That’s funny, I would say the opposite. I like both but just on flavor I prefer Black Irish X. It’s harder to prepare and keep lit though so I don’t smoke it as often.
Good morning Brian. I loved your opening of the video. I’m from Pa and seeing those doe reminded me of opening day of buck season. I would see doe all over the place like in your video. But damn if a buck would be in the group. Family has a farm in Huntington County was my grandfather’s, dad’s. Last time I went hunting was 1997. I’m in Vegas now and it’s a lottery (kind of) to get a tag for a deer or sheep. Today we will hit the 80’s for the first time this year and possibly the low 90’s on Monday. Cheers 🥃
Good morning, Happy Saturday Easter weekend my friend. This tobacco seems readily available, I just may have to try it. What a nice looking day there. I'm happy we are hitting the 60's here this coming week. Still a ways off from fishing opener. I did register the boat and buy my fishing license. Dunhill is looking fine. Have a good one.
Good morning Frank I can’t wait I just bought a Helix 7 fish finder yesterday with the mega down and mega side view it was pricey but should be a great edition to the toon
Happy Easter, my friend! You and the nicotine..... I will buy a bit of the Dark Birdseye now and then to punch up mild blends. Way back, I mixed it with Model, a drugstore white Burley cube mix that House of Windsor revived around 2000. That little experiment resulted in random compliments from passersby on the aroma. Not something we receive very often!
Morning Brian, this is one of my go to in the past few years. I mix it 50/50 with rayback from daughter and ryan (no longer in production sadly) to take away some of the moisture and add some dark fired to the mix (same sample i sent you) quite the nicotine buzz late at night. Enjoy the weekend and happy easter
I only started pipe smoking at the beginning of this year, but of the 30 or so blends I’ve tried, this is my favorite so far. (My wife has been remarkably tolerant.) The taste and smoke texture is luxurious. I’m not sure how much the shag cut contributes, but it burns easily as well. I’m usually dumping pure ash when I’m done.
Morning Brian! This one is in my cart lol. It's funny when I first started, I really disliked fire cured b/c I didn't care for the Drew Estate KFC and didnt want anything that tasted like that..but as my palate evolves, I've been stocking up on more blends with dark fired in them. So this one has caught my attention. I'm going to try both the shag and vintage cut. Happy Easter my friend✌️
Hi, Brian! I’ve tried birdseye, one of the first bulk blends I bought from Boswell, and I definitely enjoyed the flavor profile. BTW, tamping with your finger is about as cool a move as they come! Straight piping badassery. Happy Easter, and all the best!
Hey Brian, I have always really liked this one, sweet and smoky... Only problem is I find it can get ashy towards the bottom but that might be due to the thinner cut. Nice weather is coming, bet your itching to get out on the boat, I know I am .
Hey my friend yeah I can see what your talking about I definitely think it’s the shag cut what kind of boat do you have? I can’t wait I only got to take the new pontoon out once the end of last summer
Dark Bird’s Eye is STRONG. It gives me the hiccups if I have an empty stomach. Heart palpitations if it’s warm and I’ve been working outside, lol. This is one I have to be careful with but I love the smell and the taste.
I must be a lightweight because it seems most of the YTPC likes to smoke the intense Nic stuff … Dark this, Navy that …. I can do a medium level now and then, but I enjoy the Lakeland essence and more flavorful blends and I also love St. Bruno a few times a week. It’s not an evolution thing because I’ve been smoking a pipe this way for over 40 years - Guess that’s why they make a zillion different blends today - 40 years ago I only smoked Skandinkvik from an orange pouch - wish it was still around. Happy Easter to All 🐣
So I have some Kendall Dark and last week I was smoking some. I took trice as much out as I needed and then left for three days. It was crispy dry. So what do you do? You smoke it. It was originally kinda wet. It was immediately better bone dry. The flavors were more defined and intense. I had to be gentle on the flame and no choochin'. I'd love to hear how the Dark Bird's Eye plays out dry.
Yeah I have done that before smoked blends so dry they were crispy a lot of people think you will loose all flavor that way but my experience is not true at least what I’ve smoked
Happy Easter to you and your family. I hope you get good father and son time. I have a question, do you always smoke your first smoke with a corncob pipe and do you ever use a filter?
Thank you Happy Easter to you no I never have used filters I don’t like them, for my first ever smoke trying a new blend most of the time I’ll use a cob
I've certainly been enjoying your gawith hoggarth reviews. I don't think you've reviewed what is probably my favorite of the ones I've tried, and that would be brown twist sliced. It's confusing to me with all the ropes and stuff, but the stuff I got has a fantastic dark fired flavor and no topping. I just don't know if I have the version that is purely dark fired Virginia, or if it's the one with dark fired kentucky mixed in. Those gawith are hoggarth tobacco's are really good though. Especially the unflavored ones.
@@beans316 The plan is to retire in August and we are preparing for a Appalachian Trail thru hike for Early Spring '24. So we will be preparing for that from now till next year. We cannot wait.
One of my favourite from Gawith Hoggarth. Happy Easter, Janez
Thanks Janez right back at you have a wonderful holiday
Good vid Beans. Thanks. Happy Easter! Have a great weekend.
Back at you my friend
It truly is another Great Blend!
Yes it is very nice
Yes! Dark Birds Eye beat out Black Irish Twist for my favorite G,H blend, and in my top 3 favorite of all blends. Love it! Happy Easter!
I have to agree it is in my top of the list so far happy Easter
That’s funny, I would say the opposite. I like both but just on flavor I prefer Black Irish X.
It’s harder to prepare and keep lit though so I don’t smoke it as often.
Put up a jar of that in 2018. Need to dig it out and revisit. Have a great weekend and enjoy the Spring weather.
Thanks my friend hope you’re doing well and have a great week

Thanks my friend it’s pretty nice working outdoors getting to see all the sites , never know what we come across from day to day haha
Agree that blend is a Home Run, I have in shag cut and vintage cut (ribbon cut) love it both ways.
So far I really have been liking them all definitely good stuff for sure
Nice looking blend. I do like the shag cut. Love the opening shots. The pup is growing fast……
Thanks my friend yes he’s growing very fast he’s so tall and long already lol
Hey, Brian! Awesome! Looking forward to the video on the boat! I pray that you have a blessed and wonderful Easter weekend. God bless, brother! 🙏
Thanks my friend hope you had a great holidays weekend as we’ll definitely went to fast

@@beans316 Side imaging is real handy. On larger fish I have made out gillplates so I could see the direction it was facing.
Haven’t had Penny Farthing, but I do really like this one. But then I like just about anything with a strong dark fired presence.
It’s definitely good stuff I think Penny farthing is more sweet but still good
Happy Easter Brian! Sounds like a decent blend for sure.
Thanks my friend hope you had a great holiday weekend

Thanks for stopping by Tom yeah it’s always fun to mix up little batches of your own blend to experiment with
Happy Easter Brian. Nice intro. Always nice to see BBQ meat and jerky running past you. Cliff will be salivating !! Ya, that dog is growing.
Haha thanks for commenting have a great week

Thanks my friend great to hear from you, I really have been missing out on the G&H blends can’t believe I waited so long
Thank you for the video. Happy Easter 🐣🐰 to you and family.
Thanks my friend hope you had a great holiday weekend as well
I’ve not had this one but love 5 Brothers shag cut so will have to get a sample. Have a great one buddy!
Thanks bud boating season is here time to throw some smoke out on the lakes

Glad you found one you like take care
Thanks for sharing Brian. Happy smokes
Thanks Ken hope your doing well

Yeah my tastes have definitely changed over the years I use to love latakia now hardly ever smoke it

Baaahhhaaaa thanks my friend I always use my finger to tamp 😂😂🔥😎

Well done my friend.
Keep Em Burning
Thanks bud always burning 😂

Heart palpitations if it’s warm and I’ve been working outside, lol.

Haha yeah it’s a stronger blend but very smooth and rich

Haha don’t worry about it you smoke what you like don’t worry about people judging you
Ha ha. Great intro. Thanks for the review. Haven’t tried this one. I do like Penny Farthing though. I have a three to four year old one I should pop.
I think this one is more smooth and not as sweet as Penny Farthing
I am not sure where you are but I need to go there right now
Baaahhhaaaa I thought it was definitely a cool road name
There's a very nice creaminess to this one, kinda like Padron anniversary, it's very strong but the creaminess makes the strength enjoyable.
It definitely grows on me I need to revisit this one
Hi Brian! How would you say DBE compares to G&H Kendall Dark?
I think the Birds Eye is better but I need to revisit the Kendall , a lot of them have so much of the same similar tobacco
So I have some Kendall Dark and last week I was smoking some. I took trice as much out as I needed and then left for three days. It was crispy dry. So what do you do? You smoke it. Yeah, 80 here today. Crazy warm! Happy smokes
A strong nic hit and very tasty.
Yes have to agree with that

Yes they are very good for sure the brown twist is one I did not buy maybe when I place another order hope you had a great weekend
@@beans316 Thanks! I had a very good weekend.
Now I can see why you recommend this.
Are you planning on any hiking trips this summer?
@@beans316 The plan is to retire in August and we are preparing for a Appalachian Trail thru hike for Early Spring '24. So we will be preparing for that from now till next year. We cannot wait.
Yes, great blend indeed. Don’t think it’s like pennyfarthing though, except for the cut. Pennyfarthing is one of my least favorite tobaccos.
Haha I think Penny Farthing is more sweet
