      I've been keeping fish since I was 6. I'm 62 now. Like me, you'll remember we never had problems back in the day. I'm convinced all the gimmicks and 5 million miles an hour filters haven't done us any favors. My entire store is now on sponge filters and the technology has been discarded. Much more success. Newbie hobbyists having better experience with simple equipment.

    Temperatures for blue rams should always be higher than it would be for regular tropicals because these tiny eartheater cichlids hail from shallow streams flowing in the Llanos (open grasslands) of Venezuela; constantly exposed to bright equatorial sun.
    Here in Singapore, where it is very hot the average indoor ambient temperatures fall between 29°C~31°C (84.2°F~87.8°F) and thus, aquarium water temperatures of 27.7°C~28°C (81.8°F~82.4°F). Thus, it is very easy to rear and breed blue rams, as well as discus fish, here in Singapore.
    Temperatures below 80°F are preferred by aquatic plants so, when planting up a tank for blue rams be sure to research a plant species to ascertain its hardiness in terms of tolerance for much higher temperature range. So, in short keep it really warm for the blue rams and they'll thrive well!

    I am in the process of preparing a first tank. In one of your videos you only push new plants one inch into the sand so that they find their way to the soil underneath at their own pace. What do the plants live on until that happens?

      @@FatherFish Thanks Father Fish. From watching many of your videos, I get a sense that fish combinations are not so crucial as the substrate and plants - “fish are fish” haha I like this. Of course I won’t pair obviously incompatible fishes together, but just thought I’d ask :) Appreciate your time.

    Finest Aquatics in widnes are at it we went from £14 A PAIR to males only for £14 or would you like a super cardinal TETRA for £4.50 😂😂 same goes for the panda gara males only an yet they are extremely hard to sex young so somebody is taking the time an alot of effort to control it
    Gate keeping has been called out in Australia too by kFS youtuber

    interesting fish, but I am not a fan breeding fish which cant stay together in larger groups for long.
    For the private hobby its not that easy to get rid of all the offspring with fish species where people only want at best a pair ... unless you live in a dense urban area with a lot of potential costumers. Requires a lot of space / prepared tanks to keep the offspring around until all found a new home. Ofc one can always go the more natural way, just set up a larger tank from the start and dont separate after they hatch ... occasional some will make it, the rest becomes food.
    The problem of gettign rid of all the offspring from separate breeding seems to be often brushed aside with all the HowTo videos. Many people often just end up with too many fish and too little space to keep them around long enough without issues.

    • @FatherFish
      @FatherFish  9 месяцев назад +3

      You are correct. You raise an important concern that goes unanswered. As a shopkeeper hobbyists came through my door with fish that had multiplied and become too large to keep. Sadly too often they were not salable due to stunting, poor genetic mixing, or deformed and damaged fins from being overstocked. This IS a serious issue and one worth exploring. Join me in the FF Shoal where we can discuss this and arrange some videos to deal with the issue. discord.gg/father-fish-shoal

    I literally just grabbed 3 german blue rams 2 females one male in my jungle tank which is now a full house for sure. 6 panda garra, 8 Cory's, 10 otos, and 1 male golden wonder killi, 3 guppys 2 female one male . 3 days in I've seen breeding behavior at 78 79 degrees just set to 80 but all 3 have been sticking together so far ❤️ oh 29 gallon jungle tank deep substrate

      Isn't that really unfair on the second female??

    • @melwohl37
      @melwohl37 9 месяцев назад

      @DashDrones so far all 3 have been happily sticking together once I notice one of the females being left out or bullied or unhappy I will move her I sit on my tanks like a mother hen. So far all 3 seem happy and healthy 😊 plus like I said in my earlier comment they live in a jungle tank with plenty to do. This is my first go with any kind of ram and to be truthful I'm not trying to breed them just yet but we shall see. Is it unfair you see huge numbers of them male and female in Bare tanks at the lfs? Or at breeders? Would be my question? I want the best for my fish as I'm sure we all do here on this channel. I didn't know you could only do 2 in a community tank ?

      @DashDrones I'm glad he came out with this video I did tons of research before adding them to the tank as I do any fish so I may move the third female anyway no where in my research did it say only get a pair just not 2 males so I figured might be the same as with most fish more females than males 😅 wish I could leave photos here or I would show you.
