    So recently my dad had found his old comics and there were a few cool ones in there. Loony toons characters, westerns like Jonah Hex by DC, Tarzan by marvel, Superman, fantastic four and a few others. It was cool to see that he still had them since he was a kid and I’m saying that these are old. Superman was still apart of action comics type of old. And now that I know what he has he’s let me take care of them more and keep some of them. I’m also trying to work on building my own collection though too

    As a 40 year old getting back into collecting, the part about FOMO is something I needed to hear. The amount of variants being released is insane compared to the 90s (last time I actively bought comics), and that caught me off guard when getting back into it. But like you said, I get what I like. So I try to stick with that.

      Hi Mike, GREAT to hear from you. I'm glad the video helped you out. That's so exciting to get back into the hobby. My journey (and the journey of many folks on this channel) is similar to yours. Collecting in the 1980s and/or 1990s -- dormant -- back with a passion recently. Have fun. There's so much to learn, and so many great covers, stories, and people in the hobby!

      @CharlesCharles-bb6qx I didn’t say they weren’t. But compared to the 80s and 90s it’s night and day. I may not be as avid of a collector as many others, but I did collect, and I do NOT remember variants being thrown in everyone’s faces as much as they are now.

    Yes agreed, all good points and ones I have followed myself for decades, I would also throw in dont avoid British priced pence copies, same print run just a different price point on the cover. silver age in particular for example I have a X - men # 1 cents copy but a very well priced pence copy came along and I snapped it up I did the same with FF # 48, the books like I say same print run but can still be picked up for considerable less than US cents copies.

    Words of wisdom!! Your advice- don’t buy a comic that bugs you, is probably underrated. I’ve done it a few times, and with some big books, and even though the book was valuable, it annoyed me and I ended up getting rid of these books often at a loss lol. Hopefully a little wiser now😎

    So, this might sound weird and pretty long. So I wanna collect comic books, as in the issues, but I wanna collect them to read them. I’ve seen comic book movies and shows like the Spider-verse movies, The Batman from 2022, and the live action Spider-Man movies and some of the MCU as well (I’m on the Daredevil part of the MCU). So I wanna know about these characters but this time in comic book form, this Saturday morning my local park had a community sale. And I went and saw some comics, they had Conan The Barbarian, DC comics like Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, and Marvel Comics like The Amazing Spider-Man, Daredevil, and The Mighty Avengers too. They did have one X-Men issue which I didn’t pick up, I did pick up most of the Marvel Comics that they had. It was 2 dollars per issue but I picked up most that I can get, and all that was left was a pile of Conan, an X-Men issue and DC comics which sucks because I wish I got those too. So basically I’ve been trying to read and collect anything cheap that I can get my hands on in terms of DC and Marvel Comics. So I wanna know how can I read comic book issues from the 1960s to the 1990s (and I guess some of the 2000-2020s stuff as well) for cheap and as well as physical as well. I know that they’re cheaper digitally but I like holding them in my hands, and subscription services are not my thing since I don’t own any of the comics; and also I wanna get the issues in a collected edition like omnibuses but for cheap. As for characters, in terms of Marvel I wanna read about The Avengers, the members of the Avengers, Spider-Man (and some of the variants and spinoffs I guess), Daredevil, Fantastic Four, and X-Men. In terms of DC, I wanna read about the Justice League comics and its members. That was a lot to type 😅. But I’m really confused on reading comics on some of my favorite superheroes. But I also don’t wanna get that much since y’know money. But still, I know it’s long but I hope that this can come in handy in terms of my preferences for Marvel and DC comics.

    • @kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842
      @kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842  18 дней назад

      Hi, Supersonic! I hear you. Money. I admire your wanting to read the stories from the original material. As you mention, the subscription services are probably the cheapest and most efficient way to get at the material you want....but you don't physically have the books. Another option would be to buy people's collections. Most comics and collections from 1970 forward aren't worth that much except for a few keys smattered about (Hulk 181, ASM 129, ASM 300, etc). And, if you buy them for bulk, you will spend much less per comic than from someone at a flea market.Oh yeah, omnibuses aren't a bad option either.

    • @supersonicernie9827
      @supersonicernie9827 18 дней назад

      Thanks! I’ll try to get the omnibuses or the somewhat kinda cheaper Marvel Collection graphic novels and those Mighty Marvel Masterworks versions of the comics too.

    Singles aren't always my favorite because i like my shelf books being so easy to read, but TPBs lose value fast mostly. But an Omnibus? I don't think they will reach the heights of a popular CGC graded single, but it also won't fall very low in value, especially if i get it at a discount, and it can still sit on my shelf for some easy reading.

And, if it's a really old book, the only option you'll have is used :-). If you are investing in comics know that grade plays a substantial role in re-sale.

    Marvel makes money of comics. You on the other hand are much less likely to do so. I know there are hobby shops that can make some sort of living off comics, but they have to hawk insane amounts of products to do so. You will probably not find people who work harder for 60K a year than comic shop owners. Enjoy comics for what it is. A very enjoyable hobby.
