If you have a habit of fueling your car or truck and when the gas nozzle clicks but you keep pumping because your trying to round up that next whole dollar...STOP DOING THAT. Your overfilling your tank which causes fuel to enter your vapor canister. Once raw fuel is in the canister, the canister is now destroyed. You might not get a check engine light but you will noticd your fuel economy is now slowly dropping and the engine starts having a little shake to her at idle. Change the vapor canister and vapor control solenoid. Hope this helps.
Hey just came across your comment i did over fill twice and one day turned my car on normally gt to work then was going to move to a different location and my car started after awhile on idle turned off and when i turned key to give it gas it just spit fuel on floor.
@julioocampo9755 yeah when you overfill your tank, the fuel vapors will create pressure. If there is too much pressure then gas will escape with the vapors out of the filler neck and spill onto the ground.
Thank you for the advice man, usually here in lebanon, almost every single gas station worker does this. Next time I fill up my car im going to make sure the person thats filling it doesnt do this. One time, they kept on filling it to the point where the gas started to overflow from the car

I cleaned a bunch of sensors and tested sensors to be sure they were working. Finally got the computer to give a code and it turned out to be a problem with the Gas pedal putting it in limp mode. The dealer couldn’t find anything wrong when I was able to provide them with the code they found that there was a loose plug that connects to the panel. I don’t know if it was the plug going to the harness or the plug going to the pedal, but the wiring harness had recently been replaced, and there must’ve been a loose plug probably at the harness. Problem is fixed.

I changed the solenoid too. It's not the solenoid, it's the charcoal canister. The evap solenoid is also called the PURGE solenoid. The charcoal canister is also called the EVAP or VAPOR canister. It's confusing, but they are different parts. Solenoid under hood and easy. Canister under car and a bit more involved.

Have you tried warming the canister a bit, (100 to 115 F) and pulling several inches of vacuum for a couple of hours? If the vehicle set unused for months, the charcoal may have become saturated with heavier than normal vapor that is not quickly released by the charcoal.
Did you figure out this problem? Please let me know. I changed out my leaking gas lines on a 2004 Grand Am, and now there's a small liquid gas leak in a big hose that connects the Charcoal Canister to the Canister VENT Valve Solenoid. This seems to be kind of like your problem. Thanks!
On top of the gas tank is a cap. On the cap you'll see a 1- 2 inch round rubber hose, the hose is attached to the gas tank cap on the left side of cap, on the cap is a connector the hose is attached to; that connector cracks and causes fuel to leak into the hose, that contaminates inside of the evap canister Contact mechanic and have mechanic inspect the connector
For just a little 4 cyl. Daily driver car, shits over 100$ just for the canister. Screw that. I've seen a video where the guy used a air compressor in the vent line that leads to the canister, popped the hose in between the canister and the vent line that leads up to where you put your gas cap on, blew out both ends and he could refill again without replacing the whole unit

My sentra 2006 is doing just that , gas vapor inside the cab, poor milage and the check engine just came on,also, an uneven, rough idle. Could it be the valve alone or the whole canister??

I have had code P0456 & P0442. I have replaced the gas cap(OEM), purge valve (under the hood) & EGR valve. Still getting the same codes and car feel like it is rough idling about to stall at a dead stop. I have located the charcoal canister. Do you think that may be the problem? I do notice a gas smell.
Did you ever end up finding the problem? I’m having the same issue on a range rover
@@basharalgahim63 not at all. The leak seems to be coming near the fuel pump/tank. Taking to a mechanic next Tues. Hopefully he figures it out
i allready change solenoid under hood , solenoid on tank , and still have check engine with p0442 , but i dont have any simptoms like in this video...should i replace canister ?
Try replacing the gas cap.
You always help me but you gotta stop putting “failed emissions test” as a symptom for everything from 02 sensors to bad batteries it’s very confusing
A lot of things can cause "failed emissions test" as they operate in conjunction with the other systems.
I just changed out that evap solenoid a month ago. Now the light's on again with the same code. Ideas?
Did you figure it out?
I changed the solenoid too. It's not the solenoid, it's the charcoal canister.
The evap solenoid is also called the PURGE solenoid. The charcoal canister is also called the EVAP or VAPOR canister.
It's confusing, but they are different parts. Solenoid under hood and easy. Canister under car and a bit more involved.

@@lextmbP0442 is a small evap leak. I traced mine to a rusted out fuel pump that had a slight crack. Was leaking gas out ever so slightly. P0455 is a large evap leak. I had that as well and traced it to a faulty vent valve solenoid. But with your P0442, best course of action would be a smoke test. Pressurize system with smoke and look for where it’s coming out. Could be gas cap, filler neck rusted, etc. Good luck.
Hello. I replace my charcoal canister but when I gas, it's still clicking. My engine light is not on. What could it be?
change the canister 'purge valve as well'..!
What if i fill up my tank and the car wont turn over when i try to start. Then it does, p0441. Running lean.
Good video
Thank you!
Wouldn't this cause fuel trim issues as well. P0175 and what not
Possibly but my Toyota is not throwing any check engine light codes and the line is totally blocked.
I'm asking for my own benefit. I have actually bank 2 rich fuel trim. Replaced all kinds of shit. My tank doesn't take the gas pump well. So. I'm thinking canister might be a problem
I had this problem on my '02 Toyota Sienna and paid about "400 for one
I cannot find the evaporation canister on my '23 Chevy Bolt EUV 😂
Good job
Can this cause white smoke ?
No, white smoke is usually oil/coolant burning. You most likely have a blown head gasket.
Have a 06 Sentra and been trying to fix code p0448 took it too few mechanics change parts code still shows
No CEL on my car yet...but the gas pump keeps shutting off.
Would this cause an engine to stall?
Yep . As I’m stopping at a red light the rpm goes up and down & starts to shake . pinging noises start to hear in the back of the car & it shuts off
Great video! Just don't know why there's a funny emphasis in your voice.!
I notice when i let my car get down to E when i fuel up and try to turn the car on it wont start. I have to hit the gas to get it to turn over. It turns just fine when my car has gas
Change the purge valve
All what you say Honest
I have no check engine light on
What if I put a gas pump in my gas tank and I hear air escaping?
I put my nose in a granny and now I have a check engine light, should I see a doc?
My system is when i fill the gas, and it keep shutting off, my charcoal canister is probably clogged..

.... thanks for video. So apparently there's no way to fix the canister, other than to replace it 🤔
From my experience, it needs to be replaced.
Have you tried warming the canister a bit, (100 to 115 F) and pulling several inches of vacuum for a couple of hours? If the vehicle set unused for months, the charcoal may have become saturated with heavier than normal vapor that is not quickly released by the charcoal.
This is costing me 900 dollars to get fixed!
Order it online and replace yourself, they're usually very easy to get to and replace
my 99 s10 center hose from the tank is putting gas into the charcoal filter and dumping out in the street through the foam filter. Can anybody help?
Did you figure out this problem? Please let me know. I changed out my leaking gas lines on a 2004 Grand Am, and now there's a small liquid gas leak in a big hose that connects the Charcoal Canister to the Canister VENT Valve Solenoid. This seems to be kind of like your problem. Thanks!
On top of the gas tank is a cap. On the cap you'll see a 1- 2 inch round rubber hose, the hose is attached to the gas tank cap on the left side of cap, on the cap is a connector the hose is attached to; that connector cracks and causes fuel to leak into the hose, that contaminates inside of the evap canister
Contact mechanic and have mechanic inspect the connector
I put 20 dollars in & it kept stopping I thought I had a full tank I was happy only to notice I was only on a half of tank🙄 now I see why
I get a fuel smell, but no codes, or check engine lights.
me too and rarely a little rough idle. 2022 crostrek 2.0l na only 17,755 miles. does alot of idling though
I have the issue with the gas pump... super annoying
Yeah, 130$ to fill my truck with Regular gas. FJB.
2nd that!
Forgot to say it is a 2002 Toyota sienna. Hope someone has an idea how to diagnose this problem! Thanks!
I always smell a gas smell.
Same occasionally a fuel smell
@@Clean-N-ShineInDfw My vapor canister purge valve is bad. It took me 6 years to figure it out. PO456 on a Corolla is gone now
For just a little 4 cyl.

My 14 Ford fusion starts farting and it stinks.
Couldnt you just remove this and get better performance

Biggest real life effect of a failed Evap is a Check engine light .
Firstly. WTF does EVAP even mean???? And why did google even sendme to some charcoal canisters biz??????
