I've been in Hong Kong most of the month. I'll be back home in a few days to make more vids. Hope you are remaining legendary.
I have no idea why you are in Hong Kong but I hope you are enjoying yourself.
Welcome, legend! I'm from Hong Kong.

Also for people replying i didnt mean it like that.
@@JustKille What do you mean he's not growing fame?
Zylenox is probably the goat of 2.1 art style levels and hes quickly becoming the goat of modern mc speedruns, so glad to see it
Waiiiit a minute, I’ve seen this before
yeah, he’s insane. his decoration is actually insane
I like how even with these insane records, we still find mistakes and little things that can be improved lol
Yeah, minecraft is such a complex game it'll keep improving long past our lifetimes. 'Frame perfect' records do exist too that are 'solved' and they're interesting too, with very little difference between TAS and human.
Minecraft at least will have luck to contend with unless probability manipulation becomes practical for speedrunning (unlikely in random seed)
i mean thats just almost always the case with anything complex yeah you can do it well better than anyone else but being perfect is impossible
Yes but mistakes are not important in MC, it's only seed luck
You can be better if you don't have luck it's impossible
@@marcothedwarf2325 mistakes do matter in minecraft
@@a_little_flame589 no
If you're good, the seed give you a WR, not the mistakes. It's pure luck, you just have to play again and again.
It's different from other speedruns where players get better and better to improve their time.

Yeah but they said the same thing a year ago. If there's anything we can absolutely count on, it's that somebody will always find a faster way and destroy the current wr, and much sooner than we all thought.

helpful tip, you can see your chunk coords, and the treasure chest will always spawn at 9,9 in the chunk it's in
@@riley9464 you can't really see the coords unless you use f3. And some people consider using f3 to be cheating.
Not saying everyone does but some people want to navigate via the world not with gps :D
@@alfred3496 some people being almost nobody
almost everybody who plays minecraft uses f3 for coords, it's just not a friendly game without it unless you plan to never leave spawn. lodestones are too hard to get and compasses don't work in the nether or end
a substantial chunk of survival players who consider themselves to be playing vanilla minecraft still use small client-side mods to keep the coords up without f3 or to make them easier to see, speedrunners don't use these mods
This run wasn’t perfect, but it was pretty damn close. Often when we look back at records, some are described as “ahead of their time”
This is 100% one of those runs
i don't know, as remarkable as this run is, it's hard to call this ahead of its time, imo. to me it's more so a product of its time. hypermodern, the wall, and mapless are all things that have been well established for a while now.
compare this to brentildas run which dropped over twice as much time from the previous world record as this did. in his sub 10, he high rolled almost everything, which no one really did back then. wood pick enter, the highroll divine coordinates, and even the parkour were all arguably "ahead of their time."
brent played his wr seed to perfection. it was hard to believe he didn't study that seed beforehand. zylenox makes correct decisions but he was super nervous and made so many mechanical mistakes. i love it and hate it xd

Seeing the ender pearl render distance strategy rubbed me the wrong way
@@littletacos5595 using a vanilla feature that doesn't even involve f3 rubbed you the wrong way?
@@maximus3294 Lowering your render distance to stop the pearl mid air then later increasing it to teleport did bother me. Not calling it invalid, I am just not interested in runs where you do something you wouldn’t do in a normal playing of the game.
@@littletacos5595 A variation of pearl hanging has been used on multiplayer servers for years. In pre 1.13, players would throw a pearl into unloaded chunks and then die to get back to spawn. As long as those chunks remained unloaded, the pearl would be hung indefinitely. Then the player could get a friend or alternate account to load those chunks and instantly travel thousands or even tens of millions of blocks back to where they were. With the addition of bubble columns, pearl suspension has become even more accessible and you'll see many players and content creators building entire fast travel systems around their world using the mechanic. Speedrunners are just using a simplified version of this to minimize travel time.
That said, it's totally valid to not think highly of the mechanic. We're all allowed our own opinion. But, to say that it isn't something that would be seen in normal gameplay in inaccurate. The tech has been around pretty much since the introduction of ender pearls into the game.

Minecraft speedrun might have been uterly ruined for me when they decided to allow the use of the calculator, effectively making it a TAS, still, I can't say I'm not impressed by his run. His awarness of his surrounding and the location of the fortress was highly impressive and he really did a good job.
Yeah I'm with you all the way. The quest for the world's fastest Bear Grylls is more interesting than blockulator 2000
It's not even just the calculator, I've been watching Simply play and the entire screen is filled with walls of text. I also saw him switch to spectator mode and just float through the world at times. The speedrun is just fucking impossible to follow as a casual viewer now.
@@musicmashups he does that to check to see if the world was good, your not allowed to be in spectator mode during a run
Back when Illumina made Minecraft speedruns I found them really enjoyable to watch. Nowadays they seem incomprehensible, it's all so perfectly calculated that it feels like a TAS.
@@johnelway76 The fact that this is allowed just makes MC speedruns even more of a joke. I'm baffled that the mc speedrunning community is completely okay with it.
It's sad because not long ago, players were figuring out really creative strategies to lower the time as much as possible, then dedicate a ton of time to find the right seed. The most time consuming and skillful parts were essentially made easier by using outside tools.
i'm really not a fan of modern minecraft speedruns, especially when it comes to the usage of external tools

The other 10%: _How long till we find out its Cheated?._
Hey, can't blame me for being cautious.
I feel ya.
i feel like this run can be 100% certified for not being cheated for various reasons
The only reason you think this is probably bc the only time Karl really covered MC speedrunning in the past was during some sort of controversy, and not when good things like records happened lol. Nowadays it would be way way harder to get away with being a Dream or a MincrAvenger with the knowledge everyone has now. Those dudes cheated in an era of the game where not everything was known yet, so you could get away with more.
That’s actually partly why MinecrAvenger got caught, people remembered that he had some sus shit happen to him in his old runs, they went and checked, and that was part of the evidence that exposed him
I feel like some people have the idea that there are cheating scandals in minecraft all the time, but the only two that were ever taken seriously in any manner were Dream and MinecrAvenger, all others who have tried to pull this were so obviously fake that nobody ever took them seriously 😂

Speaking of Fein, would be cool to see a vid on his reign in AA. It's dope to see more Minecraft content on your channel
I really don’t like the stronghold finder thing but this was still an insane run
Same here. Isn't part of the skill of a run in knowing in-game techniques to find the stronghold? In what other speedrunning community would that fly?
Not into speed running myself, Karl is just entertaining to listen to, but the guy Karl did a video on that won a record in Minecraft without F3 while most people were using it seems to have a lock on greatest minecraft speed run for me.
@@tankerd1847 He mentioned in previous videos that people were using calculators to do it anyway (which is hard to detect) and when that was banned, people started using a spreadsheet of pre-calculated values which was technically allowed but was basically the same thing as using a calculator. I haven't been following the scene to know for sure why the decisions were made, but it seems like a pretty clear inference from there that the mods probably decided they were fighting a losing battle and just evened the playing field by letting everyone just use a tool specifically designed for the task.
It's all just math, theoretically you could do the calculations in your head if you were skilled enough, it would just be slow ofc. In that case, why not just let all runners use a program to calculate for them? It's by far the best and fastest way to locate the stronghold and it doesn't take any skill away from the run.
@@3nduranc3 It does. Doing the calculations on your head is far more skilful than using the calc. Being the fastest way is irrelevant if it's an outside tool.

Karl my man. I have followed you for years, and I am always excited to see a new video from you. The reason I like your videos, is because you have a great talent for making a narrative, that gets me interested and wanting to know more about the subject you are covering.
Also, I really appreciate the way you explain things, when covering a certain topic. I have never played Golden Eye, but I can appreciate the speedruns in this game, because I can always count on you, to explain the game mechanics, strategies, different approaches etc.
For a layman, this is extremely valuable. I believe that other viewers feel the same way. You are making speed running popular outside the speed running community. It is great feat in and of itself.
But alas, this video does not live up to your usual high standards.
I feel that you are rushing the narrative. There are no natural breaks when you speak, something that you usually have down to a very science.
You are talking very fast, leaving no time for the viewer to let the information sink in. And no time for the viewer to try to imagine, what for example the next strategy will be, that breaks a game wide open. Usually when I am watching a video from you, I'm trying to think ahead, pondering what great feat you are going to mention next.
I also really feel, that you did not explain Minecraft in a way, that a layman could understand. I have never played it, and I get very little information from you, in regards to what the objective is in the game, how to you achieve it, with what objects etc.
All in all I feel like you rushed this video. Like you where in a great hurry. I mean this literally, you talk so fast.
The video 13:46min, surely it would not have mattered if it was 20min or even more.
I really like your journalism, I am following your feud with the big cartoon head and I have donated to you, to help you with legal fees.
So please don't think that I am hating on you for hates sake.
I am trying to give constructive criticism.
Kind regards

In first Minecraft videos all those years ago, Karl explained in detail all the Minecraft game rules involved. It might’ve been redundant for certain returning viewers to explain them again, which might be why he didn’t do it this time. I agree though it limits this video’s ability to stand on its own, which can be a problem. At the very least, perhaps if Karl had invited viewers to refer to one of those previous videos to get more in-depth explanations, it would’ve addressed this to some level.

The calculator is cheating. Takes all the skill away from calculating where the end portal is. It also makes all the runs tool assisted speedruns, and it should only be allowed in a separate section from the main leaderboard.
How does tabbing off and using a prebuilt calculator not count as a tool and make this a TAS?
watch other Karl Jobsts videos. he did cover this issue
//literally showed the thumbnail of that video
do you even know what a tas is?
@@karatebaby6871 a TAS typically is using tools to improve performance in a speedrun, be it something as simple as slowing down the game or as complex as setting every input for every frame to make a theoretically perfect run.
In this case the third party calculator which literally tells you exactly where you need to be based off of nothing but a few screenshots is a tool, and should be regarded as such imo.

It helps at all modern speedruns are tool assisted runs as well having mods in the game now that automatically calculate where the dungeon is among other things
Its the literal same thing as a phone calculator lmfao calm down, and don’t try to say “among other things” bc literally everything you see other than the calculator is base vanilla gameplay 😂
@@pebble312 other then the auto world generator that automatically looks for better worlds, optifine that let's you zoom, and the auto calculator that you don't even have to type in cords because of the automation that tells you where the strong hold is as well as where to make a portal in the nether. the "speed running" community has the game so modded at this point all in the name of "making a more entertaining run" that they have removed a fair portion of the skill needed. Even a single mod/tool that is put into a game should be classified as TAS. Even the video creator has made a video on this. But you know, what ever gives you that edge, as long as you can convince everyone else it's ok right. It's like says, "it's only illegal if you get caught".
@@hqt00 “Auto world generator”: It doesn’t “automatically” generate worlds, every window is still reset by the runner physically hitting a button on their keyboard to reset them. The Wall just decreases lag while allowing for a reasonable OBS setup for multi-instance resetting, but it does NOT automatically reset seeds for you while you can just sit back and relax.
Optifine: Optifine isn’t allowed lmfao, he didn’t use optifine or zoom at all. If anything, you may have seen him go 30 FOV when he was measuring the eyes and incorrectly assumed that he was using Optifine zoom when it was actually just cranking FOV all the way down, which is obviously completely vanilla.
Calculators: Obviously a complicated issue, but I have personally used math/a calculator to find the stronghold in minecraft before even speedrunning lol, so I’ve never seen too much wrong with it. It’s just simple trig lmao, u could do it on ur phone easily in seconds if u know what ur doing. Also, before calculators were allowed, people employed the use of 1000+ entry long spreadsheets to be able to basically use a calculator with it “technically not being a calculator” anyways. One of the problems with a calc ban like the rules were before is that it’s an impossible thing to enforce, bc u could easily just have one off screen without anyone knowing. A vote was held eventually and calcs won at like 57% or something, so they were allowed. I’ve never had a problem with it myself, but it’s the only one that I can understand people being rubbed the wrong way on, mainly because of how it records your input values.
@@pebble312 when you mod/change a game to make it easier or add tools to the game it's self that assist your game play you have a tool assisted game. I remember when Karl said he was only joking that he was switching his channel to Minecraft-only content... Why am I so captivated by him rapid-fire listing off a bunch of items I’ve never heard of? Next step, they will let an AI send signals to their muscles to play the game. So it is technically not a TAS.

Minecraft is really the silliest speedrun ever. You gotta do months of research just to get into it it seems. Then you have to have a computer beastly enough to run 15 instances of Minecraft.
Nice video Karl this breakdown is well presented and knowing all of this makes Zylenox's run way more impressive. Thanks for the upload.
Locked in for this!! Love ya Karl ❤️
Only content creator that I click on the notification as soon as it drops! I don't even play minecraft but have watched all your vids on its speedruns....and dream rng 🤣
Can't wait for your next vid already bro
I think the most interesting was that just a few years ago, before the piglin update, getting below the 1 hour mark meant you were *good* at the game, and even breaking that limit was HUGE
It’s because the game has gotten easier to beat after each update
Had to check if I left my music on at 12:18. Have been listening to the Tetris CD-I soundtracks for a while now and I can't get enough of it. It's nice to see other people enjoying it too
Thanks for sharing the name of the song. I was wondering what the name of it was.
Thanks.
weird question. Since tools like the ender finder tool is allowed, can't you just create a tool that exactly locates the nearest treasure chest cutting like 30 seconds from a run?
yeah man thats definitely possible
Since it's kinda trivial and seed dependent whether there's a treasure chest nearby.
There's already several ways to find a treasure chest very quickly, but there's hardly anything you can do if it's hard to reach starting with little-to-none equipment.
Well not really, bc the only thing the end finder does is simple trig. It takes two lines (eye of ender angles) and finds where they intersect, you could easily do it on ur phone in a matter of seconds if you know how to do trig
I am so jaded at this point that I'm just wondering how long it'll be until we find out he cheated.
Same. I'd not be surprised in the slightest if or when it happens. Minecraft just seems like a very bad game to speedrun.
Me too. It seems too perfect.
unlikely
I remember the greatest Minecraft Speedrun being Illumina running random seed during a marathon, live, Infront of an audience.
He did it so fast that 2 of his runs are almost done in the span of this explanation, amazing 👏 what a legend
Between the f3 screen, and an external stronghold calculator, why are runs like this not considered tool-assisted?
because looking at numbers isn't a tool
A second person could easily calculate the cords for the player based on the data..
Really cool speedrun and undoubtedly a skilled runner. That said, in general for Minecraft speedrunning, while I know it's acceptable to use a calculator to find the coordinates of the stronghold, to me it feels like it's cheating since it's using an outside tool to make the run quicker. There's a ton of other skill in other parts of runs, and ultimately it mainly just cuts down on the luck element since you don't have to worry about pearls breaking, but using a tool like that in speedruns of other games would probably flat out be banned.
Eh, calculators are allowed in some other speedruns too, plus you could easily do this on ur phone in less than 20 seconds if u had a trig calculator at the ready. I guess I get the sentiment, but at the same time I feel like people are really blowing the calculator issue out of proportion. I have literally done math with the angles to find the stronghold in normal survival before even speedrunning, so i honestly never thought some people would hate calculators so much when they got allowed. It kinda gives me the same vibe of when a teacher in school wouldn’t let you use a calculator on a test. Like why lol
And this reply isn’t even getting into the issue of the 1000+ entry spreadsheets people used to have when calcs weren’t allowed bc a several thousand entry long spreadsheet “technically wasn’t a calculator”. 😂
@@pebble312 Part of my main problem I suppose is the "slippery slope" nature of it. Basically it's using an outside program to do something that a human could theoretically do on the fly, but might not be good enough/knowledgeable enough to do themselves.
In the same vein, using cheats or mods to perform frame perfect actions such as a tas would do, is using outside programs to do something that is theoretically possible, but a normal person might not be good enough/knowledgeable enough to do themselves.
It's not the exact same thing, of course, but it's in the same vein. It feels a bit wrong to me to make that exception when it's ideally supposed to be a contest to see who can complete it the fastest on their own, using their own knowledge or skills.
@@Gamer3427 the calculator never interacts directly with the game, and it's a tool freely available to anyone with an internet connection good enough to submit runs anyway. it's reference material based on information the runner has to find out and input themselves, and some other games have similar tools used in speedruns, like wind waker's sploosh-kaboom game (which is entirely random to win or lose without the calculator).
Minecraft speedrunning is timed based on the in game time. If you wanted to you could do the math with spreadsheets and paper. It just doesn't make sense to not allow calculators when they do the same thing, and virtually would have no impact on the in game time which is what the leaderboard is based off of. It is just much better use of time than doing the trigonometry yourself, and that is why the community ultimately decided that allowing calculators would be for the best. There are separate categories where the debug screen (f3) multi instance, and calculators are not allowed, however for top level speedrunners these categories are not really enjoyable to run considering that the nature of the game is already so heavily based in rng. 99+ percent of seeds are not runnable for top level runners due to bad terrain, bad structure proximity, unfavorable drop rates and trades, and a multitude of other factors. Allowing the use of these tools just makes many more seeds viable for speedrunning. These rules are the way they are for good reason.
You are the Legend of us legends. Awesome videos as always. Thank you and please keep going!
Amazing how a game based entirely on unique worlds was destroyed to completely nullify luck by speedrunners
The game isnt destroyed lmao, the speedrunning community in minecraft is very small
What are you talking about? Unique worlds are still there and luck is essential for the speedrun's success
Almost looks like a TAS run, really impressive stuff!
it is technically a TAS run since he used a calculator (which would be the external tool) but for some reason that’s allowed
@@matheuscabral9618 Techincally correct lol but you know what I mean
@@matheuscabral9618 I think it's nuts they even consider this a legit way. It's just pure cheating.
Nah. TAS runs have a different feel to them entirely. Especially ones where glitches are allowed.
@@PsychoNinjaFlea It's not
This was unexpected because the luck was amazing and the run was getting so optimized. For this speedrunner, zylenox it was mind blowing.😲 He even beat some single segments during his legendary run as well. And remember this run was against doogs wr at the time.
First, I LOVE how in the Opera GX plug, you showed your Billy videos.
Second, at this point, while I applaud everyone who gets these records, and those who attempt, Im so jaded that I dont think I will accept them at least for another 5 years. Nearly every time I think something is pure, I find out it was cheated in some new clever way not detected. So many you have brought to my attention also.
So, congratz to Z for the new record. And hopefully, you dont have to do another vid about it in a few months/years on how its illegitimate.
The only reason you think this is probably bc the only time Karl really covered MC speedrunning in the past was during some sort of controversy, and not when good things like records happened lol. Nowadays it would be way way harder to get away with being a Dream or a MinecrAvenger with the knowledge everyone has now. Those dudes cheated in an era of the game where not everything was known yet, so you could get away with more.
That’s actually partly why MinecrAvenger got caught, when he was getting exposed, people remembered that he had some sus shit happen to him in his old runs, they went and checked, and that was part of the evidence that exposed him
I feel like some people have the idea that there are cheating scandals in minecraft all the time, but the only two that were ever taken seriously in any manner were Dream and MinecrAvenger, all others who have tried to pull this were so obviously fake that nobody ever took them seriously 😂
Speedrunners are so cool man. Watching this stuff is just crazy
It's crazy that just 2 years ago the WR was over 14 minutes and now rekrap beat minecraft in 12 minutes
2 years later: The greatest cheater in minecraft history.
Thats exaclty what i thought
Thank you for uploading you legend, you make my days better
zylenox on a karl jobst video is a dream come true
i remember when he was a gd creator (and a pretty good player tbh) :) time flies
This dude is insanely talented
Yeah, I've got no faith in the minecraft speedrunning community. Not after so many scandals, and also not being invested in it in the first place (outside these videos).
I felt that "YEAH BITCH!!" on a fucking spiritual level. I love watching the rush of power and energy that happens during a WR break.
Hiya Karl! Great video as usual! I know I asked a question like this before, but can you tell me what music you used at 1:45 and 2:49? That last one sounds like Goldeneye music, but when I looked up the OST, I wasn't able to find it. Thanks for your time, and good luck with more vids in the future!
Wow, I realized how fast they were doing complicated tasks, and I had to check the timecodes to see if it was sped up (it wasn't lol). This meta just proves you don't need to cheat the odds to make new records. Simply amazing.
Nope just have to use a calculator and abuse render distance glitches and probably a few other things.
@@bdhale34 “abuse render distance glitches” tell me u don’t know what ur talking about without telling me u don’t know what ur talking about. It’s not a glitch, it’s literally how the game is designed lmfao,
Pearl hanging is a cool strat that saves a few seconds at most throughout this run, and ur acting like it was one of the deciding factors 😂 lame take and also just plain wrong in terms of how much importance ur putting on it
I'm tired of Minecraft speedruns... I feel like we're just zooming in on the one monkey at a typewriter that happened to type Hamlet.
I understand that there's still tons of skill and strategy, and that Karl is going into a lot of detail describing it, but... it's still too much like watching people panning for gold or using a metal detector.
Also, let's hope this is amazing luck and not another "lucky" person, we've had lots of those...
as a gd player, hearing karl jobst say zylenox makes me feel weird but also hype
