It always baffled me why they put the more premium steel - ZDP-189 - in the FRN handles yet the more upscale version with the stainless liners & G10 slabs has VG10 Easy enough to swap blades if you had both I suppose. I've had the VG10 with G10 version for years. Rides in the bottom of my pocket & is an excellent knife. I've always thought of it as a 'little knife with a big knife feel' since it's so secure in hand when using the forward choil.
I actually really like the light weight of the FRN. I wish Spyderco would make a linerless G10 version of their FRN knives. The more premium feel of G10 with the light weight of FRN. I know they did the UKPK like that at one point in time and I'm not really sure why they stopped.
rob264978t rob It's been on my list to get the ZDP-189 blade version & simply swap the blade into my G10 & steel liner handles. I guess collectively that'll cost me ~$160 total but I'll have two knives & actually have the Dragonfly I want. Other things like the Sage5 keep "getting in my way" of doing that! I'm never too concerned about weight (especially in a knife as small as the DF) but I like your idea of solid G10 slabs. Maybe with anodized lock bar & a matching backspacer!
The GB 1 and 2 are fantastic knives. I would assume the Tenacious isn't offered in many blade steel variations has to do with productions limitations and Spyderco putting more emphasis on their cornerstone models like the ones you mentioned.
Well, there are quite a few options depending on your budget and size/material requirements. Para 3, Chaparral FRN or a Delica are good EDC options as a start.
Depending on what size you want or need. The dragonfly 2 is smaller but a great blade. My only complaint is the wire pocket clip. Mine has come loose and I actually lost the 1st clip, luckily the knife remained in my pocket. But the replacement clip I've had to rebend back to form and I need to tighten back up. Gotta have a star head (guess that's what it is called, similar to an allen wrench) to adjust the screws. Can't go wrong with the delica if you want something a little bigger. I've got zero complaints about it. The endura is essentially the same as the delica, just larger. Those would be my recommendations.
It depends greatly on how you define "best". ZDP-189 will have the greatest edge retention on abrasive materials. H1 takes a fine edge and has relatively low edge retention in plain edge, though a great deal of performance will depend on sharpening and edge angle. VG10 will fall somewhere between the two. What is your intended use?
Why is it every time I see a knife on RUclips the narrator calls it a "deep carry" pocket clip without even thinking twice about it? What about that clip is deep carry? There is plenty of knife exposed above the clip. That is NOT a deep carry pocket clip. Take a look at the Boker Kalashnikov line. That knifes pocket clip is all the way at the very top of the knife leaving nothing exposed but the clip itself. That is a deep carry pocket clip.
A Beautiful wee knife.
Agreed. Thanks for watching.
Excellent review with lots of information. Outstanding video fidelity.

That's confusing. Guess I sort of replied to two comments in there...
Try the Spyderco Alcyone or Polestar. Textured G10 and BD1. Not exactly the Tenacious but I see it as a lateral upgrade.

Too bad they can't size up this knife to a larger version it does look cool just too small for me to be useful

You are correct Mr. Vandelay, this is a fold over wire clip but not technically deep carry. My apologies for any confusion.
It is a deep carry clip because it folds over, even tough it does not carry deep
