Orcs in Tolkien are elves that were tortured and enslaved to be twisted and evil and after years of breeding them this way they lost all humanity and are nothing but a slave race that want to fight
The Orcs in two towers he was talking about were not Orc. They are Oruk-Hai who were unnaturally made by Saruman to build Sauron’s army and those ones are like normal Orcs if they took steroids and didnt need to eat or sleep unlike normal Orcs who still need to eat and sleep. This is shown in Two Towers when the Oruk-Hai with Marry and Pippin are running day and night along with the Orcs from Mordor and the Orcs keep complaining about being hungry
If they wanted to humanize the orcs they probably should’ve shown them early on in them being tortured when they started as elves that are being beaten and enslaved and tortured into losing all care and wanting nothing but to kill instead of showing them already being orcs and some how still having that humanity

@@namecomingsoon9517 Warner Bros. very surgically sold elements from Tolkien lore to Amazon, but keeping enough that if they decide to make their own again, they can. Amazon assumed that they could gather enough audience even with an incomplete homunculus, and even if it fails worse, they could collect on insurance. And considering how disastrously Warner's attempt with the Hobbit trilogy went, I suspect they are biding their time to let their rival burn out.
I have a conspiracy theory that Warner basically pulled a New Coke - you know, when Coca-Cola released New Coke that everyone hated, so when Classic Coke came back, they made a killing.

The top things i heard from this season
1: this i will defend. There were people mad that one of the elves had a beard cause elves age so slow over thousands of years that they usually end up dying in middle earth before they grow facial hair. People were mad that it broke the lore. But it doesnt. The elf is named Círdan and he is a character Tolkien made and mentions in Return of the King. He is one of if not the oldest elf in middle earth shown through him having a beard
Second: i will not defend that when making this series they apparently fired one of their tolkien lore experts. The reason was, he was hired to veto things they wanted to do if it broke the lore of Tolkien’s works. He said no to a lot of the things they wanted to do so they decided to fire him so they can do that stuff. They fired basically the only Tolkien expert that actually was doing his job of keeping lore right. This just frustrates me as when the series started they had lore experts being interviewed saying “it’s fine they are changing the lore” then fired the one guy who was trying to keep the lore safe

I disagree because of the premise of "insult to Tolkien." What I consider it is the ultimate insult to George R.R. Martin (not counting seasons 7-8 of GoT, but I digress). Why I think it is an insult to Martin is because despite the names and terminologies, Rings of Power is NOT a Middle-earth series - it is a discount Game of Thrones. It lacks the bewbs, gore, and the swearing, but RoP is very much an attempt to rip off Game of Thrones, while using the veil of the Lord of the Rings IP to exploit nostalgic interest. On that island, it felt like watching Cersei argue with Ed Stark again, but after serious brain damage and high intoxication.

It's really not that bad (so far). There are definitely awkward elements, but I am enjoying it more than Season 1. They've been focusing much more on Celebrimbor, Sauron, and the Rings (which is where the focus should have been all along), rather than on Harfoots and Southlanders. They also found a good actor to play Cirdan.

If they wanted to do something like this, they shouldn’t have connect it to Tolkien. Even fanfiction respects the characters to a degree. Good fanfiction anyway. This spawned from the desire to create the next Game of Thrones, slapping Tolkien name on it, in hopes to get the fame and riches. GoT will probably remain the best of fantasy shows for years to come. It became its own thing with great writing, acting, plot etc. That is how to make a show, not this hastily slapped together abomination hoping to profit from Tolkien’s name. I have never seen Game of Thrones and do not plan to. But I still know this because of the reactions of people around me who did. Horrified, horny, shocked, disgusted, amused, happy, excited, amazed, in short entertained people. This show inspires none of that.

I can’t watch season 2 because I don’t want to give Amazon “time” either. Season 1 was, to me, one of the worst season of American television I’ve ever seen for the budget it had. Some will be eager to put the blame on its failure on toxic fans, but in reality bad writing is bad writing. That’s it. We’ve been in a weird era for a while now (we still are but studios are paying the price now so I hope it’s the beginning of the end) where we had to accept anything in entertainment without ever criticizing it. More and more big budget projects (the MCU, Star Wars and many others) became really badly written and directed over the last 6-8 years and RoP is the worst, personally speaking. This series could’ve been one of the greatest of all time, but the writing is not better than any afternoons soap operas. It’s mind boggling to me haha

I remember when I used to care about lore and canon and whatever for fictional series, but I also think that I was stupid when I did. It’s fiction. If it doesn’t follow someone’s idea of “canon” they don’t have to let it affect that, “canon” is whatever works best for you. It’s fiction.
One of the things that turned me around in my thinking about that kind of stuff is reactions like some of the ones that have been around this series since the beginning. Star Wars fans also have this problem. Getting so mad about a fictional series that you’re willing to b**ch and whine and moan all over the internet over such stupid things. It sounds dumb, it will always sound dumb. Critiquing things is one thing, but what happens to things like this is a whole different thing. It’s malicious, it’s petty, it’s mean-spirited (especially when they bully people like certain Star Wars fans LOVE doing), it’s potentially racist and/or sexist (a lot of that going on with some of the whining about this series from some people). It’s just annoying.
I guess my complaint boils down to fandoms and how toxic they can be. They’re the ones that care SO MUCH about what they think “lore” is and whatnot.

  • @ericb9252
    @ericb9252 13 дней назад +1

Humanizing the orcs I think is Rings of Power’s best addition to Tolkien lore. I can understand why people would hate it, given Tolkiens more intentional black and white morality - but taking ROP on its own terms, it’s a great addition.
You can 100% say you don't like the idea or you don't think it works using Tolkeins writings for that idea or critique how it was done. But to say that you can never comment upon Tolkien, or to do so is tantamount to saying he's WRONG or VANDALISM is just silly.
Rings of Power isn't saying Tolkein is wrong for writing that. It's using his work as a basis to comment upon our tendency to cast cultures as all evil or good. It's not saying Tolkien is BAD; it's building upon his framework for a new idea in a new work of art.
Some people really just want to believe certain races are irredeemably evil and cannot have any good in them, and find ways to justify that belief through arguments of “canon”.

And it's people like you that ruin whats already good, the more you defend the bs Hollywood and other companies shove down your throat, the more they know that they'll get away with because you'll let them.
And also, i guess ADAPTATION has just lost ALL meaning. Because last time i checked, an adaptation is meant to ADAPT a story. And no, do NOT use the movies as an example of deviating or doing something different from the books. For one, they are MOVIES, not a TV show, but a movie. I mean, you might not know thos but, there is much less that you can fit into a movie, rather than a TV show. Good fuck, a landmine of so many good possibilities thamey could choose, but they completely squandered it ugh 🙄. And secondly, the movies still kept the spirit of what Tolkien's work was about. Just look at the interviews and compare them to thet atrocious show, and thats all you need.
I really don't like how a person or a company can just alter an authors work the absolute WORST way possible, and people can still in some way shape or form, defend it. Just actual trash

@@NegaWarheadyeah even in the films they still changed parts of the story but that was due to time and what they were capable of. And some things they did add in i think made them better like actually getting to see Boromir defend Marry and Pippin or Aragon being portrayed as a man who is scared of becoming king out of fear of what his ancestor did and if what happened to them would fall to him as well. They even got rid of the orcs ransacking the Shire in favor of just having Frodo see a vision of what COULD happen to the Shire if they fail. You still get that tension for the Shire
But even then, they had majority of the cast have books on hand to be sure they knew what they were doing in the scenes and how their characters should be acting. Cut to now you get adaptations like Witcher that wanted to add more comedy and levity to the darker parts of the story. Halo and the upcoming Yakuza adaptation bragging about how they aren’t gonna look at the games to help adapt them (if you didnt know, the people making the Yakuza game tv show adaptation stated that they told the actors to not play the games so they can make the characters their own instead of trying the adapt the characters personalities)
