I am based in Ireland and am a fan of Dylan for years. I just came across this cover last night and it is a beautiful interpretation and rendition and slowing the tempo is really effective. It’s probably the best version of this song. I also like the Hard Rain version. Thanks Luke.
Simply spectacular. In addition to the beautiful change in tempo, your vocal phrasing turns one of Dylan’s harsher deliveries into a song of gentleness and grace. This is exceptionally captivating, and makes me regret living on the opposite side of the world-I think it would be wonderful to hear you play it live. I play dobro, lap steel, and especially Weissenborn, and I love the way you incorporate the slide into the guitar voice. Artful, light-handed, and deftly done. Thank you for a delightful experience.
Hi Luke Peter here the old guy beside my Judy.As an old Dylan junkie going back eons I always appreciate any cover of a Dylan tune.Your interpretation nails it.You have captured the essence of the song that Dylan intended in a completely new arrangement.I really like it because you have slowed down the tempo so much that the listener really gets to digest the lyrics in a relaxed manner.Sorry for the delay in responding Luke. We here in Calgary wish you much success in your music endeavours in Australia. We hope the causes you support will be triumphant in their outcome. Much admiration from us to you Peter & Judy
If you ever put this song/performance on a live CD, please let me know. I will buy it in a heartbeat. I'm sure that a lot of other music lovers will also. Truly a magical rendition! Joe Zagorski Author of The NFL in the 1970s: Pro Football's Most Important Decade.
Dylan takes us to a point in time, the moment when he first encounters love. He returns to that point with each stanza and expands on each emotion he felt just before that moment. When we all arrive at that instant in time, just before blackness was a virtue, nothing else matters, we lose all sight of our lot in life and are reborn. Again, and again Dylan's lyrics explode in each stanza with life’s graces and pitfalls that make us want to turn back time. All the while forcing us to remember the simplicity of the self-evident consequence of love, he found shelter from the storm! JM
