I really love the juxtaposition of sorrowful melancholy, with optimistic acceptance no matter where you are present in so many of his songs.
years ago, my therapist asked me what my favourite song was. i (very confidently) said "even if it's a lie by matt maltese". she didn't even make it past the second line before she said "let's dive into that" BAH moral of the story, matt maltese is amazing and deserves the world
