What is the difference in sound quality between the A11 Tribute and the A11 MK2?
The suite of WiiM products is simply outstanding. I have a mini & a pro plus. Amped for my WiiM amp purchase in the New Year. Thanks Cheapaudioman! I tell everyone to check out your awesome and entertaining posts!
I was hoping the Emotiva A2 mini would be on the list 😢. Based upon your review and it’s versatility and fantastic sound at a great price. I had purchased one and absolutely love it ❤
Wiim as a company just drops bomb after bomb. Also an old school Rotel fan from way back. They make great stuff.
I wish you a Happy New Year and a long life to you and your channel!
When using two za3 as monoblocks with a tube preamp is better to set the monoblocks at max volume and using as main volume pot the preamp?
My respect
Really appreciated the message at the end - be grateful
Hi Cheapaudioman. I've watched you for a year now and for Xmas I decided to go with an Aiyima T9Pro and some Polk ES15. I am really disappointed. To get some volume better than my Earfun Bluetooth speaker that cost me 45 USD, I need to go to 70 volume just when the clipping starts. Is my Aiyima broken or I made the wrong choice? Thanks and Merry Xmas.
Just received my 2 ZA3s. Wow. Channel separation is incredible. Using Geshelli connected with mogami XLR cable.
I’ve heard good things about the class D Hypex Nilai500DIY 250W Stereo Amplifier Kit. It seems right up your alley because it’s DIY but doesn’t require any soldering. Takes like 40 minutes to assemble. It’s not cheap at $1500 but it could be a value. Some people favorably compared it to amps at 4-5x the price.
Still enjoying my T9 Pro.
(It is the second I’ve had. The first had some microphonic noise from the tubes). It does a lot and pretty well for my desktop needs. I compared it to multiple other amps, and the T9 Pro outshined all of them in Jan-Feb ‘23.
@cheapaudioman I recently bought a Fluance RT81 plus turntable and paired them with Klipsch R-40PM powered speakers. Was thinking about upgrading the speakers to the Fluance Signature HiFi 2-Way Bookshelf Surround Sound Speakers and pairing those with the AIYIMA T9 PRO 200W amp. Do you think this would be a worthwhile upgrade and that these two would go well together? Or is there something else about the same price range that you would recommend
I feel like the Fosi Audio V3 was such a huge release that it warranted at least an honorable mention
Thanx for your great content! You got me hooked! Now I´m thinking of buying either the WIIM AMP or the Totel A11ii with the WiiM Pro Plus. Do you think the latter is the simplest and best-sounding option for that price point? Thanks for your time and effort with this video!
I'm on the fence about getting another power amp. I got the Aiyima A07 this year. It's really good but overheats when I turn it up more than 3/4 volume, especially if it's a hot day. Not to say I really need that extra volume... if I want it loud I usually turn it up a little past the half way point. It sounds way better than my old Kenwood surround receiver.
I'm debating between Rotel + wiim or just the wiim for a 2.1 system. I generally prefer to keep things separate so am leaning towards the former. Curious as to your opinion on which is best for soundstage. They'll be driving a great set of towers and I already have a great DAC
Thank you for bringing the ZA3 to my attention. Just got one. Can easily match my audiolab 6000a. Might be even better because of the massive power reserve comparted to the audiolab... need to listen more.
Thanks for another great video Randy ! If the T9 Pro had HDMI, I wouldn't even look at any other amp. The coolest looking cheap amp ever.
I don’t believe you reviewed it, but Steve G liked the Dayton Audio HTA100 integrated. Yeah it has tubes, but just in the pre amp stage.
If you roll opamps try Burson audio. All discrete components and sound great. Australian company offers dual and single types
Thank you for a great year of hifi videos Randy! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
The Nobsound 5.1 amp fixed all my issues wiring surround passive speakers for PC gaming
Hi I'm 52 and rebuilding my stereo what you think is better rotel 1590 or emotiva for a pre amp ty
I'd be intrigued if Wiim could do a class AB version of their Wiim Amp
Hey , I'm intereted in the T9 amp as it seems perfect for my needs but dont know anything about tubes. Can any one tell me about on going costs, availability, downsides ect of a tube amp?
Thanks Randy! Another great video. I have bought many amps on your recommendation. And all have been great. The only issue with the channel now is that the gear you recommend sells out much faster than it used to! Steve from Tassie.
What is the difference in sound quality between the A11 Tribute and the A11 MK2?
What about the RSL amplifier? Didn’t you like that one? Thanks
I can totally understand the "frequently returned item" thing regarding the T9 Pro. I bought one and the sound signature was just all wrong to me. I would describe it as cold and dry. Plenty of power and nice features, but the sound quality was lacking a lot compared to other (and cheaper) mini amps that I own.
I agree, I a/b tested one I bought for my brothers system I was putting together. Did keep it because of the form factor and features all in 1 little amp. Perfect for his use case. From my perspective it just lacks bass cleanliness and soundstage compared separates worth approximately 50 -70 euros more (which yes is 30-50% more of its value) but the difference for me is big enough to not personally want it. He is very happy with it though! (I compared it with smsl su-6 and aiyima A07 36v at the time)
To me the sound is nice but the volume is very low. I use Polk ES15 and I listen about 2,5m away (8 feet)
TBH the bridge mode the ZA3 runs in doesn't give you extra power at lower impedance, to see the extra power you'd need speakers that dig down to 2ohm or less.
Noob here . How do I run multiple amps to run two bookshelf speakers and a center channel?
Some wise words and life advice.
HELP. If I get the WiiM Pro Plus then I only need the Rotel A10 MKII…correct??? If I get the WiiM then I’ll already have DAC and won’t need the Rotel A12…correct?..
Have you done a vidio on op amp upgrades?
Thanks for another award video. I Have Rotel separates and both the preamp and amp are fantastic. The amp is Rated very conservatively at 200 WPC into both 8 and 4 Ohms but more powerful when you need it. Great stuff. Have a Merry Christmas!
Just got my ZA3. Amazing! Have it hooked to my SMSL SU1 and Wiim Mini. Small factor but large sound!
I’m waiting for Wiim to put out their new amp with a screen. If it reminds me (in any way) of the Naim Uniti Atom, I’ll be amazed.
yeah. I can't wait to see what they do next.
@@cheapaudiomanit’s remarkable how quickly they’re putting out upgraded product.
So I'm a bit torn on this. I really like album art on my TV, but good streamers(that I'm aware of)don't do it. A 3-4" display is worthless to me, being almost invisible from across the room. If the streamer was a hi-fi tablet with a 6-8" display, how expensive would it be? Something like a Tab S9 with digital out and remote?😂
I think it's a streamer, not an amp if you are talking about the WIIM Ultra.
@@ADREISTER For me, the screen is nice because it gives everyone the available information of the music.
But, I’m starting to think that a decent TV may just be the best music streamer for everyone. Big screen. Plays music well for just about everyone.
The further I get into this Hifi game, the more I think most DACs and Streamers are a bit superfluous. A good amp, good speakers and a good TV may be all most really need.
But audiophiles sure love tinkering
If this video had come out two days ago I'd be sitting here with a Wiim in my home shop rather than the Fosi BT20A Pro I just picked up! Maybe I can get the Wiim as a B zone amp!
It's still not shipping as far as I can tell.
@@vannk73 Yea I saw that after I wrote my replay but might preorder it from Crutchfield
I love your channel but I don't understand why you would recommend the A11 at only 50 wpc when you can buy the Emotiva basx A2 for $500.
The WiiM amp is a nice unit for that price. 👌
You should do a comparison video of the wiim amp vs SMSL AO300. I really want arc so I can use my tv Remote to adjust volume and I want a high pass filter. These 2 are the only ones I know that has both
Agreed. These are the two I'm debating and I need some confirmation about the SMSL. The looks and screen have me leaning towards it for sure.
Don't forget the new Loxjie A40. Same as ao300 plus it has a phono preamp.
@@starwarsskyline Never heard of it. I'll definitely check it out, thanks !
@starwarsskyline I have a loxjie A30 right now with jamo 809 and S 810 sub. I think the A40 is just a dac. I'd personally love just a dac and get the new fosi amp. if the dac had a sub out and high pass filter. Also I have no idea what the difference is between I2S and arc
I think the DAC is the D40. A40 is new.
I purchased the A07 Max from one of the Chinese cheap apps for $48. It comes without the power supply but I've got like 4 of those bricks lying around anyway. It should arrive Jan 5-6. Can't wait to try it out. Already have the A07 pro at my desk powering the classic Polk TSI100s great desktop combo
A07 Max does not sound better than A07 Pro. The Pro is in the same league as ZA3...
I would have liked to see your take on the SMSL AO 300, I have this amp with a WIIm pro 2 its a great setup:)
Thank you so much for the informative and entertaining Video. Happy holidays. From Korea
Juuuuust awesome! Thanks , man. And everyone , have a great Christmas!👍🏼
Randy, have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year's. I would like to say thank you for your Dedication and your content to your channel. Because me personally I always get something out of your commentary or learn something new.
Just don't listen to these haters. Don't let them get to you! SORRY🤦🏻♂️ I just couldn't leave it alone.
Love your videos Randy! I've purchased a Wiim Pro Plus and a Geshelli Labs J2S on your recommendations. Next up is a new pre-amp. Almost wish i was in the market for a small amp like one of these. Keep up the great work and as always, i look forward to more of your reviews and videos. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
If you only have enough money where you need to get something like the Aiyima T9, just buy a used AVR off craigslist. I tried the aiyima as my first amp. Hated it. No bass at all, poor clarity and soundstage. I got a used yamaha avr for 70 bucks and it sounds worlds better
Yup Yamaha And Denon AVR are very good even for their MSRP. Used ones for 40-50% off is a steal.
Agree about the sound BUT they are huge, complicated and very power hungry.
@@Cinoism as beginner what good used one for around 200€?
@@DieTabbi Depends on how demanding your speakers are. Denon, Yamaha and Marantz are ones of the better ones. Just don't go above 5-7 years old.
I have a 7.1 onkyo that a friend gave me, but I feel like I can’t hear a few notes on a 2.1 set up. Like the dialog is as loud as a glass falling in a movie. That’s why I’m thinking about a class D. Does anyone know what I need for a simple 2.1 home theater?
I wish I could trust the Wiim stuff. The mini that I bought never stayed connected and would drop out all the time. I can only assume it was streamer because I don’t have this issue with any other products I’ve used in my house.
Had similar issue, but mine was related with on the signal strength. I moved it to another part of the house and no issues. In place of the mini Iput the WiiM Pro and no issues with signal
I've been using a WiiM mini for a couple of years and it's been awesome the whole time.
My WiiM pro has been a delight. It gets super regular updates and fixes and just becomes better every time. Tidal changed to high res FLAC, couple weeks later I can chromecast that too. They really are on top of keeping the product working to the best of its capability. Probably the best purchase I made for my chain, I listen to music more because its so easy now.
cant say i recommend anything less than the wiim amp tbh if you care anything about sound lol
Sony STRDH190 2 channel receiver. $148. 90 Watts per channel into 8 ohms (that is before clipping, not after it like little amps). Phone input. Bluetooth. Previous model had hdmi ears, dac, room correction, etc for like $100 more bucks. But they cut those features to be cheap, so you really missed out on a product made for you and your audience.
Salty
He’s talked about that amp for 3 years.
Onkyo TX-8220 has binding post speaker terminals (not the crappy push pins), DAC, sub output, tuner, rated to handle 4 ohm speakers, BT, and a phono input for $250. I would pick this over the Sony by a lot. Good luck and Merry Christmas.
Onkyo TX8220 with Elac Debut 6.2 is a killer combination. $440 for both is pretty tough to beat!
Only talked about products I listened to this year. I listened to that one 3 years ago. Hence the title
Hopefully a review of the SMSL AO300.
I have it. Its a hell of an amp
HAPPY CHEAP CHRISTMAS RANDY!!!
So, real question here, does the Aiyima T9Pro sound better than the T9? I realize it has some different stuff and the dial is orange and all, but does it sound better?
Yes. I had both. The pro sounds stronger, more authority. In addition the screen adds a lot of user friendly information. The remote is better and has a wider range.
They come with the same power supply so its going to be quite the same. With the T9 or Douk ST-01 the best thing you can do for them is get atleast Riverstone Jan tubes plus upgrade the power supply to 30-35 volts 10Amps.
@@jesses1589 thanx. I did do the Riverstone tube and they helped a bit. Ive not yet replaced the poser supply but might try a few I have laying around. I’m really pleased with the sound for a secondary system (being fed by WiiM mini optical and feeding SSCS5s). Next step will probably be a small powered sub.
@@jemsmay2167 You're right, the sub will be the bigger difference. I did my power supply cheaply. It is a 36V 360W 10A universal power supply. The voltage can be adjusted down to what is needed via a pot screw. I wired it up with the barrel plug of the old power supply. It really did give the speakers some punch, so much so that I dialed my sub down.
The Sub came before the power supply upgrade, just as you wish to do.
This is what I use for my PC sound: Douk ST-01 @ 32 Volts fed via optical, Voskhod Rocket 6j1p-ev tubes (much better tubes IMO), Klipsch RP-160M bookshelfs and a R-120SW sub.
its fine if you prefer other brands theyre great iems in the first place
If I want with sub out, would be WIIM amp or Rotel Tribute?
Hey Randy, my choice for traditional integrated amp would have to go to the Marantz Stereo 70s. It has a bigger power output, marantz amazing sound and a lot of hdmi inputs. Let me know your thoughts
Likely a solid choice. I've has a budget PM6006 45wpc (update version is PM6007) for over a decade. Marantz 70 is not cheap even here in UK.
I don't know price wise what completion it's up against for power /quality in USA. Emotiva ?
Rotel A11 Mk 2 featured above looks a great deal there too. I have the fairly recent Rotel Tribute cd connected to the budget Marantz 👍
While $1,000 MSRP, the value proposition is very much present in the Marantz 70s. Would love to hear in the wild...
Thank you as always for this equipment review and ranking. Very helpful, as always, but hopefully, in this next year, you will fill your heart with the warmth and glow of some smooth tunes modulated by some glowing tubes. 😂😂😂😂😂
Fingers crossed!
@cheapaudioman Not too tightly I hope. 😂😂😂
I'm hoping for the headphones of the year recommendations. I know nothing about headphones. I moved to condo so I can't really blast my Yamaha RS 700 receiver and B&W set up. Classic 70's and 80's Rock is my jam. Any help would be appreciated.
audezes are the most 'safer' choice
This isn't the page for headphones.
If you'd like to help someone with no way (financially) to get a nice amp to start the wifi journey, please consider offering the Fosi ZA3? I would absolutely Love to have one, but unfortunatelly just can't afford one... 🙏
On the RUclips thread on my iPad I had the choice between watching this or a report about why menopause is causing divorce! 😅……I’m watching this 😊
Can you link me to the menopause thing. I may need it.
😮😢😂
Menopause is causing divorce. Women should be ashamed of themselves.
Hehe… I got divorced and started buying stereo equipment.
Gonna take a bet on the Loxjie A40 as a contender for one of the best all in one amplifiers in 2024. Peace and love. Happy holidays!
Exactly Randy. We sometimes forgot this hobby is all luxury items at $50 or $50,000. We’re very lucky.
what about the smsl AO300
No reason to have the AL200 on this list when the AO300 exists. +$30 gets sub out, hdmi arc, and a way better display.
Surprised, Randy ,that no comment was made for the Fosi V3. After all, that baby kicked it all off ...
Ferrum Oor + Hypsos, Holo Bliss, Enleum R23, Woo WA33, Hifiman Prelude...
Merry Christmas Everyone!
Hahaha! That looks like a can of A&W...
Was surprised that the WIIM amp was not titled first 😂
Merry Christmas to you and your family, Randy! Thank you for another year of wonderful information and entertainment. God bless!
What’s up, Brother! You too my friend.
Hey Randy - I always enjoy your videos and you are the only youtube channel to whom I have subscribed. Off topic here but I was wondering if you could possibly get your hands on some Zu Audio products. Their DWX and DW6 speakers are decently priced and I would love to hear your opinion of them. I would like to specifically see them compared to the Arendal THX S Monitors you recently reviewed. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!
would love to. I'll see what I can do
Thank you Sir!@@cheapaudioman
Same here. I want to get the DWX, but been keeping my eye open for a CAM review. I think I share the same sound signature likes and dislikes. And, I appreciate Zu’s business model/philosophy.
~ a·fi·ci·o·na·do
Keep up the great videos 😊
I'm trying to figure out how to recreate the connectivity of the wiim amp with separates while not doubling or tripling the price. TV is HDMI or toslink. Turntable rca obviously. Cd transport has toslink. How... How the hell. Oh and streaming with wiim.
I was thinking wiim pro plus with fosi za3 but I don't see how to have the TV and the CD transport.
Would you rather take the WiiM Amp or the Fosi ZA3+WiiM Pro+Smsl SU1? Thanks and have a nice holidays :D
Randy mentioned the the WiiM Amp review video, that the Fosi V3 amp, WiiM Pro streamer, & the SMSL SU-1 stack sounds significantly better. I highly recommend using the 48V/5A power supply.
Keep in mind that the Wiim amp has bass management and hdmi which is huge if you want to hook up a TV. Honestly I got a V3 with 48/5 and it was ok. I ended up selling it as I felt other amps sounded better with my speakers.
@@chrishamilton5960 What did you end up using for an amp? Suggestions welcomed. Thank you!
@@ramondelgado6778I ended up using a Linn LK100 which works well with my Linn Keilidh’s. I also liked the Rotel rb-1510 that I also picked up used. Both amps seemed to have better bass control and slam. Obviously Randy liked the Rotel integrated.
the stack is almost always better.. thats how i would go.
id gladly take some hifi stuff👀😂
I found this video informative, entertaining and valuable. Merry Christmas my friend.
Unprompted!! No joke my 4 year old granddaughter has a message for you!!! How can I send?
You need to stop the Schiit hate lol. They are the very definition of cheap-audio-man! Incredible sound and parts for the price.
Any idea when the Fosi Audio ZA3 will be available to purchase in the U.S.?
March or April
marry christmas audio man.
Merry Christmas to you and your family, Randy! Figured it would be the WIIM - they are knocking it out of the park.
What do you think of Cambridge Audio AXR 100D ? (600$)
enleum is great and i believe has bass boost feature which is handy, sounds highend and has great depth/center space, lessfox is obv better but not necessary
As Always Randy may you and Yours have a Merry Christmas 🎄. And always up for an opinion.
Thank you kindly
The TI chipset that Fosi uses is good for only 100 watts into 8 ohms, and 180 watts into 4 ohms before clipping. Those are great numbers but it takes one heck of a good power supply to achieve that running at about 54volts. It is shamefully that TI rates these chips at 350 watts, and worse that Fosi copies these ridiculous high distortion ratings, as that is at 10% THD, way into clipping. By the time a good power supply is provided to these amps, you are looking at price more inline with real amps. Real amps have quality power supplies with them, and is why they cost so much. These amps also roll off at 10k at above 1 watt power levels. Which for casual low normal volume listening is fine, as most people never even use 10:watts.
He’s discussed this many times
Really good value products here. Thank you for sharing Randy. All the best.
Thanks for watching!
@@cheapaudioman you bet. My journey back to audio started in January. Found your channel. Got educated on dac’s, streamers, speakers, etc. so thank you for all the content. Joined your Patreon in April, what a great group. I’m having fun again thanks to you. Take care. Happy Holidays from Chicago.
@adsph , I was going to say the same thing. Only add a year😉 it's a great place to start, because you can hear the improvements as you replace components. Once you get into the more expensive stuff, you need better ears and more spare time.
Merry Christmas, CAM Fam.
Wow! Thank you!
no one explores diy options? though think this day n age everyone likes to try and return if not like. while I live in different region than when younger, my mother in law knew of so many craftsmen but not have same tribal knowledge of where live now, shame as now I dont trust 'word of mouth'
Rotel A10 mkii really speaks to me... just do not need another amp 🙁
New Fosi amp! Just in time to replace the BT20a that almost made it a year.
The Wiim amp needs left and right sub outs that are volume matched to the main outputs. I would have bought it otherwise.
Thanks for the video.
I’m not sure anyone has that on streaming amps under a grand. Could always split the output with a y cable and adjust gain on sub
@@cheapaudioman Thanks. But my subs play over 80 hz.
The Wiim amp is quite special for its form factor. I was excited for it and almost bought one. Then I started doing research on AV receivers. You can get a multi-channel receiver for $230 and up. The Sweet Spot is probably $300 to $350. Amplification wise the receivers will blow away the Wiim amp. The receivers will offer plenty of streaming services also. Plus of course the ability to power multiple channels if you would like that in the future. Besides its form factor it's not as Stellar of an offering As It Seems.
In my opinion, it really needed to have another set of analog RCA inputs, a beefier amplifier section, and a set of pre-amp outputs, and stay at about $399. That would be a killer little unit. It's really a no for me because of the lack of pre-amp outputs.
Outlaw RR2160 MK2 for best integrated.
Wiim is owned by who?
hi i'm a relative newby to audio, could you please recommend for me a headphone amp to power hifiman ananda stealths please? it would have to be 1 component under $1000,i will never plug speakers into it, thanks very much
Saw it coming but a great round up of great cheap audio stuff
...is this the best amps of the year or best amp/dac's of the year ??
I covered that in the first minute of the video
