This guy got a late start. He has no way in ever retiring. Hes going to have to work the rest of his life and hes struggling now bc of the pain his body is in. He clearly struggles with PTSD. People should be more considerate. Hugging someone from behind that has PTSD is a BIG no-no. He is in constant "fight or flight mode" and intense anxiety. I'm a forensic mental health therapist who works with men like Danny. He needs that additional support like SSI (Social Security Disability). He could file for physical and mental health disability. He will not be able to be in the workforce for very long in his condition and with his age. I pray Danny sees this comment. Try to file for SSI and do some odd jobs on the side for additional money.
If you have a intense fear of someone harming you from behind and you experienced a trauma (life-threatening) and that behavior started. I would say you have a symptom of PTSD. There are other symptoms and criteria you have to meet in order to be officially diagnosed with PTSD. You don't have to be in the military to experience PTSD i.e. you can live in concentrated urban poverty (living in the hood is like a battlefield) or being a victim of rape or assault. No prison time. For stealing you get your fingers chop off of the hand you use the most. A public fight is serious prison time any assault on someone. Danny is way above average intelligence. He listens and he's calculated. The fact that he obsesses about cleanliness increases his job market value (because few 'normal' people behave like that). Any working place that deals with food would love to have such an employee. He’s also mentally stronger than 99.9% of people, so as long as he can keep his physical health in check, I think he’s gonna be fine.

You ever work in a restaurant or a food truck? Its no cakewalk. You need to have a lot of business savvy, and this guy has been out of touch for 40 years. How can you expect him to pull it off. Its also way more physically demanding than people think. Not saying he couldn't handle it physically, but its something to consider (sure as hell beats roofing though).
I kinda saw the privacy thing coming when the building was filmed, someone's definitely gonna recognize that bright yellow building and it was shown which apartment going up the stairs. I'm sure no one wants to do anything malicious, but man I wouldn't like all that attention. I like to keep quiet and to myself and understand where Danny is coming from.
I thought the same thing when the building was being recorded l. Hell I live in Florida but I was born in rised in Virginia an I recognize that bright yellow building. I can see why Danny is upset about the people knocking on his door that's crazy an scary. I think you meant PTSD ? A common veteran disability after combat, but also seen by people who deal with or are exposed to things so traumatic, that they cant get past it. Most likely caused by the years of solitary, and the way the extraction team fucked him up.
I've said the same thing about seeing a therapist. I know it helped me a lot. I worked on stuff that I never knew I was holding on to. And damn! Why would "fans" show up at his place? That's just stupid!

I wonder if at age 60 I could start over publicly....what we are witnessing is strength. He has a good guide. When you’ve had to live on the knifes edge for 40 years, a warm bed and clean apartment feels like a deception. It feels unreal. Danny is experiencing the uncertain feeling of waiting for the other shoe to drop. The host is knowledgeable, and positive. Keep up the struggle D. In a year this will all seem like light weight.
To be honest, I think Danny was just a little freaked out. I doubt he was ever seriously angry, but that he was upset that his privacy was in jeopardy. I just found this channel today when I watched the first video on Danny. I ended up watching all of them. At moments I had tears pouring down my face. It’s great to see every aspect of these videos. Thank you for your dedication to helping people Joe.

I'm a bit disappointed to see this many negative comments concerning Danny. The man is clearly very grateful for everything Joe has done for him, and even the people online encouraging him and pitching into the gofundme to get him what he needed. I work in corrections, and Danny has shown some true rehabilitation to some extent, and was able to do a lot of that on his own. I don't think that he was ever really mad at Joe. I think the stress of normal life was just getting to him and people naturally want somebody or something to blame. The fact that he took a step back to rethink his feelings towards the situation actually speaks volumes. And to anybody who may be tempted to follow Danny or approach him in public... just let the man be. Let him get adjusted to life on the outside before bombarding him. I'm sure that as time goes on, it will become more and more apparent when he will be ready to come more out of his shell. It's too soon. I wish him nothing but the best. Joe, you have nothing to be ashamed of. We all make some mistakes (like showing the apartment building on video), but I know you will learn from it and not let it happen again. There is one thing I really believe you could do to help a lot of people, mainly youngsters who are thinking about going down a certain path. His fear is palpable! It is going to take serious time to readjust! People have no idea what it's like to live in prison. I can only imagine from television, and hope to never find out! But after 40 years, it has to be like coming from another planet, I'm sure! No one trusts anyone while inside! They have to watch their backs nonstop! He's probably not even accustom to not having to answer to someone else! He has come from such a strict, structured environment to the real world. I can imagine he is really messed up and just needs time and patience! He also needs a job that's not so trying on a 60 year old body! I think he would do amazing doing motivational speaking to youth in crisis! I think it could help him as much as them!
Joe got Danny started, apartment, job, transportation but now it's up to Danny to take the next steps, better job, cheaper apartment, better transportation. I hope he succeeds.

He knows plenty, the world hasn't changed as much as you think. Danny is a smart guy and just needs time to reacquaint himself with life outside of prison. Also he has friends now who are willing to help. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will his life be, it's going to take time, effort and the desire to succeed.

I feel for Danny deeply as someone in recovery for ptsd and social anxiety...also dealing with chronic pain that keeps me from working... Danny is a solid cat...y'all are solid as hell. You guys always do your best and you do amazing amazing work with APS. We are all human...we all have the hindsight 20/20 deal... Keep doing the good fellas...your work is very very important and anything worthwhile that you spend alot of time and energy on is bound to have some speedbumps. You guys do a hell of a job and Danny is a fascinating person. I hope that it all works out for him...your collective intention of positivity and goodwill...and your openness to talking about this all and recognizing potential mistakes will make that so I have no doubt. @Gossip Heart You must not know what church is LOL! I go to church 2 times a week and its not at all in the slightest anything you described church being. Church is a place for worship. I don't know where you got the idea that thats what church was but its definitely not right. Also my family is middle class, we don't have much money to show off and same thing for most people who go to church.

I think you are more in touch with your viewers than with helping Danny. Danny's case is a marathon. Slow and easy and steady. You seem to be sprinting g through this whole ordeal.
I'm worried for Danny. Please help set him up with counseling as soon as possible. You can't just throw someone into the deep end and expect them not to drown. Danny, you are strong and positive and there is no shame in getting help. Life can and will be good again. Starting over is not easy no matter who you are.
Jennifer....Danny stated he is seeing a doctor regarding his anxiety at this time. ....and though it is not always easy to get,, there are places that provide a degree of counseling for free or will take what can be given. Not all counselors are taking money...social service agencies, NGO's, churches, etc. all provide some counseling when you search it out. Just takes some effort to find, sometimes. There are some good doctors who know how to find help for people who can't afford much. (really....I worked with counselors who gave freely of their time to those in need, when I did social work in an inner-city resource center/drop-in...not everyone is in it for money.)
Why are so many of the comments on here blaming either Danny or Joe? This whole video was about talking things out and realizing mistakes in order to improve themselves. These guys both showed the best civility there is having this peaceful conversation. Congratulations to both Danny and Joe for handling such hard subject matter so well.
Danny is such a cool dude. You can tell he really doesn’t want to hurt joes feelings but I totally agree with him. The man deserves his space. Especially after everything he’s been through.

I want to thank Danny for sharing everything. I really appreciate that much. How he was explaining through the middle of this video was so good and on point. I hope people don't approach you Danny and upset you hopefully you'll have you know a peaceful life without being paranoid of somebody's coming up behind you because they recognize you from these videos. But again I really appreciate you sharing your stories with everybody that's watching because it is helpful in so many ways. I am all about education and learning from other people's history

Just watched the shows that has been out for over 3 years on Danny. You all had and have good intent. Know that nothing is perfect in life, and if you could have, you would have, done things different. Imagine if you did nothing for Danny, things could have been a lot worse, please don’t be regretful and continue to drive on. Hope that this TEAM helps a lot more people down on their luck. I'm not surprised that Danny was angry about the situation - for 40 years he's had people telling him what he could and couldn't do and was unable to make his own decisions. Then he gets out to an entirely new world with very little social support and again, isn't able to make a ton of decisions for himself due to circumstances. Then along comes Joe and APS and his entire life changed - and he *still* wasn't in charge of making his own decisions. I'm sure he mentioned the issues to Joe such as the cost of his apartment, but when you're in a position of being disenfranchised for so long, not being listened to is SOP. Yes, he found the apartment, but I'm sure it wasn't the only one on his list and there could have been others that were a better fit that would have accepted him. Joe did everything out of good intentions but doing what he thought was 'best', for Danny and for the show, might have been better thought out a bit more. Incidentally, did anyone notice he's still talking over Danny, when Danny has an idea? At the end of the video when Danny is attempting to tell Joe about a video *he* feels comfortable making, Joe cuts him off and says "I know - a reaction video!' or something to that effect. Joe, if you're truly wanting to be a good friend to someone (whether it be Danny or anyone else), you must let them retain power over their own words. Stop, apologize for rushing past them, and truly listen to what they have to say.

I honestly love APS with Joe Cody and Dave but i have trouble sometimes with Joe's attitude he at times seems sincere but seems controlling over content, what's said and talking over people and not really listening which you mentioned , I understand it's his RUclips channel but it makes me kinda sad at the same time , There really needs to be more communication with those he helps and ask what they would really like to do I stead of controlling the whole situation and persons decisions...jIust my take on it .....i really wish Danny the best...and as with the APS Team...

Joe, Danny needs more direction and support. About his socializing Danny should start with help groups, lots of people going through different issues and looking other people to validate there pressures. Good place to meet people
I used to volunteer at an inner city shelter/drop-in/social-work place that also was located in an old church & had regular services for 'clients'.....such places for worship would welcome Danny & he would feel at home & have lots of support & potential friends in such a community. (and social workers, etc. are always available & eager to help)
Hes 59, but for me it seems like hes some cool dude in his 30's!! Man.. what being behind concrete blocks getting no sun damage over all these years can do make you look younger. He was like frozen in time!! I just wish him all the best, hope he will have a nice life.
So help Danny find a cheaper place. Get Danny to start getting his License. Then a small car. Try get Danny to start his own Business. Start maybe another go fund me for rent for a whole year. No pressure to pay rent=SAVING. That way he can save. Start a long term rainy day savings fund fro when he needs to retire. Help Danny make friends-A church maybe is a good place to start. Get Danny to start seeing a therapist.
Danny needs a Soical Worker that can help him get affordable senior housing. 55 and older would be the nicest and safest place to live out the rest of his life from the financial stress he's under now at 60...Tax credit housing is another option, or a section 8 voucher...section 8 is a closed program in most every state but every few years they open up the list and you can apply. Danny's income would be looked at in all 3 of these housing programs mentioned. Then based on his low-income they would calculate his portion of the rent. Danny would have his very own place just like what he has now...maybe better. I was in jail when I was pregnant. I got stable housing when I got out but it took 3 years. My rent portion is $168. Plus water, electricity, bills, household items, gas, phone, food, ect~It's still a struggle because I'm on my own. I know how these resources work like the back of my hand. I went to college after my son was born and helped many people get housing when working with a division of the "Department Of State/Social Health Services" called "WorkSource" May be called something different in Danny's state. This is so frustrating to watch because although what Danny has now is great and will hold him over for a time...it won't last because of his age. There needs to be a game plan for Danny's future. Unless Joe will supplement his lack of income for the rest of Danny's life and Danny's pulling back so that's not a reliable option. He needs to apply for disability so he can get trama counseling, medical, and income, plus he can still work alittle but the pressure would be off so he can focus on his mental health. These are unavoidable things that need to be started now because of Danny's age. Or he won't make it! I'll be sending an email to Joe. These resources will help the After Prision program assist older men Danny's age better. With all this said I don't think Danny will reoffend by way of hurting anyone. I just think he may lose hope and fail because of not having LONG TERM STABILITY! It's a must and he desirves it! I support you Danny♡

@@donpepe3464 That's not true in all cases! Many men, women, mothers with children, and elderly poeple with felonies have section 8 vouchers to find housing. I work with these programs and know this for a fact! It depends on the situation. That's why people with criminal background situations need case management to get through these obsticals. One man I helped went through a VA program. Danny is a veteran. He can get help through the VA to get housing. I could walk Joe exactly how to do it.

@@louiejordan7625 no they get paid per ad views from everyone who isn't subscribed to YT red (and who doesn't block ads for example). Anyone who has youtube red. They get a % based on the portion of time the subscriber watched a video that was from their channel compared to how much he watched other channels content. So for example, if I have a YT premium subscription I watch 1 hour during the month of APS, and 1h of another channel, then each get 2.75 from my subscription. Joe and Danny as I'm watching this vid what stands out the most is just how blown away i am that one of the strongest examples of effective conflict resolution I've ever witnessed is coming from two ex-prisoners. It would have been more logical to have bought him a small trailer and put on a lot.Danny is older and he will not be able to keep paying such high rent living alone.On the flip side it was nice that u guys helped him but in the future better to think small travel trailers and put on a lot in my opinion.Danny is 100% correct.It's really hard for older people to work and deal esp. if they live alone.
Some may not understand this video, and there's nothing wrong with that but please don't confuse it with him being ungrateful in anyway. That's not at all what he's saying. Some of the comments here completely show that misunderstanding. I'd say less than 1% of us have a clue of what it's like to do that much time. Danny is a great guy and has an amazing story. Unfortunately, it is one of the biggest hurdles he will face...and he mentioned it. Will be so tough to get decent work he is physically capable of doing for long. He clearly struggles with PTSD. People should be more considerate. Hugging someone from behind that has PTSD is a BIG no-no. He is in constant "fight or flight mode" and intense anxiety. I'm a forensic mental health therapist who works with men like Danny. He needs that additional support like SSI (Social Security Disability). He could file for physical and mental health disability. He will not be able to be in the workforce for very long in his condition and with his age. I pray Danny sees this comment. Try to file for SSI and do some odd jobs on the side for additional money.

If you have a intense fear of someone harming you from behind and you experienced a trauma (life-threatening) and that behavior started. I would say you have a symptom of PTSD. There are other symptoms and criteria you have to meet in order to be officially diagnosed with PTSD. You don't have to be in the military to experience PTSD i.e. you can live in concentrated urban poverty (living in the hood is like a battlefield) or being a victim of rape or assault. No prison time. For stealing you get your fingers chop off of the hand you use the most. A public fight is serious prison time any assault on someone. Here's the kicker if you piss, spit or those kind of more simple crimes you get a bullwhipping and depending on the severity of those small crimes your lashes can start from min. Of 3 lashes or more. Danny is way above average intelligence. He listens and he's calculated. The fact that he obsesses about cleanliness increases his job market value (because few 'normal' people behave like that). Any working place that deals with food would love to have such an employee. He’s also mentally stronger than 99.9% of people, so as long as he can keep his physical health in check, I think he’s gonna be fine.

I kinda saw the privacy thing coming when the building was filmed, someone's definitely gonna recognize that bright yellow building and it was shown which apartment going up the stairs. I'm sure no one wants to do anything malicious, but man I wouldn't like all that attention. I like to keep quiet and to myself and understand where Danny is coming from.

I think you meant PTSD ? A common veteran disability after combat, but also seen by people who deal with or are exposed to things so traumatic, that they cant get past it. Most likely caused by the years of solitary, and the way the extraction team fucked him up.

I'm a bit disappointed to see this many negative comments concerning Danny. The man is clearly very grateful for everything Joe has done for him, and even the people online encouraging him and pitching into the gofundme to get him what he needed. I work in corrections, and Danny has shown some true rehabilitation to some extent, and was able to do a lot of that on his own. I don't think that he was ever really mad at Joe. I think the stress of normal life was just getting to him and people naturally want somebody or something to blame. The fact that he took a step back to rethink his feelings towards the situation actually speaks volumes. And to anybody who may be tempted to follow Danny or approach him in public... just let the man be. Let him get adjusted to life on the outside before bombarding him. I'm sure that as time goes on, it will become more and more apparent when he will be ready to come more out of his shell. It's too soon. I wish him nothing but the best. Joe, you have nothing to be ashamed of. We all make some mistakes (like showing the apartment building on video), but I know you will learn from it and not let it happen again. I may be making a video and addressing it to you very soon. There is one thing I really believe you could do to help a lot of people, mainly youngsters who are thinking about going down a certain path. He knows plenty, the world hasn't changed as much as you think. Danny is a smart guy and just needs time to reacquaint himself with life outside of prison. Also he has friends now who are willing to help. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will his life be, it's going to take time, effort and the desire to succeed.

Danny, you are strong and positive and there is no shame in getting help. Life can and will be good again. Starting over is not easy no matter who you are.
Jennifer....Danny stated he is seeing a doctor regarding his anxiety at this time. ....and though it is not always easy to get,, there are places that provide a degree of counseling for free or will take what can be given. Not all counselors are taking money...social service agencies, NGO's, churches, etc. all provide some counseling when you search it out. Just takes some effort to find, sometimes. There are some good doctors who know how to find help for people who can't afford much. (really....I worked with counselors who gave freely of their time to those in need, when I did social work in an inner-city resource center/drop-in...not everyone is in it for money.)
Why are so many of the comments on here blaming either Danny or Joe? This whole video was about talking things out and realizing mistakes in order to improve themselves. These guys both showed the best civility there is having this peaceful conversation. Congratulations to both Danny and Joe for handling such hard subject matter so well.

Just watched the shows that has been out for over 3 years on Danny. You all had and have good intent. Know that nothing is perfect in life, and if you could have, you would have, done things different. Imagine if you did nothing for Danny, things could have been a lot worse, please don’t be regretful and continue to drive on. Hope that this TEAM helps a lot more people down on their luck. I'm not surprised that Danny was angry about the situation - for 40 years he's had people telling him what he could and couldn't do and was unable to make his own decisions. Then he gets out to an entirely new world with very little social support and again, isn't able to make a ton of decisions for himself due to circumstances.
Then along comes Joe and APS and his entire life changed - and he *still* wasn't in charge of making his own decisions. I'm sure he mentioned the issues to Joe such as the cost of his apartment, but when you're in a position of being disenfranchised for so long, not being listened to is SOP. Yes, he found the apartment, but I'm sure it wasn't the only one on his list and there could have been others that were a better fit that would have accepted him. Joe did everything out of good intentions but doing what he thought was 'best', for Danny and for the show, might have been better thought out a bit more.
Incidentally, did anyone notice he's still talking over Danny, when Danny has an idea? At the end of the video when Danny is attempting to tell Joe about a video *he* feels comfortable making, Joe cuts him off and says "I know - a reaction video!' or something to that effect. Joe, if you're truly wanting to be a good friend to someone (whether it be Danny or anyone else), you must let them retain power over their own words. Stop, apologize for rushing past them, and truly listen to what they have to say.

Joe, Danny needs more direction and support. About his socializing Danny should start with help groups, lots of people going through different issues and looking other people to validate there pressures. Good place to meet people
I used to volunteer at an inner city shelter/drop-in/social-work place that also was located in an old church & had regular services for 'clients'.....such places for worship would welcome Danny & he would feel at home & have lots of support & potential friends in such a community. (and social workers, etc. are always available & eager to help)

Danny needs a Soical Worker that can help him get affordable senior housing. 55 and older would be the nicest and safest place to live out the rest of his life from the financial stress he's under now at 60...Tax credit housing is another option, or a section 8 voucher...section 8 is a closed program in most every state but every few years they open up the list and you can apply. Danny's income would be looked at in all 3 of these housing programs mentioned. Then based on his low-income they would calculate his portion of the rent. Danny would have his very own place just like what he has now...maybe better. I was in jail when I was pregnant. I got stable housing when I got out but it took 3 years. My rent portion is $168. Plus water, electricity, bills, household items, gas, phone, food, ect~It's still a struggle because I'm on my own. I know how these resources work like the back of my hand. I went to college after my son was born and helped many people get housing when working with a division of the "Department Of State/Social Health Services" called "WorkSource" May be called something different in Danny's state. This is so frustrating to watch because although what Danny has now is great and will hold him over for a time...it won't last because of his age. There needs to be a game plan for Danny's future. Unless Joe will supplement his lack of income for the rest of Danny's life and Danny's pulling back so that's not a reliable option. He needs to apply for disability so he can get trama counseling, medical, and income, plus he can still work alittle but the pressure would be off so he can focus on his mental health. These are unavoidable things that need to be started now because of Danny's age. Or he won't make it! I'll be sending an email to Joe. These resources will help the After Prision program assist older men Danny's age better. With all this said I don't think Danny will reoffend by way of hurting anyone. I just think he may lose hope and fail because of not having LONG TERM STABILITY! It's a must and he desirves it! I support you Danny♡

I work with these programs and know this for a fact! It depends on the situation. That's why people with criminal background situations need case management to get through these obsticals. One man I helped went through a VA program. Danny is a veteran. He can get help through the VA to get housing. I could walk Joe exactly how to do it.
