It is Lennie Moore in composing topform and that can explain why it is on such top production level. Many people doesn´t understand many other fantastic things in this production of the game. We must understand that all in the game as music, voices, animations and all game programe code and 3d grafics is coming all on two cd. Not DVD! How can this be possible? Well that is an other fantastic part of this production. A cd on only 600 mb with all the game and the cd 2 for the music. But in that time they didn´t have mp3 files for the music, all voices and sound effects in the game. It is fantastic how all this can be possible in two cd.

I love this game. I was simply blown away when I first played it back in the day. Excellent cinematic atmosphere, unique graphics, great sound design and my god that amazing soundtrack. I still listen to it almost everyday when I am driving. Sure it had some bugs and glitches but Outcast is a true classic and a master piece from the golden era of gaming. I just started up it for some days ago. It didn´t take many minutes and I found the feeling. It is so special in many points. But I don´t want to sit with it to long, because I will have difficult to stop. I don´t play any games more, because it took to much time from my life. I want to do other interesting things in my life, like sailing in a real nice boat.
First time hearing about this game and I gotta say I'm mind blown for a 1999 game to be this detailed, complex and having this open world to explore. It's like 8 - 10 years ahead of its time.
This is one of my all time favourite games ever! I still go back to it occasionally and also picked up Outcast 1.1 on Steam. I backed their unsuccessful Kickstarter campaign to remake the game, so I hope that it does eventually get a makeover (maybe in UE4)
I must tell that my son was here and played the game. When he got the Magwa from Logar he did an other quest after that. Suddenly he found that he had lost the Magwa as he should give to the sick shamaz. It has been a bug in some new files in the last games as they sell now. If you lose the Magwa you can´t get it back and you have to start the game from beginning. You must go direct from Logar when you got the Magwa and hand it over to the shamaz, then you can go on and play without problem. I hope that they have repaired that bug, but I tell this to help you to not do a terrible misstake.
I played it when i was a child, i still remember many things, this means this wasn't a common game.. I remember so many things about it after 17 years..
It's not "outdated graphics", it still looks very nice with the high resolution patch with it's smooth voxel look. Modern games use all those shader filters which can look like crap sometimes (esp. motion blur and bloom) whereas Outcast does everything in it's software render, including great water shading and smooth landscapes with a true volumetric feel to them.
i play this game when i was a kid for me it was one of the best games at this time and still today.... i had 2 favorite games outcast and silver. best games ; )
All those sounds in the game immediately reminded me the days i was playin it in 2001 personally. Sadly i only had the demo version but it was big enough to play for hours having fun with the locals , exploring the huge for those standards area etc.
i was too young and with no pc experience those days that my pc gaming was limited to magazine games that had instructions on how to install as well, with a short review and gameplay TIPS.
I remember starting this demo up when I was 12 and was blown away by the graphics. it felt real.. there was also another game similar to arma you had a tank and it had similar lighting not sure of the name.
it was similar to recoil, but it was entirely 3rd person and you can jump out your tank the land was red like mars, and had a 3rd person arma feel with great shadowing for its time. Mabye 1996-1999.
When i was more young i play this game with my uncle, that's a nice game. Without counting the soundtrack in fight with the enemies it's spectacular game...

There are Russian top musicians and amazing choral arrangements. Cutter Slade's sovereign humor and comments should get a orscar appointment in the game world.

When you are playing Outcast, there is very often a smile on your lips. I have never played an action adventure with so much humor in. Many similar games are totally freed from humor. When I played Mass Effect for the first time, I was repeatedly reminded of Outcast. But I discovered that it was very strict and it was only the pilot Joker who offered a sense of humor in his comments. In Outcast you can laugh loudly more than once, but often there are freaks with a smile on your lips.The next moment you can be in a tough fight against the soldiers, but even at those moments you can be laughed at. But this does not mean that it is a game that lacks traditional exciting action. So far, I have not found a single game that contains so much varied gaming experience in an open world. Far Cry had a lot of similar arrangements, which in part resemble Outcast, but Farcry is a linear game, as is in Mass Effect. So the fact is that Outcast can still be played with very big retains today if interested in game layouts, design, technology, audio, music, action adventure, yes, the list can be long to describe a very complete little masterpiece when it Applies to computer games throughout the ages.
I must tell one thing more. When I played Mass Effect I was thinking that it was the game as was most close to Outcast in quality. But after some days playing I found that Mass Effect didn´t have an open world at all.It was almost totally straight games. All the delightful humor and variety between laughter and sweaty action, almost completely lacking in Mass Effect. Only Joker offers ironic and witty humor. Something that annoyed me a lot was that you can not even jump over small obstacles in Mass Effect. When I review Outcasts all the amazing AI animations, dialogues and total freedom of movement found in playing, then I am surprised how few games there over the years who have not developed more. Outcast was so far ahead of it even today can serve as a template for how a great game can be built up. Strange is that games today have not evolved so much in the actual layout and game play at 15 years. It's much better graphics and lips move in sync with the talk. Animations and movements look better, but still very small differences in how experienced a game ten years ago, and the action adventure of today. Glad to hear and follow when young players are testing Outcast for the first time. Most people are very surprised how amazing this game is. Something that surprises me is that so many younger players think the game has a gorgeous graphics. I can agree that it is beautiful and fantasize drastically, but it is not the graphics that make this game one of the best games ever. I think Far Cry 3 comes close to being just as fun as Outcast. Also, open world (well almost, some missions lock you in an area, I'm not too fond about that!). Ofc, it's not Outcast, and not sci-fi. I basically agree about Mass Effect btw. Awesome story though, and I still liked it. (Old comment I know).
Hmm, why do you say this? Mass Effect 1 already uses the cover system from Gears of Wars, and that one is a pretty decent game, but very straightforward. Until the third act its just a good story, but no great, and I think the best thing in ME is the story. Mindblowing since the team arrived on Virmire, but you need to get there. ME2 is way more superior in every other way. ME lack on the secondary quests, and the main quest basically just 4 episode. You dont nearly have to explore all the planets - only if you are a maximalist - the first ride with the Mako is very touncing, the second one is hmm pretty good too, but the 52nd... way too booring. The only better thing in ME is the weapon system, I like the idea, you have general ammo. In ME2, you do wahatever you want, you have tons of quest, and you did these that order you just want, the exploration way more better (altough repetitive aroud the 150th planet), and you have 4 City. I really missed this from the first. I want landing on planets way more often in ME not just barren world but colonized ones too. Also I more like the emotionals, the choices, the squad, and the impact on ME2 which come frome the first game. NOt mention the same game engine looks triple times better then the original ME.
The game is truly outstanding...I just downloaded it on Steam and played it yet again last year. Out of the hundreds and hundreds of games I've played over the last 25 years, it is firmly in my Top 10...so much fun to play, really epic in scale, and the best soundtrack EVER
Best game I played all the way to Skyrim! Nobody matched the character's AI, soundtrack, versatility of problem solving, ambience, freedom of scenario traveling, etc. up to some 10+ years later! Simply brilliant and ages agead of its time. Plus cutter slade is sutch a catchy personality! Totally awsome. That has also been lost over the years! Like Gabriel in Gabriel Knight 4. Who'd ever match that yankee!! :D
The more I play it the more frustrated I get, but I am compelled to finish it. It is a refreshing change from the usual fps games I've been playing the last 20 years. Really makes you think and go ugh, I gotta go back over here again??
@@Bergerheim Playing it in 3rd person, same as you. I just completed it moments ago. Took longer than I thought it would. I have a few achievements to get so I'll run through it again and see if it was a bug or wrong order of completion as a few secondary missions didn't clear once completed. Finished 97% main and 87% secondary.

I recommend you to play Outcast before you start to play Outcast 2. You will know the story better if you do that and you will have the beholding in the fantastic music even. But there is two different versions, but both are the same game, but Outcast Second Contact has a new graphic and better animations when Cutter Slade is running.

Well, this game doesn´t cost to mush. The original version cost 5.59$ and Second Contact cost 16.38$. For that low price you will have a lot of good game playing.
Hahaha you know man I played this just on Demo on a friends computer when I was just a kid, and it ALWAYS stuck with me. I've since tried to find it, but couldn't, and then I've just forgotten about it for like a year at a time, but now I remembered it again. I guess I was like 8-9 years old when I first played the demo, now I'm 27. And here you are, making this video EXACTLY like I would make it, all dramatic hahahaha. I remember I had to tune down the graphics when I played it back then. Still it was too demanding for my PC, that I did not get to play it fully. Now there is a second edition of this game, I wonder if it is comparable to the original (open world, etc)
You can play the old version if you buy it from Good Old Games. No problem with patches and other things. It works perfect in modern PC computer. The Secons Contact is same game and everything is the same. But the graphique is very good, if we look at the old side by side with the new version. The animations are better and many younger plyers was frustrated about how Cutter Slade was running very bad in the old version. In Second Contact, he run in a much better animation. My son was playing the old version from GOG and he said that he doesn´t care about the old graphique. It is good as it is for him and many other players are surpiced, about how fantastic this game is, and what was possible to get, when it came to the player for the first time. For me it is so much things inside this game, that it is still one of the best game I ever have played. If I start to test it, it doesn´t take many minutes and then I get the feeling, as is difficult to explain. The music have very special place in this game, as few other games can present today. But I have stoped to play games, even if it should come a complete new game with Outcast, I should let other players take care of it. I am 71 years old now and want to come into a real adventure, with a sailing or in some places around. So many days and nights with games, as robberd my time and real life experience.
ha! I felt the same as you when I played this game. This game, KOTOR 1 and Mass Effect 2 are the most enjoyable games I played. Difficult to find combination of fun, action and story line in a game. I hope that remake comes in 2017 as they promised and is every bit as good and better! It always annoys me that this game is so forgotten.
I still don't understand how were they able to make such a huge map. Did you get the remake? I wasn't able to play the original game back then but today I'm playing the remake on PS4. It's a bit rough around the edges but I enjoy it still :)

It is the same game with better graphics and better animations when Cutter Slade is running. But my son said that he liked the old version and he had no problem with the old graphics. Read some advice I give about the quest when the first shaman shall heal the sick riss worker. Don't let the shaman heal you before he heal the sick worker. If you do that you can't talk to the worker more as you must do. But remember that he can heal you before this quest without problems. It just the moment when you have to run to the shamas to tell him to go and heal the worker. Next shaman who is sick and very tired, he need magwa from a worker. When you find that worked and got the magwa, you must go directly to the shamas and give him the magwa. Don't do any other things. If you do the mistake you will lose the magwa and you can't find it more. Outcast was named "Adventure Game of the Year" in 1999 by the computer games website Gamespot. Good luck! Ps. Um so what's it about? Just free roaming, talk to ppl. gain reputation and keep enemies at bay? There are some aspects of this game that intrigues me but others i dont really understand. It doesnt look so much fun for me in certain aspects but the open world nature of it was way ahead of its time so kuddos to the devs.
i was reading about this as the only engine besides voxel space (delta force series) to have an infinite terrain system based on heightmaps. Dont know how I missed this title as there are pretty much no games that take advantage of the technology given to us.

I don't really know what you want to know, but I can tell that the original version of Outcast has Voxel graphics. It was amazing at that time and if you play the game today with high resolution, then many are very surprised, about how beautiful and good the game actually is. It costs so little to buy it from Good Old Games and then it works directly on modern computers without lots of complicated patches. Could not agree more. The game-play that you show is not the greatest though. A trailer could give the game better advertisement. I find out about the second outcast today.

(The big fights were missing in the videoclip) In my point of view this had it all. Action, good conversations (that also change according to the situation) good story and telling. It is created as a soundeffect for pain when he hit them with a shout. You can hear same pain when you fight them down with your hands. There is not so many variations in this effects, but in that time when the game came out, it was very nice. Still I think the sound effects are good enough, even if new game has fantastic sound effects today. I like the sound effect of pain when they shout out "aaajjhhhh" (3.01). I don´t thinyou have heard this sound effects from an other game. They are all special created for only this game.
Well I must say that this was new for me. I thought they creates everything in their studio. I have worked with tv production and I got cds with music and sound effects for the productions and videos we created. We had to pay for every sound we wanted to use. Maybee this sound as you are pointing at, is such sound as they have bought for this game. Should be interesting to know all about the other sound effects, if they are coming from such sound effect library.
I loved this game, the guy playing cant play for Zort, he needs to use the mouse to turn the camera and the keys to strafe, his strafe is not there. 17 year old me sighs that 40 year old me has to watch such poor usage of the Ulukai.

Mateus CaniceiroYeas I have heard and even played some short minutes in Open Outcast. They are doing a good job to be free hobby workers. But I think there will be a problem to use the name Outcast, Cutter Slade and other things as link to the Outcast Adelpha. The royalty and all rights to produce and give out a game will be a problem. They can not only take all raights, they must surch for it and I think they not will get it.

I saw some videos that showed the new sharper visuals of the planned new version of Outcast . I think the graphics are good now as it is in the original version. Some things I do not like at all with the clouds and the clouds animated. But it is possible that a new edition with better looking graphics can find new younger players in all platforms . But I think Outcast of the new HD version is so good, that I think it is more or less unnecessary work to Spice up there . But it will be interesting to see how it is received when it is time for Outcast - Second Contact to make an entrance March 2017. Thank you Jon for your information. A good game is not only the graphic. We are talking about one of the best game in history. Even if it is old graphic it is still the same story and action line. It was in many ways a way braker and after all this years many young players find it as a very good game. Don´t look only at the graphic. I have never used any gamepad. I used my keyboard and the mouse. It is the same as most games are working. One thing I liked about this game was the way menus are created in the game. This was, in my opinion, ahead of its time and was better than many newer games. But Outcast Second Contact was able to play with Playstation, but I don´t know if it was able to play the first original game with Playstation.

I have never claimed someone will not play other games. I have played a lot of games over the years and I am 69 years old today. I've been involved initially if we say so and follow the developments in computer games or video games. But, in my view, this game is of a very high standard today and that it is a really good adventure and action game. I think that many of today's games have not developed much, other than talking a lot about graphics, details and resolutions. The animations and graphics are incredible in many modern games, but it is not what makes the games complete and revolutionary. But it is true that we people are different and experience things in different ways. Outcast may be perceived as a bit frustrating for people who are used to more action and not so much thinking and demanding moments in Outcast. So it's good that there are so many different types of games, because Oucast fits, as I mentioned earlier, not for all types of players. If you do not like it, just uninstall it and donate it to any friend. Have fun and hope you find your unforgettable adventure in any other game.

Does anybody know if the the GOG.com-version supports EAX (I know it's only possible on Windows XP and on later Windows versions mit ALchemy)? I hate that the music only comes in mp3-format in the GOG.com-version! FLAC or some similar format is required for this great music!

The older versions of Outcast is verry difficult to get work in Windows 7and 8. +MegaDudeman21 In old time they didn´t have such animation help from powerfull software. To make a charactere to move as a human do in reality was impossible in that time. But they did a fantastic job in so many other things and all who want to look at a game as was so many years infront of other games, will not be sad, because this game is a fantastic adventure, as many modern game doesn´t have. But that is a small thing in this game if Cutter Slade doesn´t run perfect. If you have very big problem with such detail, then you miss all other fantastic things in this game.
+Björn Bergerheim half life came out in 98 or 99 and it had better animations, made from a total new software developer. it's just the game it is, there were a lot of games at the time with better graphics and animations. fortunately graphics aren't everything :)

If you look at the animations when he run to left, right and backward in the combat it lookes good for me. It is just when he runs stright in the orginal game as it not is so good. But when they started to give out a new rebot HD version of the old game, with modern graphics, they didn´t start to change Cutters running animation. But for me I am glad that they didn´t go all they way and give out the a new rebot with modern graphics. I like Outcast as it is in the original version. We have all different feelings about a game. But most people like this graphic and even my son as is a gamer said that he has no problem with this graphic. I said that he can play Second Contact, but he said he prefer to play it as it is. So all is up to every person to tell what is good or bad. But as the several players believe, it is not only the graphics that are decisive for whether a game is good or bad. I have the impression that it has always been a negative development, where the production companies compete to create the most spectacular graphics, which will surpass other games. But you often fail to develop the depth of the game, which is so extremely important to create a great game. It is the story and role performance, atmosphere, music, the game design itself and many other things, each of which can ruin a game if it is annoying distractions, which leads to other very good details not coming into their own. One such example was the first game, The Legend of Zelda. My son played this with his friends. Later I bought a Nintendo 64 and Zelda: Okarina of Time for my son. But he was disappointed, because he thought all the mood and action was so much worse. That I claimed it was such amazing graphics, it did not help to convince him. It's the same attitude he has today, about what makes a game good or bad and I agree with him. Although I am more technically interested in computers, processors and graphics cards etc. Of course, I look at the development of graphics, but it is a completely different focus than analyzing whether it is a good game as a whole.

Many people doesn´t understand many other fantastic things in this production of the game. We must understand that all in the game as music, voices, animations and all game programe code and 3d grafics is coming all on two cd. Not DVD! How can this be possible? Well that is an other fantastic part of this production.
A cd on only 600 mb with all the game and the cd 2 for the music. But in that time they didn´t have mp3 files for the music, all voices and sound effects in the game. It is fantastic how all this can be possible in two cd.

I love this game. I was simply blown away when I first played it back in the day. Excellent cinematic atmosphere, unique graphics, great sound design and my god that amazing soundtrack. I still listen to it almost everyday when I am driving. Sure it had some bugs and glitches but Outcast is a true classic and a master piece from the golden era of gaming. When I was 8, and first time I played with this game in... i think... 2013, I was so proud to the creators.... I just... Love it!
I just started up it for some days ago. It didn´t take many minutes and I found the feeling. It is so special in many points.
But I don´t want to sit with it to long, because I will have difficult to stop. I don´t play any games more, because it took to much time from my life. I want to do other interesting things in my life, like sailing in a real nice boat.
First time hearing about this game and I gotta say I'm mind blown for a 1999 game to be this detailed, complex and having this open world to explore. It's like 8 - 10 years ahead of its time.

This is one of my all time favourite games ever! I still go back to it occasionally and also picked up Outcast 1.1 on Steam. I backed their unsuccessful Kickstarter campaign to remake the game, so I hope that it does eventually get a makeover (maybe in UE4)
I must tell that my son was here and played the game. When he got the Magwa from Logar he did an other quest after that. Suddenly he found that he had lost the Magwa as he should give to the sick shamaz. It has been a bug in some new files in the last games as they sell now.
If you lose the Magwa you can´t get it back and you have to start the game from beginning. You must go direct from Logar when you got the Magwa and hand it over to the shamaz, then you can go on and play without problem. I hope that they have repaired that bug, but I tell this to help you to not do a terrible misstake.
I played it when i was a child, i still remember many things, this means this wasn't a common game.. I remember so many things about it after 17 years..
It's not "outdated graphics", it still looks very nice with the high resolution patch with it's smooth voxel look. Modern games use all those shader filters which can look like crap sometimes (esp. motion blur and bloom) whereas Outcast does everything in it's software render, including great water shading and smooth landscapes with a true volumetric feel to them.
The water is insane! It's not a game, it's a real life painting that you jump into.

All those sounds in the game immediately reminded me the days i was playin it in 2001 personally. Sadly i only had the demo version but it was big enough to play for hours having fun with the locals , exploring the huge for those standards area etc.
i was too young and with no pc experience those days that my pc gaming was limited to magazine games that had instructions on how to install as well, with a short review and gameplay TIPS.
I remember starting this demo up when I was 12 and was blown away by the graphics. it felt real.. there was also another game similar to arma you had a tank and it had similar lighting not sure of the name.
Maybe Delta Force? I remember it having voxel landscape graphics.
it was similar to recoil, but it was entirely 3rd person and you can jump out your tank the land was red like mars, and had a 3rd person arma feel with great shadowing for its time. Mabye 1996-1999.

Gabriel Egrafonte Yea, this game is so fantastic in many ways. The music is so good that there is reason to just sit and enjoy each track without playing the game. There are Russian top musicians and amazing choral arrangements. Cutter Slade's sovereign humor and comments should get a orscar appointment in the game world.

Playing Outcast is like jumping into a painting.
When you are playing Outcast, there is very often a smile on your lips. I have never played an action adventure with so much humor in. Many similar games are totally freed from humor.
When I played Mass Effect for the first time, I was repeatedly reminded of Outcast. But I discovered that it was very strict and it was only the pilot Joker who offered a sense of humor in his comments.
In Outcast you can laugh loudly more than once, but often there are freaks with a smile on your lips.The next moment you can be in a tough fight against the soldiers, but even at those moments you can be laughed at. But this does not mean that it is a game that lacks traditional exciting action.
So far, I have not found a single game that contains so much varied gaming experience in an open world. Far Cry had a lot of similar arrangements, which in part resemble Outcast, but Farcry is a linear game, as is in Mass Effect.
So the fact is that Outcast can still be played with very big retains today if interested in game layouts, design, technology, audio, music, action adventure, yes, the list can be long to describe a very complete little masterpiece when it Applies to computer games throughout the ages.

Sadly it was unplayable on most PCs of the time.
I must tell one thing more. When I played Mass Effect I was thinking that it was the game as was most close to Outcast in quality. But after some days playing I found that Mass Effect didn´t have an open world at all.It was almost totally straight games. All AI was in the same place, and if you played certain sequences, so it was exactly the same the next time.
All the delightful humor and variety between laughter and sweaty action, almost completely lacking in Mass Effect. Only Joker offers ironic and witty humor. Something that annoyed me a lot was that you can not even jump over small obstacles in Mass Effect.
When I review Outcasts all the amazing AI animations, dialogues and total freedom of movement found in playing, then I am surprised how few games there over the years who have not developed more. Outcast was so far ahead of it even today can serve as a template for how a great game can be built up.
Strange is that games today have not evolved so much in the actual layout and game play at 15 years. It's much better graphics and lips move in sync with the talk. Animations and movements look better, but still very small differences in how experienced a game ten years ago, and the action adventure of today.
Glad to hear and follow when young players are testing Outcast for the first time. Most people are very surprised how amazing this game is. I think Far Cry 3 comes close to being just as fun as Outcast. Also, open world (well almost, some missions lock you in an area, I'm not too fond about that!). Ofc, it's not Outcast, and not sci-fi. I basically agree about Mass Effect btw. Awesome story though, and I still liked it. (Old comment I know).
Mass Effect 2 was even better and closer Outcast then Mass Effect 1 (the first planet exploration was quite interesting, de 52nd was not) :D
Hmm, why do you say this? Mass Effect 1 already uses the cover system from Gears of Wars, and that one is a pretty decent game, but very straightforward. Until the third act its just a good story, but no great, and I think the best thing in ME is the story. Mindblowing since the team arrived on Virmire, but you need to get there. ME2 is way more superior in every other way. ME lack on the secondary quests, and the main quest basically just 4 episode. You dont nearly have to explore all the planets - only if you are a maximalist - the first ride with the Mako is very touncing, the second one is hmm pretty good too, but the 52nd... way too booring. The only better thing in ME is the weapon system, I like the idea, you have general ammo. In ME2, you do wahatever you want, you have tons of quest, and you did these that order you just want, the exploration way more better (altough repetitive aroud the 150th planet), and you have 4 City. I really missed this from the first. I want landing on planets way more often in ME not just barren world but colonized ones too. Also I more like the emotionals, the choices, the squad, and the impact on ME2 which come frome the first game. NOt mention the same game engine looks triple times better then the original ME.
Mass Effect 2 is the best sci fi game in years.
The game is truly outstanding...I just downloaded it on Steam and played it yet again last year. Out of the hundreds and hundreds of games I've played over the last 25 years, it is firmly in my Top 10...so much fun to play, really epic in scale, and the best soundtrack EVER
Best game I played all the way to Skyrim! Nobody matched the character's AI, soundtrack, versatility of problem solving, ambience, freedom of scenario traveling, etc. up to some 10+ years later! Simply brilliant and ages agead of its time. Plus cutter slade is sutch a catchy personality! Totally awsome. That has also been lost over the years! Like Gabriel in Gabriel Knight 4. Who'd ever match that yankee!! :D
The more I play it the more frustrated I get, but I am compelled to finish it. It is a refreshing change from the usual fps games I've been playing the last 20 years. Really makes you think and go ugh, I gotta go back over here again??

@@Bergerheim Playing it in 3rd person, same as you. I just completed it moments ago. Took longer than I thought it would. I have a few achievements to get so I'll run through it again and see if it was a bug or wrong order of completion as a few secondary missions didn't clear once completed. Finished 97% main and 87% secondary.

I came here after watching Outcast 2 reveal because I have never seen or played this game.
I recommend you to play Outcast before you start to play Outcast 2. You will know the story better if you do that and you will have the beholding in the fantastic music even.
But there is two different versions, but both are the same game, but Outcast Second Contact has a new graphic and better animations when Cutter Slade is running.

Hahaha you know man I played this just on Demo on a friends computer when I was just a kid, and it ALWAYS stuck with me. I've since tried to find it, but couldn't, and then I've just forgotten about it for like a year at a time, but now I remembered it again. I guess I was like 8-9 years old when I first played the demo, now I'm 27.

I remember I had to tune down the graphics when I played it back then. Still it was too demanding for my PC, that I did not get to play it fully. Now there is a second edition of this game, I wonder if it is comparable to the original (open world, etc)
You can play the old version if you buy it from Good Old Games. No problem with patches and other things. It works perfect in modern PC computer.
The Secons Contact is same game and everything is the same. But the graphique is very good, if we look at the old side by side with the new version.
The animations are better and many younger plyers was frustrated about how Cutter Slade was running very bad in the old version. In Second Contact, he run in a much better animation.
My son was playing the old version from GOG and he said that he doesn´t care about the old graphique. It is good as it is for him and many other players are surpiced, about how fantastic this game is, and what was possible to get, when it came to the player for the first time.
For me it is so much things inside this game, that it is still one of the best game I ever have played. If I start to test it, it doesn´t take many minutes and then I get the feeling, as is difficult to explain. The music have very special place in this game, as few other games can present today.
But I have stoped to play games, even if it should come a complete new game with Outcast, I should let other players take care of it.

ha! I felt the same as you when I played this game. This game, KOTOR 1 and Mass Effect 2 are the most enjoyable games I played. Difficult to find combination of fun, action and story line in a game. There is no problem to play the original 1.1 game on a newer windows pc. You can even buy the new Outcast Second Contact.
It is the same game with better graphics and better animations when Cutter Slade is running. But my son said that he liked the old version and he had no problem with the old graphics.
Read some advice I give about the quest when the first shaman shall heal the sick riss worker. Don't let the shaman heal you before he heal the sick worker. If you do that you can't talk to the worker more as you must do. But remember that he can heal you before this quest without problems. It just the moment when you have to run to the shamas to tell him to go and heal the worker.
Next shaman who is sick and very tired, he need magwa from a worker. When you find that worked and got the magwa, you must go directly to the shamas and give him the magwa. Don't do any other things. If you do the mistake you will lose the magwa and you can't find it more.
Outcast was named "Adventure Game of the Year" in 1999 by the computer games website Gamespot.

Um so what's it about? Just free roaming, talk to ppl. gain reputation and keep enemies at bay? There are some aspects of this game that intrigues me but others i dont really understand. It doesnt look so much fun for me in certain aspects but the open world nature of it was way ahead of its time so kuddos to the devs.

I don't really know what you want to know, but I can tell that the original version of Outcast has Voxel graphics. It was amazing at that time and if you play the game today with high resolution, then many are very surprised, about how beautiful and good the game actually is.

What is that stock pain sound called at 5:01? I have heard it so many times.
It is created as a soundeffect for pain when he hit them with a shout. You can hear same pain when you fight them down with your hands. There is not so many variations in this effects, but in that time when the game came out, it was very nice.
Still I think the sound effects are good enough, even if new game has fantastic sound effects today. I like the sound effect of pain when they shout out "aaajjhhhh" (3.01).
I don´t thinyou have heard this sound effects from an other game. They are all special created for only this game.

Well I must say that this was new for me. I thought they creates everything in their studio. I have worked with tv production and I got cds with music and sound effects for the productions and videos we created. We had to pay for every sound we wanted to use. Maybee this sound as you are pointing at, is such sound as they have bought for this game. Should be interesting to know all about the other sound effects, if they are coming from such sound effect library.
I think the stock pain sound at 5:01 goes back to the early 90's.. Oh this is frustrating, I forget the name of it.
I loved this game, the guy playing cant play for Zort, he needs to use the mouse to turn the camera and the keys to strafe, his strafe is not there. 17 year old me sighs that 40 year old me has to watch such poor usage of the Ulukai.

But I think there will be a problem to use the name Outcast, Cutter Slade and other things as link to the Outcast Adelpha. The royalty and all rights to produce and give out a game will be a problem. They can not only take all raights, they must surch for it and I think they not will get it.

I saw some videos that showed the new sharper visuals of the planned new version of Outcast . I think the graphics are good now as it is in the original version. Some things I do not like at all with the clouds and the clouds animated.
But it is possible that a new edition with better looking graphics can find new younger players in all platforms . But I think Outcast of the new HD version is so good, that I think it is more or less unnecessary work to Spice up there .

A good game is not only the graphic. We are talking about one of the best game in history. Even if it is old graphic it is still the same story and action line. How are the gamepad controls?
I have never used any gamepad. I used my keyboard and the mouse. It is the same as most games are working. One thing I liked about this game was the way menus are created in the game. This was, in my opinion, ahead of its time and was better than many newer games.
But Outcast Second Contact was able to play with Playstation, but I don´t know if it was able to play the first original game with Playstation.

This game was very different to most other games at the time when it came out in 1999. The graphics were amazing and although it's so old games, many can experience it as a fantastic experience with Voxel graphics today. thank you for that much information! but i am playing new version of outcast, watched your video too, but i still can't understand why is this game so special. i mean okay this game was interesting and awesome in 1999 and it was one of the first open world game but today we have skyrim, witcher and other games with absolutely good combat system, graphics, game details, very itneresting and awesome stories. and why should i spend my time on this game and not other? i mean i played this game yesterday and found nothing special, graphics is really beautifull but if not this video i would stop playing in the middle of gameplay, but your video made me play more, i wanted to foundout why was this game so interesting, i am gamer and i am never lazy to find awesome games even if they are not popular or bad graphics or overrated. but i think this game is not that interesting, maybe in 1999 yes but today, its not good explore,traveling seeing much things and stuff. boring also, you can travel only through portals, and you have a little location to explore. have not details as eating, or seat, or rest, craft (and much more details) story and dialoges are not that interesting, combat system is 0. and the idea of open world? really better open world games we have. maybe you love this game because you played it years ago and you still feel the first impression.
I have never claimed someone will not play other games. I have played a lot of games over the years and I am 69 years old today. I've been involved initially if we say so and follow the developments in computer games or video games. But, in my view, this game is of a very high standard today and that it is a really good adventure and action game.
I think that many of today's games have not developed much, other than talking a lot about graphics, details and resolutions. The animations and graphics are incredible in many modern games, but it is not what makes the games complete and revolutionary. But it is true that we people are different and experience things in different ways.
Outcast may be perceived as a bit frustrating for people who are used to more action and not so much thinking and demanding moments in Outcast. So it's good that there are so many different types of games, because Oucast fits, as I mentioned earlier, not for all types of players. If you do not like it, just uninstall it and donate it to any friend. Have fun and hope you find your unforgettable adventure in any other game.
wow, if you are 69 years old gamer consider me as your fan haha (also very interesting age if you know what i mean) i realise that this game is not about graphics and good combat system but idk this game have no any special story or element. maybe i should play more but i think i tried enough.
Does anybody know if the the GOG.com-version supports EAX (I know it's only possible on Windows XP and on later Windows versions mit ALchemy)? I hate that the music only comes in mp3-format in the GOG.com-version! FLAC or some similar format is required for this great music!
I can´t hear anything as is wrong with the music in this version.What is wrong with mp3? There may be reason to download the complete music belonging to the game, this is probably the best music ever produced for a video game.

The older versions of Outcast is verry difficult to get work in Windows 7and 8. The best way to play this fantastic game is to load home the new version from GOG. www.gog.com/game/outcast shows that it shall be playable in windows 8. Check up the patches.

Well if you want to know about this game, I think it is better for you to look at it and listen to it. It is so much fantastic things in this game, as is nearly impossible to explain in som few words. Take a look at it in walkthrough videos or buy it and play it from beginning. The dialogs and the music is very special.

+MegaDudeman21 In old time they didn´t have such animation help from powerfull software. To make a charactere to move as a human do in reality was impossible in that time.
But they did a fantastic job in so many other things and all who want to look at a game as was so many years infront of other games, will not be sad, because this game is a fantastic adventure, as many modern game doesn´t have.
But that is a small thing in this game if Cutter Slade doesn´t run perfect. If you have very big problem with such detail, then you miss all other fantastic things in this game.

+Björn Bergerheim half life came out in 98 or 99 and it had better animations, made from a total new software developer. it's just the game it is, there were a lot of games at the time with better graphics and animations. fortunately graphics aren't everything :)

If you look at the animations when he run to left, right and backward in the combat it lookes good for me. It is just when he runs stright in the orginal game as it not is so good.
But when they started to give out a new rebot HD version of the old game, with modern graphics, they didn´t start to change Cutters running animation. But for me I am glad that they didn´t go all they way and give out the a new rebot with modern graphics. I like Outcast as it is in the original version. They animate Cutter Slade in Open Outcast and he is not running perfect there to. Will Open Outcast ever be a reality? They are still working with it as I can see, but can´t understand how much they have produced to get a full working complete game.
There are so many other things I thinking about. Who has the royalty and the copyrights for the orginal game? It is not legal to take all things from the orginal and then use all names and story from the old game. I think there will be a big problem to give out this game to everyone free. It will be a lot of job to distribute the game and to do this free all the way, can that be possible? We have all different feelings about a game. But most people like this graphic and even my son as is a gamer said that he has no problem with this graphic. I said that he can play Second Contact, but he said he prefer to play it as it is.
So all is up to every person to tell what is good or bad. But as the several players believe, it is not only the graphics that are decisive for whether a game is good or bad.
I have the impression that it has always been a negative development, where the production companies compete to create the most spectacular graphics, which will surpass other games. But you often fail to develop the depth of the game, which is so extremely important to create a great game.
It is the story and role performance, atmosphere, music, the game design itself and many other things, each of which can ruin a game if it is annoying distractions, which leads to other very good details not coming into their own.
