i was 4 when i first saw this sketch. i am only now seeing this again at 25. this is me now realizing there wasn't a kids show called jingleheimer junction. all my life i was convinced i had seen this show as a kid but it got canceled, "because the people on it started fighting." i can distinctly remember asking people is they remember jingleheimer junction.

He was one of my favorite cast members during his entire tenure on SNL. Not a fan of his movies except maybe Stranger than Fiction. This was during a time he was great and actually genuinely funny.

It's like Jingleheimer Joe knows he's actor doing a job, but the Junction Gang do not & they are saying what they're not because it's scripted but because they believe it.
I love that train on each tv cutaway that gradually gets worse & worse till it becomes a train wreck was hilarious! Also the buildup before you realize what’s going is brilliantly done.

This must've been a standards & practices nightmare as well as EXTREMELY well rehearsed (Cameron Diaz at 2:44 and then Horatio at 3:49 made DAMN sure he was not facing the camera when Tim Meadows was attacking Will Ferrell).

During the sketch, the censor’s hand was covering the censor button like a hair trigger, just in case the actors screwed up. Would have been even more clever if it was choreographed to have those those “please stand by” notices deployed by the actual censor on staff. Would have made him/her feel part of the team, instead of being the boring suit.
Consider the time period too, this was the era of over-the-top trash TV. Lots of shows were pushing against the censors to see what they could get away with.
@@cdw442 Aw crap, I've been discovered. Well this is embarrassing. Seriously, though, I think he's great. His facial expressions are good, his timing and tone are great. He didn't noticeably spend a lot of time reading the teleprompter. I was a teen when he was originally on SNL and didn't care for the type of comedy from a lot of the more popular cast members, who to me were just too cringe inducing silly most of the time. I just really enjoy his style more.

This is one of the most perfect skits. The length is just right. The jokes are all just different enough but still based on a simple premise. Energy of all five of them fits perfectly.
