Like a double shot of straight bourbon whiskey, the sounds of Black Stone Cherry will go down smooth and fire up your night when they make their Sturgis Buffalo Chip debut during the 40th anniversary music festival this August. The Edmonton, Kentucky quartet will bring their fiery yet rootsy Southern hard rock to the legendary Wolfman Jack Stage Friday, Aug. 13, prior to that night’s headlining performance from Shinedown.

John has always controlled the crowd. I saw them last year and they dedicated a whole 10-15 minutes just to him. His solo’s make the crowd go absolutely wild

They were the opening band for Daughtry here too I assume. They were SO much better than him. We left in the middle of his set because black stone cherry blew us away and Daughtry was just mehhhh 😂💯

I thought so also. Would explain why his vocals sound different to me. On their cover of Give Me One More Reason, he sounds different then their last few studio records.

If sturgeon wants to have some good hard rock style bands they should shy away from these nu-metal, bro-metal, jock-rock, or whatever your preferred name for this style. The real bouncy generic riffs that have so much gain the notes are ndistinguishable. Classic method for dudes who can’t write heavy riffs just tune to drop D, use a ton of gain on your amp, and play like a 0-1-0-1-5-0-3-0 bouncing off each of those frets once. You know what I mean, perfect example Disturbed-Down with da Sickness. Terrible yet quintessential nu-Metal riff. So I propose to you to maybe check out some bands like The Sword, Truck Fighters, High Reeper, Acid King, Pearls and Brass, Fu Manchu, Orange Goblin, Mothership, Crypt Trip, Youngblood Supercult!!! All these bands are excellent throwback metal to bands like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, early Metallica, Stoner, Doom, desert Metal/rock bands. They sing about fast cars and a lot about motorcycles, mixed with fighting and Vikings, warriors, thunder And lightning, Thor, Odin, Freya, TYR!
And I know for a fact that a lot of these bands and members ride and build their own choppers/bobbers and have a great appreciation for the heritage side of all that! None of the Orange County style 10ft raked forks, 2ft wide back tire, or these ridiculous baggers with air ride and 30 inch wheels that look to have no rubber on them. You need to change with the times because super late end of gen X, millennials, and now gen Z love throwback! Everything from bikes, choppers, bobbers, rat bikes, trackers, vintage metal, classic hard rock!!!! Just go look up the Sword music video for How Heavy This Axe, Freya, Tres Brujas, Winters Wolves and you’ll understand what I’m talking about!! Now as far as the “new” southern rock bands like Blackberry Smoke you are right on with that stuff. Their ain’t a band out there that even comes close to pulling of that good ol southern rock sound like they do, well maybe a few but not many. The Steel Woods is a great example! Both those bands look and play like they just stepped out of 1976! If Danny Joe Brown was still alive Molly Hatchet could go on right after them and he’d say yeah them ol boys know how to do it!!!
