@@FactsVerse Two of the original Byrds died alcoholics and Gene was a junkie off and on until it killed him. David was thrown out of the Byrds and his contributions were minimal. He wasn't much of a guitarist and his song writing was 'quirky' at it's best. His voice fit well as did his sense of harmony but they proved he wasn't missed. At shows he tried to draw attention to himself and away from Gene and Jim. For photo shoots he tried to dress so he would stick out from the rest and draw attention away from Roger's glasses and Gene's good looks and slim build. Before his mustache Crosby looked like a fat kid. Neil probably ruined more shows - when he showed up and didn't just lay on the stage floor - then he played. The same with recording sessions. Somehow he was still a good songwriter and remained so for a long time. He erased the recorded harmonies and the tracks written by C&N from the album that later became "The Stills Young Band in 1976 ". Somehow through several line-ups these four incredibly huge egos recorded some great music. With Young too much of it deteriorated on stage into a squealing guitar duel for way too long. At least the Allmond's 25 minute live versions of "Whipping Post" only deteriorated into boring monotony - kinda like how during a drum solo you aren't afraid to go for beer, knowing you won't miss anything. Yes, I wish the two principles of The Who would have been the two who died young and not the two we lost and now miss. I believe some of your 60's idols ( from when you were no doubt stoned most of the time- should have died off in the 70's or at least had the good sense to retire from music like Grace did.

A liver that should have gone to someone who hadn't intentionally trashed theirs. Grace Slick gave him a public thrashing over that one on Nash's show when he came on to sing 'Wooden ships' with C&N. I agree. He was Mr. Hippie spokesman ( and even proudly voted for Bernie the Commie in 2016 ) yet he showed his true colors by letting money - LOL, someone else's , pay for his liver while people who deserved a transplant stayed on the waiting list because they couldn't afford one. Those two things alone plus his inability to afford coke in his later years may have added some to his life tally. I used to love the man! David Crosby had a musical career full of tragedies and loose living , but he was also very fortunate to have so many people helping him out . Early in his career he only had big hits with the Byrds from songs written by other artists , and later in his career he was very fortunate to have Phil Collins pay for his liver transplant and have Peter Tork lend him money for his ocean yacht , and he didn't seem to have any financial problems with his many wives and children - lucky guy !!! He lived until 81 which isn't bad since other people around him were dying at young ages . I think it was back in 2019 when David Crosby did an interview where he said he had three stent operations on his heart and he was laughing like it was no big deal - that's what amazed me about David Crosby - that he had no fear of dying even when he led a very unhealthy lifestyle and needed medical help quite often !!! My fave album was Deja Vu 👍🙏

He was 81, what, do you want him to hang on until he's 100 and doesn't know where he is? Not tragic..."the cycle of life and death," all the success and money and women and acclaim most of us will NEVER get to experience, yes, drug addiction but a blessed life by any measure. RIP

Judy Blue Eyes is a Masterpiece, but as a teenager, I thought sections were obnoxious. Not anymore. Crosby's voices helps the Stills composition.
I wasn't big on Teach Your Children, but I loved Ohio. The song he sang on that really grabbed me was Southern Cross.
The Byrds, however, is a top five R&R band of mine. I can literally listen to them all day. So, that makes David Crosby one of my most favorite R&R / Folk vocalists. Bob Dylan is an excellent composer, but I like the Byrds' performances of Dylan's songs better than the Dylan versions.

In regard to the death of legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen a couple of years ago, isn't Crosby the guy who publicly said something classless like *"I don't know why everyone is making such a big deal about EVH's legacy. He was a good guitarist, but he wasn't THAT good."* ? I'm paraphrasing, but it was something similar to that.
_Again, he said it just a couple of days after his death. He DID finally apologize... but the apology came 3-4 days later... and it was only offered up after everyone (fans, fellow musicians, etc) were saying what an a-hole he was to disparage Eddie's memory, especially after only just a couple of days from the date of his passing._
It was definitely not Crosby's finest hour.
