What an incredible youtube channel. Combining two of the best hobbies, cooking and woodworking, hosted by a likable, funny and wholesome woodworker, complimented with plenty of animals and beautiful natural vistas. This has quickly become my favourite youtube channel!
The pile series is probably my favorite because it's so inspiring. I do leatherwork and I constantly have to look in my scrap bin, or at my bigger leftover pieces from projects to get ideas to try new things. Anyway, I love your videos and always look forward to them. Keep being yourself, Justin!
I love that you aren’t afraid of showing things that doesn’t go well. Like the microphone and loosing track of your tools. It makes you a normal person and not a superhuman like some others portrait themselves. And as a Dane I love that you share some of our customs.
Could you do an episode where you make something for Miles and Salem? I'd love to get to know them more x Maybe a pet bowl or a hook to keep collars on? Or a cat tree lol
I'm Danish and I gotta say, your pronounciation of æbleskiver is really good! And the ones you made looked sooo good too! Great content, always nice to see Danish treats be enjoyed abroad 👍
My grandmother who was fully Danish (she passed away years ago now) would have loved to have seen this video. Heck the fact you made abilskeever (I can't spell) and had lingonberries! Kudos my friend kudos. If I new danish I would congratulate you in Danish as well. Sadly I don't know how to do so.
While we don't have a 'kudos' expression in Danish, if I were to congratulate this video in a similar manner, I'd probably say "godt arbejde!" (pronounced like "god ah-by-duh"), meaning 'good work'. I hope this is of use :)
4:19 - All ready to work. "Now where did I put that chisel? I just had it. I set it down somewhere. Here? No. Over here? No. What was I doing; where did I have it last? I gotta look around..." "Found it! Back to work!" This is my inner monologue every single time I get to work on a project. Especially when I JUST had the Thing in my hands, like, two seconds ago. I cannot continue work without the Thing, and I know I just had the Thing, but I cannot locate the extremely necessary Thing. Then I turn around, and there is the Thing, blithely resting exactly where I put it, that I simply couldn't remember. Very relatable content, Justin!!
Last summer I inherited an entire wood shop worth of equipment from a family friend who passed. The only woodworking I’ve ever done was in 6th grade shop class… Your vids inspired me to take up the hobby so now I have a use for all that equipment taking up half of my garage lol. (Also, I put two of your state stickers [WV] in my parents’ Christmas gifts this year and they loved them and instantly put them on their cars haha 👍🏻)
I just finished off a project with Apple wood accents and man is that wood beautiful. It's amazing how much natural color variation there is in the wood. The more mature wood has a rich darker brown heartwood and a nice cream colored sapwood. Then there's the younger wood which has a lighter heartwood and this wierldy pink sapwood! I have a bunch of pieces with the bright pink sapwood and I don't quite know what to do with them but I know there'll be a project someday that will be perfect!
It’s nice seeing in the comments at 2:00 that there are other people who also can’t sleep and are instead watching a relaxing video about some guy making something out of wood.
I love your content! Inspired me to get a laithe for Christmas and make some things out of the wood in my own backyard. So far have a small jewelry box and a bowl and am going to start on a cup soon! Eventually I hope to have equipment like yours. Keep up the beautiful work
I haven’t turned anything in over 15 years. Your videos are awesome and really making me want to buy a new lathe! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
This was a great video! I didn't know the Peters Jul bit at all, but it makes sense since that book in many ways is really pivotal for Danes' understanding of Christmas. Your pronunciation is wonderful; as is your powdered sugar pile next to the æbleskiver. Keep up the good work and keep this cottage-core, educational, creative style going - your RUclips channel is a one of a kind
omg the danish in the end, it's perfect! Your choice of words and pronunciation is exactly like that of some farmer from Jutland. I don't think I have ever seen danish culture being represented this faithfully and lovingly on the internet before
You sounded very Jutland there, sir. As always, I love to hear your voice and learn from you. I'm so glad you get to do the things you love. Learn, educate, create.
@@Miss_Dita he does great at research and representing a culture he very much cares for. Even though he is not a native. Love for culture and learning are passions of mine personally. The content is perfect for that.
Wow what a lovely style plate beautiful and specially the colours and grain!! So cool to see you make something different you are constantly evolving your techniques and art and as always you made me want to eat something sweet and home baked ❤❤❤
Traditionally, "æbleskiver" were flavoured with a piece of fruit, commonly apple, baked inside, which was over time replaced by a glob of jam, but I think people decided it wasn't worth the hassle of adding either so now we just put the jam on top. Also we usually buy them frozen and bake them, which may be the practical reason for this change. I've only had home-made ones once... I think people buy the specialized pans used for it, but often never end up using it 😂The girl who made æbleskiver for our friends was at that moment basically a shaman, a wise woman and keeper of lost knowledge...
Woww the ableskiver look legit, exactly how my dad used to make when I was a kid, this takes me back. Gonna have to dig out the old pan and make some. Awesome stuff
Æble skiver would be appel skyfies in my west friesian dialect, comes close I think. I have had poffertjes many times and was very lucky to have tasted Tako yaki in Osaka, the best I think. I’m looking forward to visit Denmark and try some æble skiver. This episode made me hungry😂 I love what you do. A beautiful end result again.
Seriously though, I love watching your videos. Your knowledge of trees and personality is exactly what I need when I'm down. Also, my late grandpa was an avid woodworker (idk if that's a word or not) and I hope to learn woodworking as soon as I get a house, continuing his legacy.
I've got a lot of Scandinavian in my heritage so seeing a video mentioning æbleskivers was an immediate click (well...tap...... but anyways-) It was like a double treat, seeing how beautiful the insides of your apple tree bits turned out AND finally seeing someone make an æbleskiver that doesn't immediately fail bc omg I suck at making them. Gonna rewatch this again after a trip to the store tomorrow so I can give em another try. It's been years since I had any that were properly made and not total monstrosities 😂 aaaaand I just bought some lingonberry jam two weeks ago so it's perfect timing!
Can't wait to see what you do with Arizona. Mesquite is amazing. Everyone uses it to smoke meat, but the beans are amazing to cook with. Mom used to make flour from them for pancakes
I took woodshop for 5 years in school. (3 in middle and 2 in high school) The lathe is the only tool I never got to use. Because the boys were always on it. So I made a cradle all my nieces and nephews slept in, a dollhouse to scale, and other things.
I have no clue how long it takes to turn a plate like this, but it would be super interesting to see a video with no cuts to see the entire process! Love seeing you and your work, keep it up! 😊
Idea for a future episode: make a grole! Wikipedia can explain more thoroughly than I, but it's sort of like a teapot with multiple short spouts made for sharing a flaming coffee cocktail with friends après-ski.
So, I have a cool idea for you to try in one of your videos from one tree lover to another. Last year I went outside and harvested a huge amount of crab apples from the tree behind my house. I used them to make a big batch of crab apple cider, and it was delicious and tart. Highly recommend, and maybe you would want to try making some yourself, and make something out of the wood too. I would love to see it, and keep up the great work!
i doubt anyone is gonna know this but we have a dish in south india that looks exactly like this and there's a bunch of different names for it depending on the state but it's called paniyaram/appe/paddu in the various south indian states! there are two varieties, sweet and savoury. both made up of rice and lentil batter with jaggery in the sweet version and onions and idk curry leaves and stuff in the savoury one. the sweet ones are eaten on their own with no sides but the savoury ones are typically eaten with sambar and/or chutney. and i had it for dinner last night! anyway, great video as always!!
Hey I know this is an old video and you probably won't see this, but I noticed your egg whites were over whipped. If they get to looking like that and having that weird, grainy texture, you can throw another egg white in there and briefly whip it back in until incorporated. It'll bring it back to a smoother, fluffier consistency
great videos to put in the background while i sew :) i'm making a wobbegong shark plushie as a graduation gift for my friend and now i realllyyyy want some apple pie, which i think i might make tomorrow also
I know I'm late to this but at 1:22 2 logs above your foot theres a log that has a dark center with a pale ring on the outside I feel like a peice made from that wood (hehe) be interesting to see, it has a nice deep colour to it
