That wall should have a catch fence. As should all drag strips. That purple Datsun nearly got over it,, at about 60-100 feet. Imagine one of the heavy hitters at well over 200mph Scrutineering, all these cars losing doors and other panels. And THAT without any contact. When they crash it is usually plastic everywhere as the doors fall off followed by bonnet and boot and numerous other things.
Stick yo face out the window at 225 and tell me "no contact". This is an invitation 1 off race where rules are massaged to allow racers from different backgrounds compete against each other. Most tracks wont have funding for a catch fence. If it were a serious issue the tracks insurance will make them require it, and they will shut down. I do think that tethers should be the solution at the track level. Tethers are cost effective and can be quickly added if tech wants them. Personally i would make the window part of the door require 3 quik latches instead of 1
Wow is there no catch fence? Those doors flying look like a death or serious crowd injury just waiting. Also, I watch a lot of drag racing and I haven't seen this much carnage in a while. These guys are for real blowing or going no in between. Guys this is qualifying and your killing your cars.
@@cameronwells82 I'm well aware. They were glowing because they have less mass to heat up. What I'm saying is if you like seeing glowing brakes it's a common occurrence in night time endurance racing, that's all.
Flips are scary, but are honestly the safest thing to happen in a wreck like this. If you get caught on your roof, it's really hard to catch anything that would keep you tumbling or potentially launch you into or over a wall. That was a really gentle crash all things considered
If you watch the 1320 interview, finney said the chutes ripping off made him go sideways and he slid all the way to the sand. The video tells a different tale.
Jesus, apparently weve reached the point where talent of the builders isnt keeping up with what the average joe can afford and we end up with this type of wrecking racing.
Edwin Burgos? Is everything alright in your head? They got it right. He’s in the left lane. The car that turned over is James Finney on the right hand side
I watched the NHRA show from Las Vegas today and it was exactly like this one. Well, except for the badly prepared cars that lost body parts, parachutes, hit the wall due to basic instability and parts breakage. But, other than that? Just the same.
You are correct, NHRA has lost most of its excitement. And many fans, and 74% of viewership, and 40% of its sponsor dollars, and 12% of its members all in 15 years
Watched nearly all day from QUEENSLAND Australia definitely the worst day I ever saw for incidents and cleanups 00.45am in Maryland for the finish. 😵💫😵💫 The car on roof bad decision by the driver should have just worked the brakes carefully amd even if it reached the beach it would have had less damage.
@robwigglezz944 tbf cleetus was going 225mph no chutes on a much shorter run off and still managed to gather it up. That dude locked it up almost immediately
@skoomd4447 cleets chutes never deployed. This guy's did and probably upset the car. There is nothing fair about the situation, shit happens and it's just funny seeing comments about what people did wrong
Just my opinion but engines blowing up is incredibly dangerous, they should have to use factory engines so they don't end up killing people with that weak crap. /sarcasm This is drag racing with race cars, fiberglass doors blowing off is rarely dangerous to drivers or spectators. They catch air like a parachute and slow fairly fast before ever touching the ground.
@@Loki_Trickster As a long time road racer anything falls off and it is like you killed someone,, and ofcourse that is possible. I also play speedway and have seen plenty of parts fall off. Once hit in the chest with part of a shock. Spectators in motorsport have been injured or killed too often by flyingparts. Get a 10 kilo door in your face or chest and yes it could kill you. Drag racing is the most dangerous motorsport apart from rallying. And the more things that blow off will find the sport with no public liability insurance and without that NOTHING happens. American dirt speedway too is stupidly dangerous. And they run big money shows weekly at venues that should NEVER have a track licence. Would never get one here in Oz. A wall all the way around the track is the first requirement
I don't remember what race it was but if a part of the car came of its a automatic disqualification. People need to find a better way of making these carbon doors.
Excellent commentary…keeping the excitement high 🎉
Can’t include all the Hondas oiling the track or the video would be an hour long
Almost spit out my beer... lol
I think that Camaro flip took longer than all Hondas combined lmao
Hate everywhere you turn these days. Cant even watch the races without bigotry 🤷🏼♂️
LONGER!!!!
But those Honda's prolly smoke anything OP has.
Crazy how many doors got blown off at this race already. Lol
I loved this event!! I’ll defo attend more of them
Great coverage, thanks.

Hell yeah brother
That was quite a lot of carnage. Plus people damaging their engines and all the leaking stuff. I was not expecting that this early.
Thanks, that was great. Kia-Ora.

Nice compilation.
are you sure Cletus isn't driving those cars blowing the doors off he's been doing that a lot lately 😂
4:47 and 4:55 you could see his front brakes looking like the sun inside the wheels.
Watch the endurance races that run during the night like 12h of Sebring and 24h of Le Mans. Seeing the brakes glowing is pretty common. It's sweet!
@@SlightlyM3ntal Drag racing cars have pretty small lightweight braking systems. They were definitely not designed to get used that hard.

Wow awesome racing.
How does a chute rip off like that? I don't think I've ever seen that before.
At first I thought it ripped the strings but seems the mount came off
@bg3007 Another NPK car did it last year. Maybe Lutz? They don't ever run em out the back, so they don't ever see that kinda MPH.
AQttached with Zip ties?
Those was 1/8th mile tacks, not 1/4 mile welds

Glad james Finney is doing ok. Hate to see him wreck
Awesome video great content 👍
Were engine diapers a requirement..🤔
A lot of doors are drinking the RedBull
6.43 WHITE'RICE stickie
I was there today and i watched the clean up workers on the track more than i saw races. Worse experience of my life.
Anytime you have fast imports, expect more cleanup time than cars on track, all the time, EVERY time
@bigisle87 yeah I used to go a lot it's one reason I don't go as much. Just watch it online later. Lol
I’m here from the other channel. You gonna be doing this tomorrow?

Burgos was in the right lane not the left you have to look at it from behind the car as in real life view not the tv view.

Jesus is this wreck fest World Cup?
Lot of water money today. That's why it's called racing and not winning. Back at it tomorrow, if you have the parts
would love to watch the live stream but I ain't paying $40 to watch a bunch of imports oil down the track

Ok Capitan Hindsight. It only took a millisecond to get out of shape going that fast after the chutes broke.

Something tells me you need a new suspension guy if you wheelie like that, and have shirts made of you wheelieing like that in the past
Only showing wrecks and cleetus is not exactly a recap of the days events
It’s not a recap, it’s the highlights, 2 different things
If you want a recap, it was 37 hondas blowing up and oiling down the track, followed by lots of track clean up, a couple wrecks, and cleetus.
