That empty rocking chair with the guitar on it represents the great Roy Orbison, who died before the video was recorded. They show it, and his photo, as you hear his voice. Watch it again; it will bring tears to your eyes.
Loved how you both just lit up when this started. An amazing uplifting song with a great message! This was written by the some of the greatest musicians of all time! This group had Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne (ELO), George Harrison (Beatles). One of my most favorite songs ever!! Great reaction! Try "Handle with Care" next!!
Shawn and Mel...This band was made up of...George Harrison of The Beatles, Roy Orbison, who had passed away before this video was made and whose picture was displayed along with his guitar on the rocking chair in tribute, the great Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne, leader of the band ELO, Tom Petty and also Jim Keltner on drums , who has played drums for John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr and many other great musicians. This is the cream of the crop in rock music! Rock Royalty! All other bands bow before them.

Per Songfacts "End Of The Line" became a eulogy of sorts for Roy Orbison, who died on December 6, 1988, just six weeks after the album was released. His work in the Traveling Wilburys brought him back to the fore after many years of obscurity. Orbison was one of the biggest stars of the '60s, but his '70s albums had little impact, and by the '80s he was struggling to fill small theaters. Before his death, he completed a comeback album with his fellow Wilburys called Mystery Girl, which was released on January 31, 1989, just as "End Of The Line" was climbing the charts. The album did very well, selling over a million copies in America and a lot more worldwide. The single "You Got It" landed at #9 in the US in April 1989, giving him his first Top 10 hit since "(Oh) Pretty Woman" in 1964.
Don't forget Roy's "I Drove All Night" in 1992. " I Drove All Night " is a song written and composed by American songwriters Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly and originally intended for Roy Orbison. Orbison recorded the song in 1987, the year before his death, but his version was not released until 1992.
Jeff Lynne co-wrote and produced hugely successful albums for George Harrison (Cloud Nine), Tom Petty (Full Moon Fever), and Roy Orbisan (Mystery Girl), right before The Wilburys got together. It was part of the catalyst of the formation of the band.
They ALL wrote this song while hanging out at Bob's studio in Malibu, Los Angeles CA The first lead singer at 1:20 is George Harrison the The Beatles (25 February 1943 - 29 November 2001) from Liverpool England The second lead singer at 1:45 is Tom Petty (October 20, 1950 - October 2, 2017) from Gainseville Florida The third lead singer at 2:05 is Jeff Lynne of ELO (born 30 December 1947) from Birmingham, England The fourth lead singer at 2:50 is Roy Orbison. April 23, 1936 - December 6, 1988) He had passed away before the video was made so you see his photo in a picture frame and his guitar in a rocking chair. He was from Vernon TX The last lead singer at is Bob Dylan (born May 24, 1941) from Duluth MN
You´re right Mel they wrote this song all together. Traveling Wilburys released two albums, Vol 1 and Vol 3. Think it was a George Harrison joke to name second album Vol 3.
Yes. According to Mo Ostin, it was George's suggestion. He'd become aware of a bootleg being sold, which he wryly called "Vol.2" & suggested they title their 2nd album Wilburys Vol.3.
That one sure brought a tear to my eye. It was so nice seeing them all alive and performing together. I sure miss Tom Petty he was one of my favorites. George Harrison too. I thought I was hearing Roy Orbison but didn't see him, then they showed the rocking chair with his picture on it. I think I also saw Bob Dylan. Great video loved the vibe.
@Scott Alexander and that was when you hear Roy's voice singing. The song and the album VOL.2 were recorded before Roy died. He passes away 8 days before the video was made.
Done said this is a supergroup. Eerily enough, Roy Orbison's last big hit with them, "The End Of The Line". We hear him singing, see his photo, & his guitar in his haunted rocking chair - rocking. 2 more haunted rocking chairs now - one for George Harrison, one for Tom Petty. Both gone too soon. A great version of George's song he wrote while with The Beatles, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", was played at the tribute concert for George, & featured George's son, Dhani, Tom Petty & Jeff Lynne from The Wilburys, & Prince, who played one of the greatest guitar solos of all time. Might want to check it out. P.S. - also features the great Steve Winwood on guitar.
This song is one of my favorites. Icons in the music industry getting together and forming a band while still playing with their own bands. Giving shout outs to artists no longer with them like Jimi Hendrix in the lyrics. How cool is that? Plus the tribute with the guitar and rocking chair to their former band mate Roy Orbison who sings in this track. Why can't modern day artists get together and do this? Put aside the competition and just jam :) Thank you for sharing this one!

The birth of the Traveling Wilburys was a happy accident. When discussing who the other members might be, Harrison chose Bob Dylan and Lynne opted for Roy Orbison. The term "Wilbury" also originated during the Cloud Nine sessions. Harrison and Lynne became friends with Tom Petty in October 1987, when Petty and his band, the Heartbreakers, toured Europe as Dylan's backing group. The friendship continued in Los Angeles later that year. There, Harrison struck up a musical rapport with Petty based on their shared love of 1950s rock 'n' roll, and Lynne began collaborating with Petty on what became the latter's debut solo album, Full Moon Fever, and writing songs with Orbison, Lynne's longtime musical hero,[18] for Orbison's comeback album, Mystery Girl.[19][20] According to Petty, Harrison's dream for the Wilburys was to handpick the participants and create "the perfect little band", but the criteria for inclusion were governed most by "who you could hang out with". The five musicians also bonded over a shared appreciation of the English comedy troupe Monty Python. Harrison, who had worked with the members of Monty Python on various productions by his company HandMade Films since the late 1970s, particularly appreciated Orbison's gift for impersonation and his ability to recite entire sketches by the troupe.
Lefty's ( Roy) in the Rock and Roll chair sending a bit of heaven . So sweet and smooth ! It's alright getting old and ...well I haven't grayed but ya know b!😉
This is my all time favorite song. It never ceases to make me feel good when I hear it. I’d like to think that if there is an afterlife, the Traveling Wilburys will be there waiting to serenade us. Well, once Lynn and Dylan are there. ✌️
Can’t believe you don’t know who this band is made up of! You like ELO so much and the lead singers in this band! You not hear Roy Orbison singing in there? This was recorded just before he passed! These guys are music Legends!
Yet another review by people who spend hours every day watching music videos, yet, apparently, didn’t know who they were watching. If they did I’m amazed they didn’t even mention the geniuses in the band, and if they didn’t, what are they learning everyday? A fantastic group of amazing musicians with a super song.
I enjoy your positivity. Occasionally, it feels a bit forced, but overall, you are genuine, heartfelt people. Pay no mind to the emotional flatulence of the nay-sayers. You get to enjoy the music, you are doing it together. Thank you for the uplift you give me daily. You're awesome, BAM!
Ex Beatle George Harrison had the concept of this band in his mind and pulled his friends together to form the group. Probably the greatest amount of talent ever assembled in one band. I don't even know if I would call them a band as a band would be defined. I've always looked at them as 5 old pals who enjoyed getting together to make music with one another. They never toured with one another because they all had their own very successful solo careers. After the insanity of the whole Beatlemania and The Beatles thing, he wanted nothing to do with big tours and stuff like that. Just having Dylan and himself in this band would make it a super band. He wrote this song and gave Tom Petty the bulk of the singing. George kicked of the vocals and returned at the end. Another must watch official video is "Handle With Care" which George wrote and handles the lead vocals on. Great song and video Such a cool chill vibe short lived band this was. ☮️✌️💕👌
It was a brilliant idea.. he made a legendary group all over again. It's good they didn't replace people when they left.. more honest that way. So the type of company that Roy Orbison kept he worked with gods and she was also a music God. Oh I miss Roy.
Awww, just look at the empty rocking chair with a guitar on it. That's for band member Roy Orbison, who sadly passed away before this song was released. Do you recognise all the Superstars in this band? Jeff Lynn (ELO) George Harrison (The Beatles) Bob Dylan, Tom Petty & of course Roy Orbison, who is obviously not ther but you can still hear his voice. A real supergroup. 💯 ❤🎵🎙🎸

A lot of great people in that band , Tom Petty from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Bob Dylan Roy Orbison George Harrison from The Beatles also Jeff Lynn from The electric light Orchestra
& Legendary drummer, Jim Keltner. Pre-Wilburys had worked with Bob Dylan, George Harrison & Roy Orbison. Also with; Barbra Streisand, BB King, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Pink Floyd, John Lennon, Carley Simon, Simon & Garfunkel, Joe Cocker & Many more. His credits are staggering.
Before I could write a reply, I had to check out Wikipedia's comments. they are usually the most accurate. The group did kinda start out as an accident. Each of the guys knew each other as friends and even performed together from time to time both in public and in private. Roy Orbison probably helped to inspire them as song writers growing up. "Pretty Woman" inspired the movie by the same name. All of them, except for Jeff Lynne (I don't know about his personal life). had experienced great heights as stars but fame didn't bring them a comfortable life, and I think they missed the early days when music was fun. Mel was very insightful when she said how the songs were written. They'd get together and start throwing out ideas and each contributed something. The fictional story of them all having the same father but different mothers is sort of true. When you meet someone and it feels like you've known them all your life, people say "We are brothers with different mothers." They all survived by having faith and a sense of humor which is throughout the album. They are critical of the current music industry and its focus on the negative for profit on for instance Dylan may have written angry or bluesy songs but he also wrote spiritual and great love songs. It was done to keep the balance. Roy Orbison had a comfortable life from his old fame and to keep busy would travel around doing concerts for people who loved his old songs. Tragedy struck him, his long time wife died, his expensive home burnt down and his meager income earned from the tours was only enough to barely survive. Jeff Lynn who idolized, Roy brought him into the group to show he wasn't forgotten. Everyone in the music industry respected him including Elvis. They went back a long, long way when they toured together. If you watched "End of the Line" the companion song was "Handle Me With Care" which Orbison was the primary writer. Instead of moping over Roy's death, the boys did what Roy would have wanted and set up the empty rocking chair with Roy's guitar in it, as if his ghost was still around. Beautiful. Being able to use and communicate the ups and downs of life is what makes the true artist special from the want -a-be's. and imitators. With all of them, the music is more important than the group and their individual egos. It's more important than making mega-bucks. While the music is about them, their prime concern is giving their fans something they can take home in their hearts. Peace and Love. 🙂🙃😇😁 Hope I covered all the emojis.
That song says it all when my father died of 87 years back in 2015 all of the kids and grandkids and everybody and all the friends of the neighborhood and everybody showed up he was a World War II vet I followed the coffin as we were in The Possession going to the Lincoln Cemetery in Illinois veterans Cemetery and my last daughter was riding with me and my wife my fifth daughter anyways all of us were there but she said Play the song dad and so I played it we're going to the end of the line my father did so many different things for a lot of different people raised us right he was part of the greatest Generation I am his baby boomer this song I played it over and over until we got to the cemetery and then they took him had the three gun salute and all that I played that song till the end it says it all those guys in the lyrics says it all there's nothing else you can say if we could all do what they're saying in the song we could have peace on Earth but because of what's happening in our country now and around the world disgusting evil lies cheating greed everything that the Bible talks about I'm waiting to be able to see my father and my mother and my oldest son again he died in 17 my dad died in 15 my mom died in 16 my son died and 17 left us two children he had custody of them both cuz it's stupid f****** crazy b****** women but he's in a better place I know that Jesus was standing there on the CD the computer desk that the detectors gave us he was standing there waiting for him it was an image that was on the computer that we washed and the detective says he doesn't understand who that is they couldn't confirm that person so I know where my son is he went to the end of the line but because of what God says in the Bible when God tells his son it's done Jesus will blow the breath of life back into the people that died in Christ which I do know my son was a born again Christian I watched it I seen him how he did with his children and I tell my grandson Cody a cerebral palsy boy that was a baby when they adopted him and the wife took off because she couldn't deal with him but he's 15 now I tell him every time I see him when he comes to my house you will see your daddy again we will all be together again this song says it all to me thanks for playing it I'm sorry I might have said too much good day to everyone please try to find some kind of Happiness within all The Nasty greed and Evil
Man... you know I always forget that Bob Dylan was in that group? Damn it. I remembered Jeff Lynne this time I remembered George I remember Tom because all I really remember is really cuz that's why I started listening hello Roy if Roy is there I'm down ..I'm there.
George Harrison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan and of course Roy Orbison……all those iconic voices coming together, absolutely amazing. Of course Roy died before they shot the video, so they included his guitar in the rocking chair and his picture on the table.
The things you find in this life are not to be possessed, they are to be treasured in your memories. You cannot take it with you so just try and be happy with the life you are given.

The Traveling Wilburys is a rock supergroup from 1988, made up of Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, & Jeff Lynne. They had a lot of great songs such as "Handle With Care", "Heading For The Light", "Inside Out", "Tweeter & The Monkey Man", "Dirty World", "Last Night", "She's My Baby", "Rattled", "Nobody's Child", "Congratulations" etc. Sadly only 2 guys are now left from this group (Bob Dylan & Jeff Lynne).
This is a SUPER GROUP that will be hard to beat Bob Dylan , Jeff Lynn ( ELO ) , George Harrison ( The Beatles ) , Tom Petty & Roy Orbison . R.I.P too George , Tom & Roy 🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵
You were right Mel. They all contributed in the writing (but mainly George Harrison) of the lyrics & the music to this song (all their songs to be fair)? "Handle With Care" & "Wilbury Twist" are working a listen. So are the other songs, but I'm tired and I wanna go to sleep so I'll leave it there for now. 😉 Love peace & respect guys. ❤
AND YOU'RE RIGHT MEL!😊 ALL OF UM HAD INPUT INTO THE LYRICS, I THINK THE WHOLE OLD AND GRAY WAS POINTED AT DYLAN, HE'S THE ONLY ONE THAT'S GRAY IN 88 SO! 😊BUT THEY ALL HAD INPUT INTO THE VERSES.

It was a brilliant idea.. he made a legendary group all over again. It's good they didn't replace people when they left.. more honest that way. So the type of company that Roy Orbison kept he worked with gods and she was also a music God. Oh I miss Roy.
Just 5 rock n roll hall of famers jamming
Arguably the greatest Group by personnel.
The greatest Super Group ever!!
Great group
Awww, just look at the empty rocking chair with a guitar on it. That's for band member Roy Orbison, who sadly passed away before this song was released. Do you recognise all the Superstars in this band? Jeff Lynn (ELO) George Harrison (The Beatles) Bob Dylan, Tom Petty & of course Roy Orbison, who is obviously not ther but you can still hear his voice. A real supergroup. 💯 ❤🎵🎙🎸
Rock In Peace George, Roy and Tom.
Arguably the greatest super group off all time. Even better when it's just a bunch of friends getting together to make music.
I love your smiles!
Shawn and Mel, Keep playing and reacting to all genres of music, and do not let the critics get to you. Thanks for playing The Traveling Wilburys "End of the Line". Here are a few more Traveling Wilburys songs to check out: "Handle With Care" ruclips.net/video/1o4s1KVJaVA/видео.html; "She's My Baby" ruclips.net/video/BnD0H4VeHuY/видео.html; "Tweeter and the Monkey Man" ruclips.net/video/Xharg7Nkbdw/видео.html; "Inside Out" ruclips.net/video/fq5yHdVKSQs/видео.html; and "Wilbury Twist" ruclips.net/video/VrwIoIGfFIU/видео.html. Take care.
That right there is the supergroup of all supergroups!!
You gotta check out "Tweeter and the Monkeyman" by them. The lyrics/story are wild (written by Bob Dylan).
Do you realize the legends you are listening to? George Harrison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynn ...
+ Bob Dylan, and Roy Orbison (who died after the recording, represented by the empty rocking chair with the guitar on it)
Before I could write a reply, I had to check out Wikipedia's comments. they are usually the most accurate.
The group did kinda start out as an accident. Each of the guys knew each other as friends and even
performed together from time to time both in public and in private. Roy Orbison probably helped to inspire
them as song writers growing up. "Pretty Woman" inspired the movie by the same name.
All of them, except for Jeff Lynne (I don't know about his personal life). had experienced great heights as
stars but fame didn't bring them a comfortable life, and I think they missed the early days when music was
fun. Mel was very insightful when she said how the songs were written. They'd get together and start throwing
out ideas and each contributed something. The fictional story of them all having the same father but different
mothers is sort of true. When you meet someone and it feels like you've known them all your life, people say
"We are brothers with different mothers."
They all survived by having faith and a sense of humor which is throughout the album. They are critical of
the current music industry and its focus on the negative for profit on for instance Dylan may have written
angry or bluesy songs but he also wrote spiritual and great love songs. It was done to keep the balance.
Roy Orbison had a comfortable life from his old fame and to keep busy would travel around doing
concerts for people who loved his old songs. Tragedy struck him, his long time wife died, his expensive
home burnt down and his meager income earned from the tours was only enough to barely survive.
Jeff Lynn who idolized, Roy brought him into the group to show he wasn't forgotten. Everyone in the
music industry respected him including Elvis. They went back a long, long way when they toured together.
If you watched "End of the Line" the companion song was "Handle Me With Care" which Orbison was
the primary writer. Instead of moping over Roy's death, the boys did what Roy would have wanted and
set up the empty rocking chair with Roy's guitar in it, as if his ghost was still around. Beautiful.
Being able to use and communicate the ups and downs of life is what makes the true artist special
from the want -a-be's. and imitators. With all of them, the music is more important than the group and
their individual egos. It's more important than making mega-bucks. While the music is about them,
their prime concern is giving their fans something they can take home in their hearts. Peace and Love.
🙂🙃😇😁 Hope I covered all the emojis.
You certainly hit me in the feels.💧

They wrote and recorded the album pretty much one track per day. You can do this when you have some of the most experienced musicians in all of rock.
man,,,,lot of rock history in that train
Man... you know I always forget that Bob Dylan was in that group?
This is the BEST group that nobody has heard of.
Jim Keltner rules!
super GOAT group!
The things you find in this life are not to be possessed, they are to be treasured in your memories. You cannot take it with you so just try and be happy with the life you are given.
THE BEST [PART OF THIS VIDEO...IS WHEN THEY PAN THE GROUP AND YOU SEE A ROCKING CHAIR WITH ROY ORBINSONS GUITAR INT AND ITS ROCKING....HE DIED WHILE MAKING THIS VIDEO....AND THERE'S NOT A BETTER TRIBUTE TO HONOR HIM THAN HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THIS SONG.....MY JAW HIT THE FLOOR WHEN I SAW HAT AND MADE THIS WHOLE TUNE TAKE A NEXT LEVEL UP ON RESPECT AND ADMIRATION FOR A FELLOW BAND MATE......NOT ONLY IS IT A KILLER SONG....BUT THAT IMAGE MADE IT THAT MUCH BETTER.....
So sad there are only two of them with us today
The Traveling Wilburys is a rock supergroup from 1988, made up of Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, & Jeff Lynne. They had a lot of great songs such as "Handle With Care", "Heading For The Light", "Inside Out", "Tweeter & The Monkey Man", "Dirty World", "Last Night", "She's My Baby", "Rattled", "Nobody's Child", "Congratulations" etc. Sadly only 2 guys are now left from this group (Bob Dylan & Jeff Lynne).
And the great Jim Keltner on drums
@@MUE4731 Yes, he often gets forgotten.
Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, George Harrison, Jeff Lynn, Bob Dylan Jeff Keltner SUPERGROUP!
Roy Orbison is depicted with his guitar in the rocking chair
THE TRAVELING WILBURYS - Handle with Care. Roy was still alive to be in the official video
Wilbury Twist is a fun song of theirs
RIP to George Harrison and Tom petty as well as Roy Orbison..
AND YOU'RE RIGHT MEL!😊 ALL OF UM HAD INPUT INTO THE LYRICS, I THINK THE WHOLE OLD AND GRAY WAS POINTED AT DYLAN, HE'S THE ONLY ONE THAT'S GRAY IN 88 SO! 😊BUT THEY ALL HAD INPUT INTO THE VERSES.
YOU GUYS NEED TO DO : HANDLE WITH CARE, SO YOU CAN SEE ROY😊
George Harrison, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison (sorry, I forgot the name of the drummer..) The super group to end all others. Other tracks of theirs to check out 'Handle Me With Care' and 'She's My Baby'
