      @@littletacos5595 A variation of pearl hanging has been used on multiplayer servers for years. In pre 1.13, players would throw a pearl into unloaded chunks and then die to get back to spawn. As long as those chunks remained unloaded, the pearl would be hung indefinitely. Then the player could get a friend or alternate account to load those chunks and instantly travel thousands or even tens of millions of blocks back to where they were. With the addition of bubble columns, pearl suspension has become even more accessible and you'll see many players and content creators building entire fast travel systems around their world using the mechanic. Speedrunners are just using a simplified version of this to minimize travel time.
      That said, it's totally valid to not think highly of the mechanic. We're all allowed our own opinion. But, to say that it isn't something that would be seen in normal gameplay in inaccurate. The tech has been around pretty much since the introduction of ender pearls into the game.

Those dudes cheated in an era of the game where not everything was known yet, so you could get away with more.

      It's all just math, theoretically you could do the calculations in your head if you were skilled enough, it would just be slow ofc. In that case, why not just let all runners use a program to calculate for them? It's by far the best and fastest way to locate the stronghold and it doesn't take any skill away from the run.

    Karl my man. I have followed you for years, and I am always excited to see a new video from you. The reason I like your videos, is because you have a great talent for making a narrative, that gets me interested and wanting to know more about the subject you are covering.
    Also, I really appreciate the way you explain things, when covering a certain topic. I have never played Golden Eye, but I can appreciate the speedruns in this game, because I can always count on you, to explain the game mechanics, strategies, different approaches etc.
    For a layman, this is extremely valuable. I believe that other viewers feel the same way. You are making speed running popular outside the speed running community. It is great feat in and of itself.
    But alas, this video does not live up to your usual high standards.
    I feel that you are rushing the narrative. There are no natural breaks when you speak, something that you usually have down to a very science.
    You are talking very fast, leaving no time for the viewer to let the information sink in. And no time for the viewer to try to imagine, what for example the next strategy will be, that breaks a game wide open. Usually when I am watching a video from you, I'm trying to think ahead, pondering what great feat you are going to mention next.
    I also really feel, that you did not explain Minecraft in a way, that a layman could understand. I have never played it, and I get very little information from you, in regards to what the objective is in the game, how to you achieve it, with what objects etc.
    All in all I feel like you rushed this video. Like you where in a great hurry. I mean this literally, you talk so fast.
    The video 13:46min, surely it would not have mattered if it was 20min or even more.
    I really like your journalism, I am following your feud with the big cartoon head and I have donated to you, to help you with legal fees.
    So please don't think that I am hating on you for hates sake.
    I am trying to give constructive criticism.
    Kind regards
    Thomas from Denmark

      In first Minecraft videos all those years ago, Karl explained in detail all the Minecraft game rules involved. It might’ve been redundant for certain returning viewers to explain them again, which might be why he didn’t do it this time. I agree though it limits this video’s ability to stand on its own, which can be a problem. At the very least, perhaps if Karl had invited viewers to refer to one of those previous videos to get more in-depth explanations, it would’ve addressed this to some level.

Also, before calculators were allowed, people employed the use of 1000+ entry long spreadsheets to be able to basically use a calculator with it “technically not being a calculator” anyways. One of the problems with a calc ban like the rules were before is that it’s an impossible thing to enforce, bc u could easily just have one off screen without anyone knowing. A vote was held eventually and calcs won at like 57% or something, so they were allowed. That said, in general for Minecraft speedrunning, while I know it's acceptable to use a calculator to find the coordinates of the stronghold, to me it feels like it's cheating since it's using an outside tool to make the run quicker. There's a ton of other skill in other parts of runs, and ultimately it mainly just cuts down on the luck element since you don't have to worry about pearls breaking, but using a tool like that in speedruns of other games would probably flat out be banned.

I have literally done math with the angles to find the stronghold in normal survival before even speedrunning, so i honestly never thought some people would hate calculators so much when they got allowed. It kinda gives me the same vibe of when a teacher in school wouldn’t let you use a calculator on a test. Like why lol

      @@pebble312 Part of my main problem I suppose is the "slippery slope" nature of it. Basically it's using an outside program to do something that a human could theoretically do on the fly, but might not be good enough/knowledgeable enough to do themselves.
      In the same vein, using cheats or mods to perform frame perfect actions such as a tas would do, is using outside programs to do something that is theoretically possible, but a normal person might not be good enough/knowledgeable enough to do themselves.
      It's not the exact same thing, of course, but it's in the same vein. It feels a bit wrong to me to make that exception when it's ideally supposed to be a contest to see who can complete it the fastest on their own, using their own knowledge or skills.

      @@Gamer3427 the calculator never interacts directly with the game, and it's a tool freely available to anyone with an internet connection good enough to submit runs anyway. it's reference material based on information the runner has to find out and input themselves, and some other games have similar tools used in speedruns, like wind waker's sploosh-kaboom game (which is entirely random to win or lose without the calculator).

    • @19hun
      @19hun Год назад

      Minecraft speedrunning is timed based on the in game time. If you wanted to you could do the math with spreadsheets and paper. It just doesn't make sense to not allow calculators when they do the same thing, and virtually would have no impact on the in game time which is what the leaderboard is based off of. It is just much better use of time than doing the trigonometry yourself, and that is why the community ultimately decided that allowing calculators would be for the best. There are separate categories where the debug screen (f3) multi instance, and calculators are not allowed, however for top level speedrunners these categories are not really enjoyable to run considering that the nature of the game is already so heavily based in rng. 99+ percent of seeds are not runnable for top level runners due to bad terrain, bad structure proximity, unfavorable drop rates and trades, and a multitude of other factors. Allowing the use of these tools just makes many more seeds viable for speedrunning. These rules are the way they are for good reason.

    First, I LOVE how in the Opera GX plug, you showed your Billy videos.
    Second, at this point, while I applaud everyone who gets these records, and those who attempt, Im so jaded that I dont think I will accept them at least for another 5 years. Nearly every time I think something is pure, I find out it was cheated in some new clever way not detected. So many you have brought to my attention also.
    So, congratz to Z for the new record. And hopefully, you dont have to do another vid about it in a few months/years on how its illegitimate.

    • @pebble312
      @pebble312 Год назад

      The only reason you think this is probably bc the only time Karl really covered MC speedrunning in the past was during some sort of controversy, and not when good things like records happened lol. Nowadays it would be way way harder to get away with being a Dream or a MinecrAvenger with the knowledge everyone has now. Those dudes cheated in an era of the game where not everything was known yet, so you could get away with more.
      That’s actually partly why MinecrAvenger got caught, when he was getting exposed, people remembered that he had some sus shit happen to him in his old runs, they went and checked, and that was part of the evidence that exposed him
      I feel like some people have the idea that there are cheating scandals in minecraft all the time, but the only two that were ever taken seriously in any manner were Dream and MinecrAvenger, all others who have tried to pull this were so obviously fake that nobody ever took them seriously 😂
