    You’re going to be everyone’s best friend on the cut. You’re knowledgeable and just about anything boaty and experienced in doing it. I’m still learning. Hope you’re both well.

      Cheers Chris. He is going to have a complete change of identity once he's on the cut. Grow his hair and everything. Especially if he has already given them advice 😂😂😂. Yes we are both good. Really enjoying your chats with people you meet. Hope your well too you certainly look like it 👍

    Excellent work as usual! My wife and I have been following your progress since the keel plate was laid down.
    Only thing I'd suggest looking at, is an electric heater for the calorifier. That way, once the leisure batteries are fully charged, but you have plenty of sunlight left, you can switch it over to the electric heater and store the excess energy as hot water, and possibly not even have to run the engine on sunny days.

    • @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg
      @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg  Год назад +2

      Thankyou yes that was a long time ago hahaha you have the patients of a saint. Yes we were originally thinking of having a solar dump added to the Calorifier but were told we may be limited with our solar bank. In the summer we will have the radiators turned off so the diesel heater will just be heating the water when we need it without running the engine. It would of been nice to have it free from the sun though 👍

    Regarding your battery box many years ago I was told that to get the best out of your battery was to insulate the underside as battery’s drain down on them selves as cold can make you battery worse.Hope it helps Dave.

    You might want to add some extra insulation between the positive battery connection of the stern most battery and the hull. If that connection every rubs through and shorts out to the metal of the hull you will blow _all_ the fuses as each battery will essentially be shorted to the negative side of the system through the engine & hull.

    Great to see you both back, Happy New Year and I am looking forward to watching progress this year. and your eventual Launch. Just a suggestion would it be worth consider wiring a couple of Bulkhead type fittings into the engine compartment to make it easier to see when things go wrong or need changing. Maybe consider these battery LED type (I know you can by something similar for under Cabinets / shelfs....just a thought (things always go wrong at night or in poor weather conditions (that's Sods Law)). Looking forward to future weeks Volgs.

      Cheers Gary. Yes we are looking forward to launching this year. yes perhaps a good idea wiring a bulkhead light in there. We was just going to use the same portable one we are going to use as the second tunnel light. We have a couple of stick on ones to go in too if needed 👍

    Nice to have you back. Despite what you said I'd have cut most of the front off of the battery box, even if you can reach them it would be far easier without it. Judging by the huffing and puffin from grandad it seemed not to be that easy. I liked the fact that you could heat the water from the engine and an external diesel heater.
    One criticism, the chap who fitted the engine etc. didn't seem to have made a very good job of it, when he started the engine and put the drive in gear the boat didn't move!!

    • @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg
      @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg  Год назад +1

      Cheers Tony. Yes it would have been easier from the beginning to have it a bit lower at the front but the thought of taking it all out was worse than just putting one battery back in. Hopefully it doesn't have to happen often. We also need a bit of the front cover to attach things as we start to get more things put in there 👍

    Happy New Year. Great to have you back. Very informative vlog. We already have batteries on the boat we are refurbishing however it makes me a bit more confident about extending our battery bank.

    • @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg
      @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg  Год назад

      Yes we will be having a light in there. The camera makes it look very dark in there so thats why we put the torches on but its ok to the eye without a light in the daylight. 👍

    Welcome back and Happy New Year! Hope the Christmas period was great. This means my Sunday viewing is almost back to normal.
    Not far to go now surely? having now heard Wunderlusts beating heart just her life blood to finish :)
    I am assuming your electrics are going to be a Victron inverter of about 3KVa?
    I do enjoy 24hrs in A&E, so I am looking forward to next week.

      @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg  Год назад

      Thankyou and you too. We still have some of the expensive things to buy and are saving hard for those to hopefully be put in before spring. You will get to see the electrics going in in a couple of weeks. Because we have the extra alternator we have gone for a 1600 victron inverter. haha fingers crossed grandad will be staying out of A&E 👍

    Missed you guys, great update really moving on. Can’t wait for launch. Will you keep the Volgs going once in the water also do you intend to become permanent cruisers 😮

    • @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg
      @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg  Год назад +1

      Cheers John, We had a much needed rest from RUclips but now can enjoy the final push. We wont be doing regular vlogs once we launch but will do updates on how we and the boat are doing and if we would do anything different. Having to film everything is taking its toll a bit and once we are cruising it will be nice to enjoy it without worrying about filming. We may change our minds once we have more time. Yes we are going to be permanent cruisers and are going to aim to do the whole network if we can. Glad you are still enjoying the channel 👍

      Cheers George, We are hoping for April but don't want to tempt fate yet until we have everything bought and fitted. Bloody expensive these boat things. Only a few more of the very expensive stuff to buy and fit hopefully by the end of feb then we can relax a bit and enjoy the finishing off. Hope all is well with your boat, the water very high here too. Take care 👍

    Hello from Germany.
    I see that you are using a 5 Port-Busbar for your 5 Bateries plus the "In" from the Alternater and The "Out" as the Exit-line.
    Think about, that the usage of the Inverter will drain the Voltage on the left of the busbar. You used the left port for the Exit-Line and the left batery together so the left batery wil have to give the most power for the Inverter and this will cause this batery to die as the first one.
    Think about using one post for the exit-line and the IN-line together and the bateries on the other posts (IN/OUT - 3bat -2bat -free). Remember that it is very important that the resistance (better voltage as the produkt of resistance x ampere) from each batery to the exit-line shold be equal, not the resistance from each batery to the busbar. It is a small difference but this can increase the live of your batery.
    See you on the cut.
    Reinhard

      Hello Reinhard. Thankyou for that. I have just read your post. I am in the engine bay now and looking at it. Just to make sure ive got it right before i change anything. I should put the exit line and the IN line (alternator) together on one post and then 3 batteries on one post and 2 on another. That would leave 2 posts free? Is that correct. I am also about to connect the solar/MPPT onto the bus bar too on what post would you recommend would be best? Thankyou for your help

    • @reinhardfredebold9169
      @reinhardfredebold9169 Год назад +1

      @@makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg You got it right.
      You can use one post for up to 4 cables, not more. So you can not use one Post for all your 5 batteries.
      You should not use a Post for batteries and other connections together.
      You can connect chargers and other consuments together on posts. That is no problem.
      Everything is a compromise, so you I think that it is the best for you, that you put all chargers, solarcontroller and alternators on the post of the Inverter so they help the batteries.
      The other connections can be put on the other two post.
      Greets from Germany
      Reinhard

From the comments he put on our vlog about us wiring our lights in we got the clear impression he didn't like us that much lol but thankyou for your suggestion.
