So sad that her adoptive dad died in 2020 and Michaela couldn't go to the funeral on account of covid; and her adoptive mother died just one day after Michaela. The mother was in such poor health that she had not heard that Michaela died before she herself died.
Michaela accomplished so much in her much too short life; she overcame impossible odds and her impossible possible. I have held her up in awe forever. I do believe she was born, to have her name known worldwide, to show people never give up, forge ahead and make your impossible possible, even when numerous odds are stacked high before you.

Yes, she made a difference in the world for sure. She will be remembered. They need a movie about her life. So sad she passed young. I also adopted from a far away orphanage and the care given at a young age can sometimes go undiagnosed. We were expecting an 8 month old baby who would require a heart surgery as soon as she arrived in America at 8 months old. Took her to Children's hospital and they said she was 100% ok, later diagnosed with Asthma. She got lucky and blessed. She is a teen now and also thrives in life. My husband and I put our all in her as we only have her and no siblings. We wanted more, could not afford it and my body was already disabled, partly why we had to adopt to create a full family. Anyway, she is happy and doing great in life. She also danced for 10 years, now big time into musicals.
RIP Micheala and to her mother. They passed just one day apart. What a beautiful dancer she was. May God bless the DePrince family and all who loved them.

It's actually still undetermined as of today the 17th of sept, she passed on the 10th. Her (adoptive) mom passed the day after. Her mom was having routine surgery and thankfully didn't know her daughter had passed. She had already lost I think 3 children so, at least she was spared that pain. Very sad, I cannot imagine what that family is going through.

There was a moment onstage when she was doing Italian Fouettes and just held her very high 2nd as she went into the revolution. I gasped---and so did the entire audience of serious students and professional dancers. And she briefly flashed this cute little smile. She tended to head a lot of lists of "Black ballerinas better than Misty Copeland" around the time Copeland made principal. What a loss for HET and the ballet world. Thanks for reporting! 😢

I’m sorry but there’s no WAY there’s a God. He took that woman’s 3 kids (they were all hemophiliacs and needed blood transfusions and were accidentally given HIV+ blood), then she loses her husband to Lewy Body Dementia, then her daughter dies unknowingly to her while she’s under anesthesia for a “routine” procedure that goes wrong, losing her life. Why. Why be a good servant if this is the despair that awaits. You can be a good person without giving yourself away to “God”.
I'm sure they still have family, but her father died in 2020, and her mother died a day after her due to heart failure, according to wiki anyway. Neither was aware of the declining health or death. So I'd like to think they got to reunite. Since it's unusual to go when your parents do.

He took that woman’s 3 kids (they were all hemophiliacs and needed blood transfusions and were accidentally given HIV+ blood), then she loses her husband to Lewy Body Dementia, then her daughter dies unknowingly to her while she’s under anesthesia for a “routine” procedure that goes wrong, losing her life.
Why. Why be a good servant if this is the despair that awaits. You can be a good person without giving yourself away to “God”.
As a Sierra Leonean, we are so blessed that she left a very positive legacy. She passed too young. May she pirouette with her Mummy in paradise 😢 🙏🏽

I'm sure they still have family, but her father died in 2020, and her mother died a day after her due to heart failure, according to wiki anyway. Neither was aware of the declining health or death.
So I'd like to think they got to reunite.
Since it's unusual to go when your parents do.
