      Thanks! Depending on device, it can vary from easy to difficult. Some are much easier than others.

    It's too bad you didn't de-lid the I/O shields to identify the communication IC manufacturers. I believe Mediatek designed the satcom chip in this one. Also, it's amazing such a small antenna can reach a satellite all the way up in geosynchronous orbit!

      Usually when the shields are removable, I remove them but if they are soldered to the board, I don't remove them to risk damage to the board or nearby components. I don't have expert soldering skills so yep.

    What is this used for?

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  Год назад +5

      It's used to take along with you to remote places where there is no cell signal (for example if you're hiking or camping) so you can send two-way satellite messages with your phone and also SOS assistance in case of emergency.

      @@PBKreviews why not use this in phones instead of towers.

      They are starting to add them to phones now a days, like the new iphones have the sos feature, and the motorola defy 2 phone once released will also have the two-way satellite messaging and sos feature. This device basically lets current phones which don't support it, have support for it.

      @PBKreviews I'm not a outdoorsman so I have no need for this device.

    Thank you for this very interesting Video! I would have expected a full area patch antenna for the satellite com. Which one do you think it is? Maybe it is molded into the upper case and accessed via the pogo connectors you showed?

    what the frick is that

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  Год назад +3

      Its a device which adds satellite two way messaging and sos feature to phones. So if you're in a place with no reception, you can still use the satellite to ask for help or send messages etc.
