- N Stuff Music and ESP Guitars Present: Gary Holt of Exodus and Slayer!
Gary Holt is a legend in the thrash metal world, and we were honored to host him at the store for a Guitar Clinic of epic proportions!! From his vast catalog with Exodus, and his current workload with Slayer, this guy has been hammering out some of the most brutal riffs to have ever graced music.
In summary, Gary was a fucking blast to video! His honesty and humbleness were quite refreshing, and he even signed Ru-DoGG's name tag tattoo!!!
Be on the lookout for some product videos of Gary playing his signature LTD GH-200 and GH-600 series guitars!!

Gary Holt is definitely a legend. His riffs are killer!
Thanks for the upload!
Glad you enjoyed it!
“Never live on regret” that’s one of the best thing i’ve heard in a while. respect to Gary! Bay area represent!!! lol
Gary and Exodus are incredible! One of my favorite bands, who never sold out, or compromised Fukk-all. Love them!
This guy is one of the few kings of thrash. He takes metal to a hole new level
Um. How many kings can there be?
I like this guy
Us too!
We all do🤘
One of the most down to earth humble human beings ever. Gary is a class act who just tells it like it is. This was all about his fans. Not many musicians do that anymore. Can’t wait for the new Exodus!!!
I come back to this video just to hear and learn Gary’s licks. definitely one of my heroes in thrash metal. Thanks for posting.
I don't play Guitar but i love watching him play and talk.
Down to Earth af
Gary Holt is a great guitarist!! Legend!!
God so refreshing to see down to earth guys like this.
I'm not surprised about Gary's opinion on Prince at all. I always believed he was an incredible musician and showman. The guy could play the guitar like no ones business and could play just about any other instrument too. Gary is pretty damned correct on that subject.
The most talented musician you don't want to listen to.
i'm impressed that Kirk Hammet taught him to play the guitar
I'm not sure hell he might have showed Kirk how to play their both equally good
kork hommet is a joke
@@DOM_puyo fulll agreement
Yes, but kirk taught him guys. Tuats the truth.
And that in less than a year after that the guy was recording and releasing an album. If the story is true, THAT is impressive.
Just make the next Exodus album with Zetro and Dukes. Would be killer!
Gary is awesome!!!
Wicked player. Wicked tats.
wicked comment! haha
Wicked reply
@@PhantomLordOG wicked name
Wicked late comment here
His guitar is so sick
You can get the Gary Holt signature ESP at N Stuff Music for a great deal!
Gary = Awesomeness, Whomever attempted to mix the audio in this video = Fired!!!!
Thanks so much for uploading this!
No problem!
Been playing 33 years,Pro for the last 15,and buddy I've seen and met countless people, places & things...It doesn't get any better than Mr Holt's attitude Respect
Gary Holt, card carrying member of the left foot wah pedal club!
Gary is such a cool humble dude
I think his riffing is sooooooo aggresive, and some licks have a southern influence reminding me of Dimebag
Great stuff love Holt AAA Top Shelf #1 Thrash era crisp and clean Thanks for the upload
Awesome!
Just bought that guitar 20 minutes ago. So stoked.
Nice! How's it play?
The Stuff Mike Does Man I love it. It plays great, stays in tune after diving with the tremolo. I’m glad I got it
@@chrisjones2384 dude I bet it rips. i need to get my hands on one!
So cool to know he like lost society !!!
Awesome!!!
Gary is the coolest guy ever. Thanks for this.
He's pretty funny and down to earth. I like his style, he may not have the most technical leads, but they're very memorable and fit the songs well.
Gary holt is badass and doesn't let down live exodus
The riff at 4:02 gave me fkn chills😂
gary is a legend one time during a show he was in the middle of a guitar solo so he did a dive bomb sat the guitar on a table drank a beer and played the rest of the song this was during the farewell tour during angel of death SLAYER FOREVER
COOL....LOVE IT!!!!! AWESOME PLAYING AND GREAT PERSONALITY!!!!!!!!!!
That guitar tone ... JEEEZUZ fucking crushing
I love this guy :-)
Rock on Bro! 🍻🍻🤘😎
Love his guitar taste
my favprite metal 🎸 player
Gary Holt is a LEGEND in his own right. Played in 2 of the main Thrash Bands and basically led Exodus. His riffs are killer and his leads are NICE as well. His style is what I’m kind of going for. The prototype Riffster WITH Leads to boot
Thanks for sharing; what a cool thing to sit on youtube and absorb the thoughts and words of our heroes... Awesome. I play a LOT, & vids like this put a spring in my step. inspire me towards better better better results on that fretboard.....
Stay healthy, best thoughts from the UK
Gary is a monster on guitar with\m/
Still looking forward to the Exodus album!
Gray Holt is great player seems like a cool guy
Gary please release those profiles
My God, that ESP if fucking gorgeous!
Very sweet guy.
1. Gary Holt
2. Dave Mustaine
3. Jeff Hanemann
4. Mille Petrozza
5. Alex Scolnik
highly overlooked: Andy Classen
(list is about thrash songwriting, not about technical ability)
How many songs Gary wrote??? Mustaine wrote whole his songs, but I don't know about Gary and..... Shouldn't James being in this list???
Es un privilegio......... adelante siempre.......suave no más no se jueguen mucho, son profesionales y tienen demasiado más para los fans nuevos y los veteranos ............ bien más todo gracias
I hope from being around Gary, Kerry King learns how to play.
Buenas noches maestro todo es lo máximo, tiene demasiado puesto el lugar y la talla para acoplar una banda legendaria como Slayer ,han hecho conciertos juntos también, pero por favor en español gracias saludos cordiales
In 1986 my cousin and I went to the Trade Center and bought some albums with one being Bonded By Blood.I never like the metal he played like Maiden or Priest so I look at the songs and was thinking thee are sick titles and I saw one that was labeled "Piranha/No Love" I was thinking what the fuck is Piranha no love so I put it on and that was the first song of thrash metal I heard and the drums intro with the tone of the guitar and the alternate picking with the galloping and Baloffs vocals fucked me running and I became a flat out junkie and I couldn't get enought thrash and I became addicted to death metal and the the Swedish wave of death metal and it was all due to this riff GOD!Tom Hunting and Holt are the most dominate duo ever. You cant spell Gary Holt with G O A T. All hail the king.
he is so fckn cooooool!!!
He writes all the lyrics I bet a few fans here are thinking wait he writes all the lyrics. I did.
Paul booth tattoo..nice!
I’m not of a fan of slayer nor exodus. Gary showed some strong personality traits that I was impressed with. His approach to life and music is inspirational. The staff at Nstuff music were well prepared for this clinic. Big ups for the Sarra boys, Dave Lewis, CC, Mike and Muscle beach. Hopefully this will be the start of more clinics to come.
Thanks brother! We appreciate the shoutout!
Been into exodus since fabulous disaster
How the fuck could you not like this guy......
High point of this clinic watching Gary be himself he’s a cool down to earth guy low point he’s 58 I’m 55 saw exodus from bonded by blood on. time is getting on
The fucking Lord 🤟🇦🇷
Gary is the man. King and Lombardo knew Hanneman was not coming back. During a European festival the two cruised the festival looking for replacements. Jeff had always said Gary is his replacement so as they got closer to the stage Exodus was playing at they knew Jeff was right it was a no brainer.
Guitar players just down pick constantly. I play drums and finding a down picker is hard.
Could anyone please tell me what riff he plays at 4:02? Or is he just making it up? Thank you!
🤘🤘
I wonder if I can ever make molecular testing this cool
Bien, bien, bien, interesante........
Gary Holt is the true master riffer, besides James Hetfield , -2 greats on the 6 strings that don t go unnoticed but never get the deserved respect they both deserve, Gary 's riffs are phenomenal just like James !! Old school metal with just plugging in and getting a sound that is great and the rest is in your hands but this new tech products are way too pricey and all this tech jibberish is way beyond my point, its not my stuff but too each his own !
15:02 deep😔
This guy is fucking cool
Gary Holt is the shit... funny as fuck, knows what to say and still keeping the attitude cool \,,/
What is on his shirt? I can't stop looking at it.
GARY HOLT!!! MY HERO!!! WITH TOM HUNTING!
Only Dimebag could compete with him
I love gary holt top 3 4 favorite guitar players...but he couldn't hold dimebags nuts in his mouth...like I said I love gary but dimes my hero. Love you fellow metal head...no disrespect...Just saying My opinion. It holds no weight. It's just out there.
What did the guy in the audience at 15:50 say? I can't hardly hear him but it sounds like he made one huge positive compliment towards or about Gary Holt. Anyone know what he said!?
That was me! I originally asked Gary if he had any positive advice about life and then complimented on Gary being a huge inspiration towards my guitar playing as a hearing-impaired guitar player. Been playing since I was 13 and never let my disability stop me from chugging out some br00tal riffs and he admired that compliment and the whole crowd gave a great round of applause. One of the most down to earth musicians I've ever met!
I totally forgot to respond to your comment, my apologies! That is awesome to hear though! I play electric guitar myself and i'm still trying to figure out my own material and riffs that i am trying to come up with. It's not easy by any means since i know and want a really good riff myself. In your opinion though, what would be a good starting point to making your own riff? I try and get inspiration from other bands but then nothing amazing ever happens. Got any suggestions!? I would gladly appreciate any advice!
Sure do brother! I'll post some riffage to my page soon. Just picked up an ESP LTD Vulture (Hetfield Sig Model) and it's absolutely gnarly!
RadeonPro1 - No problemo man. Life gets us busy - honestly, the best thing that improved my playing ten fold was to jam with a drummer. It helps you find the groove and I stick to the KISS method. (Keep It Simple Stupid). The best rock/metal bands made some of their most popular songs with simple riffs. Look how powerful the song Black Sabbath is and the majority of the song is like, 3 notes. Also, if you come down with something sick, write it down because the chances are you're going to forget it in a few days.
Absolutely man! I got a full time job going on now so it's hard to fit the time in to jam, usually i practice on the weekends if im not busy doing other stuff. I totally hear ya, some of the most amazing songs are simple and are easy to learn. For me personally, just playing some Black Sabbath riffs here and there reminds me to keep it simple when i come up with something new. I usually will come up with something new and record it on my phone right away so i can hear what i was playing but i definitely need to start writing the riffs out also. Keep up the good work doing whatever you are doing! Cheers!
@ 4:08......when it suddenly occurs to you......"Fuck. Did I........turn that burner on the stove off? Awww, fuck."
ive saved up for my first marshal head and cab, let the trile and error comence to find my sound!
Very fun times: turning up and messing with knobs to find the tones to inspire you!
Funny dude!
3:05 🤯
What's up with the audio?
Guitar looks killer. If only the inlays on the frets were red it would be even better.
Because Gary mentions Rob Dukes and Chris Adler, just imagine a band between the 3
now I want a kemper!
I just got one two months ago. I turned my nose up at them and even after I got one I kinda didn't want to like it cause I love tube amps but damn I love this thing. But your experience depends on the profile. For metal grab sinmix or reampzone profiles and you are golden.
did you get powered or unpowered?
@@guitaraddictsanonymous81 I went unpowered and got a 100 watt tube power amp and running it to an Orange PPC212.
7:56 BRAIN DEAD!!!
28:40 that's the riff that made me play again. He is awesome
Dude gary is def up there w zakk an
dime
Gary is a better person then guitar player and thats saying alot .
Oh my god Gary what has Slayer done too you!? Throw that wah pedal in the trash!!
what part of the store was his stage? I was worried it would be SRO and we be on sidewalk. lol
We actually borrowed a room across the street to host the clinic...We advertised room for 125 people....
N Stuff Music Good to know thx!🤘
Does anyone know what are the neck and bridge pickups this ESP guitar use?
Emg gary holt signature set it's an emg 81in the bridge and 89r in the neck
Actives for live shows and passive for studio...
he looks extreme for a grand dad tho
...If YOU say so. ..
Kemper Profiler ? no Dsl 100 why ?
David Huizhao Qu he has his modded Marshall’s profiled on it
Ryleigh 11 too expensive to fly with dsl100? I thought all musicians are millionaires owning their jet aircrafts?
David Huizhao Qu The Kemper is just a lot easier for most touring musicians these days, it’s a lot cheaper and you won’t have to worry about your head getting damaged. Although I’m sure he just uses the kemper because he prefers his modded Marshall’s over a DSL-100 and he’s said in other interviews his 1987 modded Marshall’s don’t leave his house.
yo Gary Holt vapes! that looks like a kangertech on the table behind him
gary is an heavy smoker , i can tell for sure , few years ago i was at exodus gig , rainy day waiting outside the club, he comes out and ask for a cigarett, we talk for maybe 20 minutes and 5 of my cigs are gone! but after the show he comes with a full package and give it to me !
he's just amazing
Jam drew rich on Spotify for free
Grinder IS a hard song to play if you want it to sound as solid as that. Playing it sloppy is easy as shit! 29:20
If dime played active
I'd sell my families souls for his blood splattered Shecter V
Sound like Zakk cause milking the effects. Needs go to the raw bay sound of no fx
That moving disco light bugs big time. Turning off this video.
cool guy, fine player, but Prince the greatest musician ? No way!
great riffs but solos sucks
circular saw Sound💩💩💩
This Sound sucks🥶🥶🤢🥶🥶
After Prince died I kept hearing how amazing a musician he was. I know that he was a talented guitarist but I've always considered him to be overrated and pretentious. I went back and listened to some of his stuff to see if I was missing something or if it appealed to me more now that I'm older but I didn't like it any more than I did in the eighties. I think Gary is just being gracious in describing prince the way he does.
Чет не нравится мне этот Гари Болт
