Laurence Olivier
3 Cary Grant
4 Clarke Gable
5 Marlon Brando
Also Paul Newman, Errol Flynn, John Barrymore
Robert mitchum was a brilliant actor loved him in out of the past
I missed Orson Wells, Charles Laughton, Paul Newman, Mel Ferrer, James Cagney, Charles Boyer, Gary Cooper, Anthony Quinn, Glenn Ford, Sidney Poitier, Tony Curtis.....
Kirk Douglas? His performance in"Ace In The Hole" is sublime (among many others).
Love me some gene Kelly. Had the biggest crush on him wen I was a kid lol! I watched singing in the rain for the 1st time in 1994, I was 5 n I fell in love lol x
Charlton Heston
When I saw this list I thought - What! no James Cagney? Then I read the comments and nearly every second one says "Where the hell is James Cagney?"
One of the best aspects of these films is the dialogue - those sardonic one liners hit true every time, especially from Robert Mitchum.
This channel has the most amazing content there is. We wish them all the best.
Thank you!
Excellent list of "greatest" actors.
Should be entitled “10 of notable top 100 greatest actors”. They used a dart board and blindfold on this one. But Brando yes.
Hi Kirsten have a wonderful weekend and love your voice 😍
I love Gene Kelly he was the best ❤❤
Charlton Heston should’ve gotten an honorable mention
These are all great picks but so many are missing. James Cagney, Edward G. Robinson, George Raft, Gary Cooper, John Wayne just to name a few. But a good video. 😊

Marlon Brando revolutionized acting - and that’s the difference.

John Wayne!! Van Johnson!! Joseph Cotton!! Bing Crosby!! Danny Kaye…some of my faves that didn’t make this list…y’all need to do a part 2

Buster Keaton was the funniest comic ever.
They are missing:
Richard Burton - 7 Oscar-nominated
Peter O' Toole - 7 Oscar-nominated
Paul Newman - 9 Oscar-nominated / Won 1 Oscar
It's so sad that James Cagney Edward G Robinson Gary Cooper Joel McCrea Fred MacMurray didn't make it but I'm happy Bogie it's number 1

Good list of actors considered leading actors, how about lists of 'character' actors?
Where is Christopher Plummer Rock Hudson , Kurt Douglas, James dean ?
Kirk
James Dean? Yes,he died young. But He was great.

Errol flynn
James.cagney
Laurel and hardy
Just a few for another list
Clark Gable. Clark Gable. Clark Gable
It's deplorable that Gary Cooper is not on the list.
Though not a leading man, Peter Lorre deserves at least an honorable mention.
Yes. I had a parrot that died at age 50 yrs, who was named Lorre Péter.
Robert Mitchum, Cary Grant, James Stewart, Gregery Peck, Charlie Chaplin, and Humphrey Bogart are some of my favorite actors from this list...although i like marlon brando too. I also absolutely LOVE Petter Lorre and James Mason....why arnt they on the list or at least honerable Mentions?
Peter Lorre.
Great actor.
You blew it MsMojo. You didnt include James Cagney, he was one of the best

Chaplin
Brando
Bogart
Cagney
Spencer Tracey
Gregory Peck
Jimmy Stewart
Robert Mitchum
Cary Grant
Pacino. De Niro. Nicholson.
How can Charlie Chaplin & Lawrence Olivie be Not in the List, i'm Dissapointed.
What?

James Cagney and Edward G Robinson both belong on the list, well above Robert Mitchum.

Orson Wells said Cagney was the best ever and dont forget about the dynamic Mickey Rooney
