You've got me there haha, I'm very interested in the Mongol conquests and the three kingdoms period, so I am I guess wearing my influences on my sleeve! I'm hoping to draw from European politics and socioeconomics for the later centuries which should give it a slightly different feel, but I'm mainly hoping to form a unique identity for the project more with the granular, character-level stories. This broad overview is more so for people to understand in general what's going on, and have some context for when I make more detailed vids in future :)
Thanks for watching and commenting! It's going to be a while before I explore different areas of the world in any large capacity, I have a lot more to focus on in this main region first :)
@@powerfantasychannel I respect that. A focused stand alone or solid trilogy is far more appreciated by readers than a series that goes for so long it becomes like Bilbo's soul. "A little butter spread on a large slice of bread" tasteless !
Fictional history is one of my favorite parts of worldbuilding, so I'm very excited to see where this goes. Keep it up (and don't listen to the people in the comments accusing you of "copying Chinese history", like taking real world inspiration and twisting it isn't often the basis of fantasy). Magicless fantasy is also quite underrated and underrepresented, which makes me even more interested in your world. Great stuff!
Thank you for commenting, that's very kind of you to say :) Haha, it does get a little frustrating with the constant China comparisons but I knew what I was signing up for! I'm excited to keep going, I hope you like what's to come :))
0:38 Love the use of terrain to provide a defacto barricade in the Central Plains. Very important for flat open plains to have mountains to hunker behind. Reminds me of California, Po River Valley and Kanto Plain
I agree, I'd it to transition more gradually to grassy pastures in the steppe in some areas, but overall I like the power of mountains as barriers, or at the very least defence multipliers. Thanks for mentioning those places, the Po river valley especially is very interesting, really extreme geography that I've honestly never really looked at in detail before!
Super cool man! I love the different power dynamics presented. One thing I might suggest is making the territory outlines a different colour, I found it difficult to see where some territories started and ended.
Thank you for the feedback and the kind comment :) I agree regarding the maps, in future I'll try and find a style that strikes a better balance between style and readability, apologies for it being hard to decipher
I love the map, I usually hate the real world "blatantly" ripped off maps. Broken empire trilogy (which I know is meant to be a broken earth) or the Sword of Kaigen's map which is just upside down earth. But this one is just a beauty. I specially love what you did with the (Africano - Eurasian) land mass (+ Australia) But I really, love the whole map. For the first time I see a scrambled Earth that actually works !
I LOVE IT! And also your way of narrating! Do you have a specific methodology that you use to narrate and build your world? A tutorial from you on how to do it would be great.
Thanks so much! No particular methodology honestly, not yet at least, I just write a script and then read it :) I tend to rewrite and refine a lot to try and make the information presented concise, but there's no precise science behind it
This world that you have built can become your "Cosmere" and you can write different of unconnected stories involving fictional civilizations inspired from our real world. When and if you choose to. I read the comments below, I know that for now you are mainly focusing on the War of the 3 kingdoms and the Mongol expansion.
There's a lot of stories from this main region that I want to tell before I branch out into other areas of the world, I have 500 years worth of history to go in and detail after all haha. Lots of interesting characters, wars, etc. :) If I ever manage to get to a point where I feel I've exhausted the possibilities (or just when I feel like it) I want to absolutely detail some more areas in the setting
As I get more into the smaller details of the world I'm hoping my other influences will be clearer, but yeah at the grand strategic scale I can't argue that there's pretty heavy Chinese/Mongol influence :)
In the calendar of this world's people yes, but this is set in an alternate universe, so there isn't any in-setting connection to the real world beyond the inspiration I use :)
It does exist but in a small capacity, generally as an import from abroad. The central plains have strong agricultural output and a thriving textiles culture and industry, so high quality padded armour is abundant and blacksmiths don't really have the tooling/experience to produce maille (with more research this answer might shift, for the minute these are my thoughts thoug, thanks for the question :) )
Is the voice over ai? If not, consider speaking a little slower, not just to let us process the information a little, but to create a better atmosphere and match the rest of the video as well. It'd really help in my opinion, engaging stuff otherwise.
Noted thanks :) The voiceover isn't AI it's just my voice heheh, I will consider it but I actually quite like this sort of speed. I spoke more slowly in my previous videos and I find them quite boring to watch back, I'm sure it's likely subjective thing, I'll defo take it into account though!
Thanks for commenting, I ask that you watch my next video as I'm going to go into some more detail (it's going to be a video designing soldiers, but I want to include information about the wider setting as well) It's true that at the grand scale it's inspired a lot by Chinese history and politics, but on the smaller scale it diverges in some pretty important ways. It was tough to convey that in just a 5 minute video :)
Thanks for commenting, unfortunately I don't think I'll get that far forward in history though :) I've got my work cut out focusing on the main 500 year period! Fun to speculate about though
I'll get into it more in future videos but there's a lot of ways this region takes inspiration from Europe as well, not just East Asia. I recommend watching the video I released before this, it gives more of an introduction to the setting :)
all 5 nomad empires all has chinese sounding names. no nomadic names. basically just chinese. Are you gonna make all of em unite into china as well? if that is so then thats boring. it would be like real world history all over again without any twists and turns. its far better to have some of em segmented from the rest and develop a completely different set of culture than the others etc. it would more interesting to see if Ainu like civilazation develop on their own to medieval version of Ainu etc. there is a lot of cultures and dynasties that have never had a chance to develope their own version of medieval castle age where they start to build a massive structures with their own culture etc. if its china all over again while crushing all othe other small tribes culture and mash it into single kind of culture. its no different than modern china history just repeating itself and the fictional empire would be no different than just china. forget Mongol. all the other flavour you put in will just disapear and it would just becomes china with no prior culture.
Hey dude, I'm not quite sure what you mean by nomad empires, the only entity that could be referred to as a nomad empire is the Kan Empire. If you're referring to the Five Kingdoms, they''re all breakaway states from the original Min Empire, not nomadic :) And certainly not empires by any stretch. I can assure you that this setting is and will continue to be different to real world China, there are some fundamental geographical and related societal differences that I'll hopefully get more into in future videos. This video was intended as a quick rundown of the lore, so I'd appreciate if you could give me a bit more benefit of the doubt in regards to developing it in an interesting way :))
realistic in the sense that its basically what happened in chinese history, but still those things happened for a reason so a+ worldbuilding

Him: five kingdoms era
me: when we get two extra kings in the three kingdoms era
Haha, I see the obvious parallel but I actually took more inspiration from the 16 Kingdoms period for that bit :))
Another video like this in a different region of the world would be excellent

real cool. I love how this sounds and feels like real history
Thanks for commenting! One of my aims with this setting is for it to be believable almost as real history, so that means a lot for you to say that :)
I am so impressed! Both your drawings and narrations are super cool!
Your art is beautiful
how did you make all these cool maps?? also id love a more in detail video on all the little battles at changes who owns what land.
Love it, keep on making videos
Kan empire? More like kan’t empire (get it? Because it collapsed?)
So true ( T - T) it remains forever in our hearts, and its shadow of former greatness hangs over our heads

Really interesting story. Do you have plans to expand the world further and show other regions?
