That really ilustrates Miki's story- he can't see the true face of his sister, like she's just an actress in a theatre, also the part about an always changing spiral' shows that he's scared of changes and wishes for things to be like in the past.

To me this song is also about how the roles we perform and the things that we think we want are just illusory stories told to us and which we repeat to ourselves. Sometimes we sense something is wrong (shipwreck) but we can't escape others expectations and these poorly thought out desires. It's an endless spiral, it's immortal movement, Miki tries to break out but it all comes back to his broken relationship with his sister and parents, and people like Touga encouraging him to aspire to an "alpha" masculine role that just hurts him. The Ammonite shell is the ancient past, that is long dead but encases his soul, he seeks "alchemy" to revive and resurrect that past, the shining thing, but it dies and is reborn, it can never last or stay in his grasp.
And in some sense, these lyrics also apply to Utena with her obsession with being a prince, another illusion from a dead past that doesn't bring her real freedom. The roles that way play and stories we end up believing to be true are really one of the most important themes of Utena, I think.
