      You are so welcome!. Now, you will not here other laundry experts talk about soft whites and hard whites. This is something I came up with after washing grubby little socks that kids have been running around in and such and then having to wash my husband's white dress shirts. Oh yeah! It does make a difference to sort those into soft and hard. What are you laundry challenges?

    • @barbarareel71mom1son04
      @barbarareel71mom1son04 Год назад

      @ThisandThatwithDeniseJordan Great idea to create a hard and soft white category - it makes good sense. My laundry challenge is keeping my husband from drying large amounts of clothing at once. I have a thing for drying in small units with like items. For example, I would never dry colored, casual shirts and colored towels together. I dry towels separately. My husband will throw everything into the dryer in an attempt to "help" out but it drives me bananas 😁

    • @homemakingwithdenise
      @homemakingwithdenise  Год назад +3

      @@barbarareel71mom1son04 Barbara, I get it. My husband is very similar in his washing routines. You either have to try to educate him kindly or just let him do it his way. You don't want him to not help. Encourage him and encourage him more when he does it the way you need it done.

    I trick I learned to whiten dingy tshirt while incarcerated since they wash colors and whites together is to soak the dingy T-shirt’s in POWDER TIDE. Use your own judgment as to how much Tide to use. I used to use 1/2 a cup for just several T-shirt and a few white socks. Do small batches . You will notice a big difference in whiteness. Bleach degrades the fabric.

    I’m so happy I found your page! I have a white soft cotton mix polyester shirt, however it has a metallic print on it, and there are some stains on it after I washed it, not too dark but I have no idea how to use the bleach to not ruin the shirt, it’s practically brand new I got it a month ago and I don’t want to ruin it

    • @homemakingwithdenise
      @homemakingwithdenise  9 месяцев назад +1

      Lara…don’t use bleach. Try baking soda to lift the stain. I’ve got a short about how to do that but start there. Hopefully it’s not been put in the dryer since you tried to get the stain out. The dryer sets the stain and makes them more difficult to remove, but make a baking soda paste. Put it on the stained area and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Then give it a good scrub. Rinse. See if the stain is gone. If not repeat the process. However, if you’ve put the garment in the dryer already the stain may not come completely out. Let me know.

      Hi Vanessa. Great question. Here’s the deal…right now, I’m crushing on Dirty Labs. Before that…Persil. However, it’s not sooooo much the detergent, and yes…the soooooo was intentional…but how you wash them. I almost always use OxiClean White Revive to help keep those whites bright. Not bleach because bleach can cause yellowing over time but OxiClean White Revive. Also…don’t forget to sort those hard whites from soft whites. It absolutely does make a difference between dull, dingy whites and bright whites. Got another question? Let me know how I can help.

    But you still didn't tell us what to use to restore them back to bright whites . Bleach doesn't take all of the dinge out of your hard white clothes . ( I know, I've tried and failed so many times ). I need to know how to restore them back to bright white, so I don't have to keep throwing away or using stained t-shirts for cleaning rags, while constantly buying new ones . And dyeing them ? Forget it, I've tried it . The stains, ( especially rust and certain oil stains ), show through the colors, unless you dye everything black .

    • @homemakingwithdenise

      Oh! I am sorry. What I do to restore brightness is OxiClean White Revive. It will take some of the dinginess out. Depending upon how long and how deep determines if you can get it all out. Just keep trying with the OxiClean White Revive and you should see a difference, let me know how this works for you.

      Separate white whites like your dress shirts or button down shirts, underwear and gym socks, then lights and darks. You could throw the gym socks in with the lights if needed.
