I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.
my favorite search bait is a chartreuse and white spinnerbait with a small gold colorado blade and a silver willowleaf blade
Chartreuse and white spinnerbaits really should come standard with every baitcaster combo. They're so dependable.
It’s a good one
Good choices for sure, but I still like a spinner bait
Really appreciate these videos that talk about breaking down water, all season, etc. Can you dive deeper on each one of these and talk about follow-up baits when the fish show themselves but don’t commit. Thank you good sir
Great suggestion!
Thanks Matt Best luck tomorrow.
Thanks!
Thanks Matt! All great reminders! One of the things I need to work on, find fish faster.
You got this!
This was an excellent topic! Great ideas for pre fishing rod setups. I typically stick to a soft fluke on a weighted hook, but I'll be adding these four baits to my deck on upcoming fishing trips. Thanks for sharing!!
Glad to help!
I love the 360GT Search bait by Storm. Choose either size 2.5 ,3.5 or 4.5 in. It is a deadly bait & it covers lot of water . If you happen to be using it over thick cover the heads with weed guards are excellent The heads have a rattling chamber. If you can't find the ones with weed guards you can get weed guards from Bass Pro. They also make the heads with a diving lip. I just love the different sizes. At times the size of the water hole dictates the size I will use. Tight Lines!
I have t tried it yet
Best of luck tomorrow Matt! 🍀
Thanks!!
I've been using this technique since moving to Florida, solely due to all the reasons you just mentioned. It seems like down here, the lakes are all large. Something you rarely hear anyone talking about is what colors lipless you use.
And shallow
@@secretbassrigs Amen to that!.... That problem is so severe and so common...it's downright dangerous. I grew up on the lakes in Ohio, so that was something completely foreign to me when I first moved here. I was on Apopka roughly a month ago, and it went from 7ft to 6" out of absolutely nowhere, and none of the lakes are marked. You'll be cruising along on plane, and next thing you know you're bottoming out in the middle of the lake. It's insane. Good fishing, but you'd better be on point with these lakes.
@@phillamoore157 Stay safe, and tight lines!
Sounds good
@@secretbassrigs You, as well...👍
KVD 2.5 wake bait is one of my favorites
Good one
Yesterday, I was using a 4" Z-Man Diezel Minnowz with a gold willow leaf TRD SpinZ pushed into the belly of the bait and was amazed at how fast I found fish. I could see the fish attack it many times.
It didn't take long to realize the bass were related to the bank & shallow structure. l caught all fish in less than 4 feet of water and never had a bite out deeper.
Thanks for watching
I can't believe I was on the bank yesterday trying to figure out where the hell the fish were? Perfect timing!!!
Spawning or staging
Glad I could help!
@@secretbassrigs I believe its staging w/spawning starting.Temps low 50's windy start of the wk, then jumped to the 70's calm.
@@enonek2960 big girls should start showing up.
All kind of good infomation Appreciate all your help .Hope you find what your looking for tomorrow. Get some rest.
I hope so too
The choppo is great. I like a fluke as well. And a swim jig if there's any type of cover
All good ones!
Literally was just thinking the other day what everyone meant by search bait or fishing to search for fish. Had no idea what they were talking about 😂
Glad i could help
I like throwing a popper or choppo to laydowns, under hangs and around docks as I'm kayaking by. I'll use a squarebill to cover water but have also had luck on jerkbaits that rise to the surface more than a crankbait some days. Thanks for the other ideas to try! It's almost time for the kayak launch to get put back in. The rivers flooded though. Figures... 😂
Thanks for sharing
The hardest thing for me is finding a good deep water search bait. 10'-15' deep grass lines that run almost all the way around the lake . I have been experimenting with a wobble head, and of course, a crankbait works.
Crankbait!
4:17 Black and blue with the Swedish fish trailer? 🤨 never thought about that color combo before
Try it!
🍺Thanks Matt🤠.
You bet!
Swim jig. Going to be chilly and windy tomorrow if you can believe the weather forecast you think that's going to help or hurt the bite? Good luck!👍👍👍👍👍
Won’t affect it i don’t think
Good luck tomorrow qualifying for the Knockout Round!
Thanks!
I heard of some cheaters in a bass tournament that didn't even bother using search baits. Instead, they put out RC boats equipped with F.F.Sonar the night before and had those populated spots already marked in their maps for tournament start in the morning.
Interesting
Awesome thanks so much
You are so welcome
I like a wigglewart when the water is cooler. I would think FFS would play a lot in your Practice, especially on a lake with no grass.
Lots of grass in Dale hollow
I just cruise the bank and shake a casting jig, hasn't failed me yet
Sounds good
👍🎣 Good luck tomorrow man!
Appreciate it!!
Great video Matt and I use all of thr above very similar to how uou fish them. I always have my squarebills tied on from a 1.5 to 2.5 size and the rare mis to deep diving squarebills that no one really talks about. Would love to hear if you use any mid to deep diving squarebills being you use Berkley and I have a couple of mid/deep baits. Thanks as always.
Good stuff!
I do awesome on a jerkbait for river smallies all season, in warm water I work it fast with no pauses, when they are on it they will practically rip the rod out of your hands.
Fun bite!
Good stuff --thanks
You bet
And the lipless crankbait comes in a close second! 😁
Yep
I'm going to Dale on May 1 any secret baits you got?? Tight lines!
Haha not yet
When practicing with a treble hook search bait, do you make any modifications to help not hook the fish? I'm fishing a yak tournament coming up on a lake I've never fished and am actually going to get a chance to practice a day or two so I'm looking for some practicing tips.
Sometimes I’ll bend all the hooks in
Great video, good luck tomorrow.
What the hell
Fingers crossed!
Matt have you tried the Evo Elite chatterbait yet they are awesome and way cheaper than the Jackhammer and every single bit as good?
Not yet
What do you use for search baits whrn the waters in the mid to upper 40's in staindled/dirty water
Vibrating jig
I’ll use a wiggle wart and a 2.5 dd
Sounds good
Matt, when using a jerk bait as a search bait, are you chucking and winding?
No just working it fast through areas
in Sweden we have a tradition of never saying to someone who is going fishing (good luck with the fishing) it brings bad luck😅. we say (hope you get a shitty fishing on you)
Haha
If people took a year or so from fishing, there would be less dead water
Disagree. Dead water is dead water
Please disregard those last 3 words. That was said by somebody else while I was speaking into the mic
Haha
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks!
Im not sure you have what it takes to win 🤔
I’ve won before and I’ll win again
