Thanks to Franz Hopper’s journal, which they have finally deciphered, Jeremy understands what the virus tying Aelita to XANA is -- a fragment of Aelita herself that XANA has stolen. They must get it back at all costs if they want to finally pull the plug on the Super-computer and destroy XANA! But Aelita has been thrown into confusion by some of the revelations about herself in Franz Hopper’s journal. In a state, she risks her life by trying to switch off the Super-computer by herself. Jeremy comes to the rescue and manages to persuade her to take part in the final mission in Sector 5 to recover her missing fragment. The final combat against XANA is about to begin…
Franz Hopper lived the same day for almost seven years. No wonder he was losing it.
LogicOwl 2000 straight return to the past's. Crazy.
2,537 at least. the last journal entry is the day before he virtualized himself and aelita
That's probably how XANA got so powerful
And Franz never even realized it....
everyone in this post blew my mind for years watching this I never thought he rttp so many times
I just wanted to say that for a kid's TV show, this had some pretty dark moments, which is what makes it so legendary as a classic kid show. I think that is part of the reason why it still proves to still be a hit even today with the ones who saw it for the first time on TV who are now in their adult years. It wasn't afraid to get a little adult and a little dark yet just enough so it still got that kid rating.
For starters, these kids are barely teenagers and are put in life or death situations on a regular basis. XANA isn't afraid to get violent in order to get rid of them. How many times have these kids been simply electrocuted, choked, thrown like a rag doll and taken quite the beat down, nearly drowned or attacked by wild animals? And that is only a few on the list. Yet they still get through it and don't back out because they are still determined to see their mission right to the end.
And in this episode, Aelita basically tries to commit SUICIDE. All for the sake of saving her friends and the world. I never even realized what she was doing as a kid. At least, I didn't comprehend the true act of what she was doing. Now as a young adult, it's like, "Wow... that was actually pretty dark."
It's plot is excellent, it has excellent characters, it has excellent animation and a well told and smooth story line. This truly is one of the best animated shows of all time.
True
Aelita dies twice in this episode, once from suicide and another from virtual murder. Nearly every episode the gang gets incredibly close to death, whether it be from drowning, suffocating, cooking in a boiler room, freezing to death in an icy tundra while trapped beneath a fallen tree, electrocuted, or any number of ways they've faced death. This show is a _little_ more than a _little_ dark.
not to mention in one episode one of xana's attacks got a little to friendly with yumi
LovelyLies16 And I remember thinking this was gonna be one of those Xana free episodes (if I recall correctly). When that bubble burst and Xana's theme came on, I remember my heart feeling like it was gonna jump out of my chest.

Yeah let's talk about that... sarcasm intended.
This show was a hell of a lot darker than I remember.
Seamus McKenna me too, but I still enjoy watching it.
Seamus McKenna And I remember when that bubble burst and Xana's theme came on. I remember feeling an insane amount of dread when I realized it was all a ploy. The first time the series made me do that. Because in other episodes, you had an idea of where it was going.
But when that scene happened, I knew deep down it was gonna be different.
Ikr
But it's better for me
The fact that Aelita literally tries to commit sewerslide to save the world is as dark as it gets
yumi and ulrich have some SERIOUS communication issues.
Understatement of the year, my friend.
@?BehindTheMask¿ lmao William doesn't need to do anything. Ulrich and Yumi get in eachother's way by themselves.
@?BehindTheMask¿ Nah what I mean is they stop themselves from getting together. William doesn't even need to be there to cause problems for them, they do that themselves. And yeah relationships have problems, but there's focus more on their lack of trust and jealousy, which is a SERIOUS relationship killer.
@?BehindTheMask¿ Not to mention communication. It all just shows they wouldn't last because of these 3 factors.

what epidose of Code Lyoko XANA Death
_yep_
I think part of the reason for Yumi and Ulrich's communication issues are derived from the way their parents are. Yumi's parents always seem to be on the verge of divorce and don't communicate well, which makes Yumi reluctant to open up to someone she cares deeply for in fear of getting into a similar situation as her parents. And as we have seen from Ulrich's father, we see his father later on as well, his dad is very strict and doesn't communicate in a pleasant manner. Ulrich growing up in this kind of environment probably makes him fear for the worst in situations, so whenever he sees Yumi being reluctant to open up, he takes that as a sign of disinterest despite the fact that she has repeatedly shown how fond of him she is.
Also they are teenagers...
Personally I feel bad for Sissy and William because they are constantly used by Ulrich and Yumi to "get back" at each other despite Sissy and Williams feelings. They just don't deserve that.
nice details!
I never realized that til you pointed it out.
And yeah Sissi or William don't deserve that at all being used it's messed up.
wow this blow my mind
I disagree with that last part a bit, as William keeps interjecting himself like an idiot, Sissy tho does keep getting let down and bailed on at times when she really doesn't deserve it, but overall great analysis
watching Jeremy in despair while Aelita is having her memory taken away is one of the most heart wrenching things i will ever see...

This honestly proves how much of a father Franz was. XANA kills his daughter and he brings her back from the dead, no questions asked.
well I mean after 12 years of silence that's the best he could do to make up the time
Maybe he feels guilty and wants to make up for everything
@@TooMuchSascha I agree!
For all the danger he put his wife and daughter in for precisely being completely obsessed with trying to destroy project Carthage.
I feel like that's a pretty low bar.
Yeah aelita save thanks franz but now xana got keys to lyoko and out of supercomputer he free do whatever he wants
So since Hopper has been there literally the WHOLE time, I wonder what he thinks of the Lyoko warriors and how they're all just his daughter's bodyguards. I wonder how much he appreciates them, especially Jeremy, for all they've done
he was prison by Xana
I'm sure Hopper appreciates all they've done for Aelita and the fight against XANA.
Yeah, considering how he was hiding from the government, he was paranoid, trusting no one but himself and his daughter. Jeremie and the others were basically a godsend to him and his daughter

yea government oppression is horrible and swept under the rug in western countries its such a shame especially with how revolutionary the french are capable of becoming
@@ramuz-ff3cf You do have to admire the French for their willingness to protest, even if it doesn't always get covered.
@@delrunplays2903 oh yea don't get me wrong i have read about the Paris Communes and French Anarchists. France is an interesting example because they've always had some decent sized rural areas as compared to britain so their aristocracy has always had room to flourish and maintain a pretty tight grip on the state, which has often led to some intense revolutionary action by it's Proletariat which i wholeheartedly respect. and its really cool to see such good animes coming out of france at a time when they're mostly exporting neo colonialism and proxy wars with russia's wagner group, isis, and al qaueda in their former north african colonies (which are basically still their colonies in all but name due to the french forcing the franc on them which means their economies can be regulated by france and the eurozone as a form of neo-colonialism). and likely they might even start ww3 in africa instead of it starting in the middle east, east europe, or south china sea although western media doesn't really cover it
@@ramuz-ff3cf I've found The Duran is a fairly solid source of information regarding European matters if you're not already aware of them. They've covered France's various faux pas in recent times. Well she said that with the intention of shutting down the Supercomputer, giving herself the choice of never returning by killing herself, without putting the entire world in danger.
Evan Grimes you realize she is talking about committing suicide right? never realized that till a few years after watching the show but damn... that is deep. i love this show so much!

BEST ANIMATED SERIES EVER!!
MrAgux seriously this episode fucked me up lol
was just thinking a similar thought:Best cartoon directed at a young audience that's not a Japanese import. Truly an underrated show. Even as an adult I enjoy it , I grew up watching it. Forgot if I ever got to see it end or not though so here I am reliving my childhood lol I would love it if they brought this back through Cartoon Network or even Adult Swim. The animation doesn't feel dated. Voice acting is pretty good when you take into consideration it is technically a dub. Has a little something for everyone too: comedy , action , romance , and even horror elements.
MrAgux I saw every single episode of the animated series...
I’m gonna try to watch the animated/live action series soon!

for real
the acting for jeremie and aelita really hit different in this episode, the voice actress REALLY put in a whole lot of legwork
Aelita's best and most emotional episode
17:00 was a very great dark moment, the world is literally falling aprat around aelita and she doesn't have time to mentally process it. when the manta had gotten hit aelita saw that her father wasn't around, odd ulrich and yumi were gone, and she was truley alone. the desperate cry- no scream for help had so many overtones of helplessness, a moment where there was actually nothing anyone could do but watch. I think this moment stick out to people because it wasn't another scene where aelita had something up her sleve or jeremy coul've done something but didn't like in other episodes, this was true suspense.
tldr: xana really wasn't fucking around with aelita today.
You perfectly describe why the key is the best episode of the show and is also for me the best episode I've ever seen in form of Animation because animation can push boundaries like this including children's television Animation, for something like this to be almost anxiety driven suspenseful adding with giving us a heartbreaking backstory of a character (Aelita flashback) this is why now shows like Steven Universe, Adventure Time and Infinity Train they are also did the same thing that code lyoko did in this episode of the key
Aelita cried for help
But nobody came.
I like how Ulrich keeps assuming Yumi is gonna do something with William and yet he goes and does something with sissy smh.
Lol Which is why I ship Ulrich with her tbh. They practically did everything couples do yet Ulrich is too scared to do those said things with Yumi.

Yeah, Code Lyoko series is definitely my fav show by far to this day.
all of the seasons.. this is the best season and season finale in Code Lyoko
ElVaillant I agree. It was the show best season finale and its best episode.
Agreed with season finale, but I liked season 4 better. SPOILER ALERT:
And that's mainly because of william being a servant of xana. It made all fights between the team and xana more spectacular. And not to forget the skidbladnir gave the series a new turn. Not every episode anymore was about deactivating the tower. Though season 2 was the second best to me, because it had a really good plot. It was actually the most mysterious season which reveals its secrets bit by bit throughout the series, especially at the end.
This is the best episode of all time in animation, this is boundary pushing television, The Code Lyoko production team were not scared in bringing out suspense anxiety driven fear and heart-wrenching display of character backstory, this is why other shows have done this in the future like Steven Universe, Adventure Time, Miraculous Ladybug, they're code lyoko level quality shows because they're not afraid to push boundaries like this episode did
@@vince1132 Season 4 was the best, it didn't have as strong a finish as Season 2 did, the whole XANA using William over and over got repetitive, plus the inconsistency. The whole time of Season 4, everybody is positive about bringing William back, and you would think they'd treat him better, he is the biggest victim of all given how every thing went, and he is shunned and pushed away despite how much everybody before hand wanted to see him back with them.
Otherwise, the aesthetics and general approach of Season 4 was just amazing, the Skidbladnir really expanded the scope and I feel like it and everything it represents is the best thing to have happened to the show and setting in general.
Final Round was more because of an Evolved/Reborn XANA-fied Individual surviving the complete eradication of Lyoko, it is more worse than XANA escaping the Supercomputer but having both led to the most alarming fate for Earth.

This episode is still my favorite of the earlier seasons. It's the one time XANA actually learned a bit about humans and used his greatest weapon against them, false hope. They didn't question being able to suddenly locate what would have been XANAs most carefully guarded secret, or the relative ease at which they were able to get to it( no monsters in the outer sector and only four creepers at a time when they get to Sector 5). And then there is the fact that for the first time we actually see evidence of Franz Hopper still being on Lyoko when HE controls the Manta's (which next to the Krabs are my favorite monster) showing Xana fooled even him. And then Xana collapses the Core Zone on them, and forces EVERYONE to watch as he basically kills Aelita without being able to do anything. And then there is the visuals of this episode. The lights of Lyoko(specifically Sector 5) going dark when Aelita dies, the four main way towers turning red, the sphere around Aelita foreshadowing what would happen to Franz, there was more detail and story in this one episode than there is in an entire SERIES for a kids show today.
Infinity Train defently has done a formula simliar to Code Lyoko

Anyway, this episode was probably one of the best in the series--so exciting and intriguing. I love Code Lyoko.
I think that had more to do with the directing at the time - one of the main writers for the series wasn't around for the fourth one.
Mitchell Baran, Sophie Decroisette, the head writer for CL's first 3 seasons, actually did write some episodes for Season 4, but she just wasn't the head writer at the time. Bruno Regeste took her spot for the fourth season.
+Infinity Percival - That's my point, dude; she wasn't head writer for season four, so the overall plot had a different feel to it in places along with the individual episodes.

Season 3-He corrupts William and destroys Lyoko
Season 4-Even though he didn't do it, hes the reason why Franz Hopper died.
Jamie .Farrell omg that's true! I never thought of that
And then in Season 3 the victories just keep on coming for him, destroying each of Lyoko sectors one by one with the only one he failed to destroy initially being the Ice Sector, but even then he set things up to put the warriors in a position where they had no choice but to destroy it themselves, eventually destroying Lyoko all together and gaining a powerful new asset in the process with William.

After all fighting X.A.N.A is my job, No Aelita, it's our job ❤️
I love code Lyoko very much this is the best season final I've ever seen ❤️ your fan from Egypt ❤️
X.A.N.A has got to be one of the most cunning and calculated villains ever. As soon as Jeremy was able to decode Hopper's diary, he was able to quickly change tactics and use it to his advantage by tricking the group into believing that they found the solution to Aelita's link to X.A.N.A. In the end, X.A.N.A got what he wanted and escaped the supercomputer.
This episode was always so memorable because of both the good fighting choreography and the good writing.
XANA getting out of the super computer is one of the most dark and memorable things I've seen in animation. I've watched plenty of dark anime and what not over the years since this show stopped airing on TV, and though there are a lot of dark and dreadful things on plenty of anime... shit, I don't remember half of the dark stuff I've seen, but the moment where XANA is released into the whole of the world... few moments will top it. That was as dreadful and depressing as it got, especially whenever you understood what kind of program XANA was, and now literally how invincible XANA had become.

I remember when I first saw this and understood the grave implications of X.A.N.A now being loose without a way to stop it. The only check they had was knowing the option to shut the super computer down was there, even though it was not desirable/preferable to do it. This countermeasure, the only one they knew of that could stop X.A.N.A for certain, was gone.. "X.A.N....X.A.N.A got what he wanted....He has the keys to lyoko...He'll be able to get out of the super computer!" The fear in Jeremy's voice was real, because unlike the others he knew that this defeat was massive and its significance had only grave implications. An ultra intelligent computer program that doesn't eat, doesn't sleep, has power that is beyond their reckoning, and that is deadly malicious on top of it was now completely free of any kind of restraint. The only way to stop it wouldn't work anymore and they had no plan B to speak of.
Absolute top kek- since the day this episode aired 13 years ago up until reading your very comment, I'd always heard Jeremy speak some shock induced nonsense, despite the French version's take. I've been enlightened.
"XA- XANA go anyone.." xD
Aelita as a kid is such a cinnamon roll
A cute pink cinnamon roll
17:50 when i first saw this part i was like: "no! no no no no no! nooooooo! Aelita!!!!" *cries immensely* to me it felt like she died and a part of me died with her.
Part of this is because i had (and still do) have a crush on Aelita.
Same here
I can attest to that. Aelita and Ruby Rose 🌹 😅
What blew my mind about this episode as a kid was it was the first time I’ve ever seen where the bad guy won. It was shocking, like, evil actually prevailed over good in a kids show.
Same here
I think this episode made me cry as a kid. Pretty sure I was in 5th grade when I saw this.
Also my god I didn't remember Jeremy sounding this heartbroken at 18:53.
4:16 'Right, for all you party animals with short memory spans, I'd like to remind you that...uh...'
god, Jim, please never change
Knew it was a bad sign when Odd didn't get sick from the transporter
Ulrich really should wait to confirm Yumis responses to Wills flirting before going all petty jealous mode and coming up with a 1-up plot toying with Sissys feelings
20:40 Guns in a children's show??!!? Take that, 4kids!!
Its OK. They shoot flowers
+Ang3linahJ **Shudders** I don't even want to imagine the amount of censorship this show would get if 4kids got their hands on it.
This shouldn't have happened. This is why I prefer the version aired on Cartoon Network.
And for the record, there's nothing wrong with censorship.
@@thatonepipsqueak887 it's only bad when you have to re-write everything for it to work with the censorship
@CyborgeBolt To be honest I would very much welcome that.
wait every entry in hoppers diary is June 6th.
He repeated the same day over and over for 7 years.
I'm thinking that he jumped back to the same day with all the knowledge he collected
All due to his paranoia or the fact that he's being watched by the men in black
Farhan Saputra remember he created Xana to destroy military weapons and I guess he got caught or they were studying him and looking for reasons to take him out.
kikis deliveryservice TIME TRAVEL!!!
No shit Sherlock
Aside from the unique and enjoyable charm that the show gets from having been geared towards kids, I feel like this show could have been absolutely amazing if had been geared towards an older audience. The subplots and side conflicts betweens the characters, their parents and the members of the school could have been fleshed out in greater depth with moments of slower pacing. This would've helped further develope the complicated relationships that the characters are involved with. As well as add a greater sense of suspense and dread as they face off with a threat much greater than themselves. As much as I still enjoy the show rewatching years later, now and then I do get a little frustrated that sometimes the only reason Ulrich and Yumi have communication problems is due to poor timing. There is certainly a sense of realism to this and as a kid I never would've questioned this but for them to feel the way they do and act on their feelings for each other time and time again only to miss the part where they actually talk about it gets repetitive. Moments with Odd and Jeremy and some of their issues and personal lives could've been explored. For example Jeremy practically works himself to exhaustion; not eating, not sleeping etc. but, fews times are the side affects of this show in more than momentary outbursts, immediately resolved. As for Odd a deeper look into his passion for art.
In the end I wouldn't want the show any other way than the way it is. However I do mean to say that I would've had faith in its production team to have way the show this way, I would only love it more
Amen! This show truly had bipolar disorder!
Now, that's a GREAT idea!
Yeah, I kinda of pave the way for this save formula to be appiled on shows like: Adventure Time, Craig Of The Creek and Infinity Train
The thing is and I really love it, it already was, this legit feels more adult than something for children, though Teddygozzila doesn't exactly feel that but it does give away one thing to make it that: *X.A.N.A. stalks children*
Bro, no matter how many times I rewatch this series, I *WEEP* when Jeremy tells her "we'll save it together." I fucking *WEEP.*
At 18:45 I like the growl that was used to activate the tower in the ice sector that definitely screams Xana.
This roar shows you how dangerous and deadly he is.
Sissi: You.. You haven't seen Ulrich have you?
Odd: Nooo, and he promised to take me to the dance!
Odd is the troll we wish we could be
"What if XANA gets the keys to lyoko???" Yeah... what if??
metalsnake27 funny how as soon as they find out about them they get stolen
metalsnake27 She's dead and Lyoko too
If Xana does take Aelita memory, the video ends
-Code Lyoko: Episode 52 The Key
When I first saw this episode on its debut, it was utterly heavy to see how everything played out in this awesome finale to S2.
I'm still shook by this episode. This is one of my favorite episode of code Lyoko
And it's the only one to make me loudly gasp as a kid at 16:30.
When the bubble burst and Xana's theme came on, I was thinking "No, no, no!"
Caught me off guard.
One of my favorite episodes.
When Xana took the keys to Lyoko from Alieta. Lyoko was shutting down after Aelita died and Xana turned all the towers on Lyoko red for his victory of freedom. He can now take over the world as he wanted. But that didn’t stop him. France Hopper saved his daughter by giving her memories back and bringing Lyoko back to life. He did all that to save his daughter’s life.
The juxtaposition between the light-hearted scenes with Odd and Aelita’s suicide hurts. Like, a lot.
This episode could have been two parts. The first part ending with XANA escaping the supercomputer and the second part containing Aelita‘s memories and her revival. So much could have been shown with Aelita’s past and what happened to her mother
Things that have never entered Ulrich's mind:
1: "I should hear Yumi out."
2: "I should stop taking every opportunity to avoid confessing to Yumi."
3: "I'm happy with being this short."
6:58 man, going from this intense, heart wrenching scene of Jeremy coming across Aelita after she basically tried to commit suicide and convincing her to keep on living to light hearted Odd and Ulrich talking about the school dance is jarring!
This episode had me on the edge of my seat as a kid. I remember thinking about it for months after it aired wondering what was going to happen, and then they changed what time the show was on so I wasn’t able to watch it anymore
11:48 - 12:48
DAYUM! They really brought their A game today
Ulrich makes me shout out "BRUH!" more than any character ever. Lol
The constant distraction when feelings are to be said! xD
