About Austin, Texas:
🟢 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austin,...
"Residents of Austin are known as Austinites. They include a diverse mix of government employees, college students, musicians, high-tech workers, digital marketers, and blue-collar workers. The city's official slogan promotes Austin as "The Live Music Capital of the World", a reference to the city's many musicians and live music venues, as well as the long-running PBS TV concert series Austin City Limits. The city also adopted "Silicon Hills" as a nickname in the 1990s due to a rapid influx of technology and development companies. In recent years, some Austinites have adopted the unofficial slogan "Keep Austin Weird", which refers to the desire to protect small, unique, and local businesses from being overrun by large corporations. Since the late 19th century, Austin has also been known as the "City of the Violet Crown", because of the colorful glow of light across the hills just after sunset."
"Austin, the southernmost state capital of the contiguous 48 states, is located in Central Texas on the Colorado River. Austin is 146 miles northwest of Houston, 182 miles south of Dallas and 74 miles northeast of San Antonio.
In 2010, the city occupied a total area of 305.1 square miles. Approximately 7.2 square miles of this area is water. Austin is situated at the foot of the Balcones Escarpment, on the Colorado River, with three artificial lakes within the city limits: Lady Bird Lake (formerly known as Town Lake), Lake Austin (both created by dams along the Colorado River), and Lake Walter E. Long that is partly used for cooling water for the Decker Power Plant. Mansfield Dam and the foot of Lake Travis are located within the city's limits. Lady Bird Lake, Lake Austin, and Lake Travis are each on the Colorado River."
"Houston is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Texas, fourth-most populous city in the United States, most populous city in the Southern United States, as well as the sixth-most populous in North America, with an estimated population of 2,320,268 in 2019. Located in Southeast Texas near Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, it is the seat of Harris County and the principal city of the Greater Houston metropolitan area, which is the fifth-most populous metropolitan statistical area in the United States. Houston is the southeast anchor of the greater mega-region known as the Texas Triangle."
"Houston's economy since the late 19th century has a broad industrial base in energy, manufacturing, aeronautics, and transportation. Leading in healthcare sectors and building oilfield equipment, Houston has the second-most Fortune 500 headquarters of any U.S. municipality within its city limits (after New York City). The Port of Houston ranks first in the United States in international waterborne tonnage handled and second in total cargo tonnage handled."

Best Houston vs Austin video out there. Thank you.
I have seen a lot of city versus city videos about Texas cities and your video was the most unbiased video Awesome job man
The most unbiased verses video ever. Awesome job
Great video! Honest comparison
In 2016 I was deciding between Austin and Houston for where to live and I chose Austin. I really wanted that artistic, offbeat, "weird" culture, as you laid out. What really helped me decide to live in Austin was that I determined that Austin had a stronger movie community and movie events, which are very important to me for deciding where to live. Food is another great love of mine and I agree that Houston is superior in that department. Austin has the weird trendy food whereas Houston has more traditional ethnic foods.
There are definitely big differences in transportation between the two cities. When I was living in Austin I missed the extensive freeways and the soaring flyover ramps typical of other big cities. Driving in Austin feels like I'm driving in a city half of Austin's actual population. Also I don't think you mentioned this but Houston has an actual light rail system, albeit not a good one, but it's still more than anything Austin has (yet!).
In terms of professional sports, hey there are MINOR league sports in Greater Austin! If you're a basketball fan maybe you could've gotten into the Austin Spurs, who play in Cedar Park. I definitely claimed the Round Rock Express AAA baseball team as my own.
Yeah the humidity is definitely another reason for me favoring Austin over Houston. Also the hurricanes - I moved to Austin a year before Hurricane Harvey and I thank my lucky stars I made that decision, because I do not think I would've fared well in Houston for that.
In terms of beaches, Austin might not have real beaches but it has various creeks and swimming holes, as well as Lake Travis. They're actually better for swimming because the waters are calm and reasonably clear, but entry into the water is tough because you have to step over sharp stones and slippery rocks to get in. I grew to love boat parties on Lake Travis where you go out on a boat and then jump directly into the water from there.
Ui
Great video and i think you were spot on. I grew up in Houston and have been going to Austin on the weekends my whole life. I lived in Austin for 8 years but now back in Houston. Its refreshing to hear someone to be honest about the real differences and not just repeat what everyone says .. like "austin is the greatest things in the world on every level " ...... i mean ive been hanging out in austin since i was 16 years old in the early 90s and alot of my friends live there now ..... so i know ....... they both have pros and cons..... just different
Sad story
@@jasonmalone9833 youre edgy!
Great video! Not to put Austin down, but Houston is wayyyy more diverse than Austin on every level. Even per capita, its not even close. I always say, Austin if you want a more liberal/outdoorsy environment with a more music based nightlife. Houston if you want more international feel and diversity or the arts with a more sports based entertainment.
Houston is the only real city in Texas. The others simply fall short.
If Houston had public transit like New York, it would easily be the best city in the world.
Hi, what do you think about crime rates austin vs houston? i want to move to one of them, i like the houston more, but the crime rate is huge there, would like to hear your opinion on it, thanks
Crime rate is on several neighborhoods you will never visit. Rest is safe
Crime rate in Houston is 10x’s worst than Austin
@@raenaj4749 true but only in specific areas
Frank ever think of doing video showing what $350k, 400k ETC will buy you in different neighborhoods of your choice? Also point out the add ons that justify a higher price like gutters, views, new home technology etc. perhaps?
I think you already have educated & sold Austin to viewers so show us what we can get :-)
Hi Nellie! Yes, we can most certainly do videos in the future about different neighborhoods and price ranges! As that is consistent with learning about buying in Austin. However, doing more specific or niche model home style videos with add-ons is not our main focus either. Our goal is to grow and also reach people who aren’t yet that far along in the process of home tours and home upgrades. Great idea though, Nellie! Added to the list!
@@LivingInAustinGroup no worries ALL good :-)
Harris County apparently gets the most influx from California, but since Houston is much bigger, we just don’t notice it as much as y’all.
austin and diversity? na, thats the reason why I am moving out, it's not a diverse city, it's a snow globe. Houston is wayyy more diverse than austin.
Houston us better and A LOT more to do. Houston has events every single weekend
Bro I'd drive to Florida before I go to Texas coast
Who cares
Yea Go ahead and enjoy them artificial/man made beaches in Florida tht was built on a swampland while we in Texas can enjoy our “REAL” natural beaches😎🤷🏿♂️💯
Two questions for you:
1. Why did you choose Austin?
2. How are winters in Houston compared to Austin?
