Thank you Andy and Lesley. Certainly has made a huge difference, although I'm thinking that we may need more than 300ah, we don't run alot of appliances but in winter when the back-burner fire is on we will need to run the pump continuously so I fear that will use significant power..I guess the next few cold days will gives us an insight to how the battery copes with it. 🙂
We started off with 300ah then added another 100ah this year. We only have 525 Watts from our 3 solar panels so I think we'll be replacing them at some point next year.
Great vlog guys, just a little observation, I've not got a boat yet, driving a boat slowly is like driving a car fast, the steering has to be gentle, looking at ahead to get your best line, try to do it too quickly and your upside down, but don't run away from it, take your time if you are not confident, but make yourself confident, challenge yourself one step at a time, loving you for your time and effort making these vlogs 💕💕💕👍
Hi Nigel, yes slowly but surely I do intend to improve my confidence with steering her and hopefully now the canals are a little quieter I can practise more 😊
You work for 40 years ruled by the clock, you retire and it’s hard to break the habit of wanting to get on with it. You will soon get into the slower pace and have time to enjoy everything around you. There is always tomorrow waiting for you. I wander how I ever found time to go to work. Another lovely vlog.
Nice to see you both enjoying being out cruisingand Ernie looks like he has settled into boat life. I'm sure with some more practice Liz will enjoy taking the helm
Good night everyone are you enjoying your freedom on your own and how's Ernie doing he makes me feel so much for watching every single videos of your adventures where you travel to OK please send him my love and mention me next Wednesdays video please
You need one of those spinning things for your Boxers Knickes and socks. Has a hook on it you can hang it in the front cratch cover inside. Oh ere more tea Vicar 🤣🤔😎
Buy the dog a metre of 20mm rope and tie a knot in each end - hours of fun. Better still scrounge an offset from your favourite chandler - keep the videos coming - great series.... Neil
Lynn here on Hubby's phone mines playing up 😏, Awww poor Ernie and his foot 😲☹️❤, bless him , you did good with the hair cut girl , its just men , they dont realise how talented their wifes are 😂😂😂, he'll be right after a couple of pints 😂😂😂😂, Lovely vlog see you on your next one , Im trying to catch up 😂😂❤, Take Care xxx
They say that dog's are your children?? I well remember Christmas day you scrimp and save to get the kids the big toy that they have badgered you for months to get them. Then by Christmas afternoon they have binned the toy and are playing with the box it came in.. Oh the joy!!!
Hi Liz Paul and Ernie The videos are getting better and better, great to see Liz getting more confident at the tiler won't be long before you get that windlass job as well Paul 😉 We also noticed that you only took that hat off once inside the boat Paul, not quite confident showing off that new haircut in public yet 😂😂😂 Take care both of you Jane & Martin.
Hi there. Thanks for the lovely comments. We on the Oxford at the moment so the tiller is staying firmly in Paul's hand with all the bends this canal has 😂
I lived in Cosgrove my family ran the lodge Hotel I walked along the canal towpath often for miles it's sad to see how it is now but it was nice to see the church I have family there
Re your wash day blues, you can get a rotary airer / dryer that fits into an adaptor that attaches to the tiller arm and is kept upright by the tiller pin, regards Mike👍
Loved the vlog, very entertaining with lots of different content. Paul looks 10 years younger with his new haircut. Your views are really starting to climb, so pleased for you both, you're the best. See you all next week.x
They are horrible aren't they Susan. When I looked back at last week's blog (the tour of the boat) you can see him clearly picking at that paw when the camera is on him. Bless him. I'm so glad I noticed it eventually before it embedded itself deeper 😌
*Kia ora Liz, Paul & Ernie... Paul had no time to have idle hands as he was kept busy, sorting the batteries out & Fishing oh & feeding the moo cows. Ernie was ever so busy chewing on the plastic bottle. 🙂 Liz you were very busy doing the locks, shaving Paul's head & even steering the boat. Ahhh the long tunnel... with no mishaps. I enjoyed this video with the scenery and all that happened... but sadly I had to wait to post until now as YT put me on a 1 day ban... But finally the ban was lifted.. so yay I am back 🙂.nz*
A ban? Didn't even know youtube put people on bans. Whatever had you done?!🤣 all very busy here, never a quiet moment when you own a boat. Don't talk to me about tunnels..wait until you see next week's vlog..we become tunnel victims 🤨
@@uponreflection *yep YT do.... all I did was comment on another yt channel to someone asking a question that I follow & mentioned a brand that also has a channel... I guess it is not allowed. Gee Liz, I thought cruising the rivers etc was supposed to laid back and cruisy... Oh noooooo did you crash in a tunnel??*
Another laugh with you two :) Boats are like stroppy kids, you turn the tiller asking the boat to make the turn, and nothing happens! Then after a while the boat says "oh alright then i'll turn " It'll take a while to get to know how the boat handles and to find her sweet spots. Liz I thought you were gonna do it! right across the napper with a number two! lol . I'd of loved to see Pauls face when he looked in the mirror. Jesus Christ Liz...No Ernie and you end up doing it ?? Your just feeding his addiction! haha :)
Ha ha ha it had to be done, you'd miss it if we didn't end with Ernies voice 🤣🤣. I was tempted to add a few bald bits in here and there but then I figured it would just make it look like a bad job and I try to succeed in life 🤣🤣😀
Guys I forgot to say about the settling in period you are going through. It’s canal time so things in general take longer. A bit of planning is needed but you will get there, your still settling in. 👍🏼
Hi Paul. Very interested in what you have on your solar panels for tilting them. Can you please tell us what you are using. It seems perfect for our panels. We need to tilt them for the winters low sun. Last winter was a bit hard on the old charging. Thank you. Love your vlogs.
Hi Lesley. We have extension bars that can be fitted either side to raise the solar up. They only get connected to the panels when tilting is required and stored away other times. We got them with our panels from Phil.specialist.electrical you'll find him on Instagram. 😀
I am finally back to the future...well, at least back to the present as the binge slows to a weekly vlog. I have done a lot of off-grid RVing here in Canada/US over the years. Parking anywhere from an isolated woodland area to a Walmart parking lot or an off-ramp truck stop if on the run. There is power in numbers and having other RVs congregated in an area always gave me peace of mind. I reserve campgrounds to one or two nights a week... giving opportunity to purge grey/black water tanks and fill up with water. Question: Do you guys prefer to dock at a marina or do you find it safe to be tied up to the canal wall at the end of the day? Have you had any "less than comfortable" overnight experiences?
Wow well done for catching up. Your off gird lifestyle in Canada/US sounds like my sons dream idea. That's what he would love to be doing in a converted van and something he hopes to do someday. We only moor along side of tow path and haven't been back in a marina since we left the marina that we were in while we renovated the boat. I have to say that so far we have felt very safe. Be it, next to other boats or stuck out in middle of nowhere with no one else around. We did however begin to moor up somewhere not so long ago and as Paul was putting the pins in the ground I had such an uneasy feeling so without even questioning it, we moved on and moored somewhere else. We find that if either of us feels uneasy for what ever reason then we move without question or hesitation. 😀
Paul doesn't understand that for us lefties, left is always right and vice versa! I will say "turn right" while pointing with my left hand towards the left! I think we learn to automatically do that when we are at school and the teacher says to the class to pick up something in your right hand and we know that for us it's better to use our left hand. So when Paul says that when steering a boat, you push the rudder right to go left, that is double jeopardy for us! Take your time to learn for yourself how to steer the boat - righties just do not understand! 🙃🙂 Lefty Liz ❤
@@uponreflection You will with time. You learned to drive a car didn't you? When I was learning to drive I regularly drove into a lady's garden at a T junction, because my brother would tell me to turn right and by the time I figured out which right he meant, she'd drop her hose and run! 😅 When I finally figured it out instinctively I was an excellent driver - we just need to learn to trust our instincts and not think about it too much. 💖
Well. That didn't quiye go to plan 🤣 I didn't end up getting one, I did get a small door mat type rug but I know it's not quite tue same but turns out the door sits quite low to the ground so even the thinnest of rugs gets caught as you try open the door and then the door jams 🤪
How about a coat of floor paint or self adhesive flooring (tiles or plank) and screw a rug (screwed not glued so removable for washing) to the engine bay access and win, win ... engine is still accessible ... whoop ... whoop ! x@@uponreflection
Such a treat to see your hilarious vlogs! Better than the BBC! ❤😂❤
🤣🤣 so glad that you are enjoying them. Thank you so much 😃
@@uponreflection i luv your banter mixed with all the clever stuff! Very entertaining and informative! Brilliant!

best piece of advice when we first started taking our boat out,was point the till at the danger 😂
Thats a good piece of advice, I'll remember that when I'm next at tue tiller. Thanks Paul 😀
Great vlog as always. Had our Lithium's installed just over a year ago and they've been a real game changer for us. Andy & Lesley

I have to check my pup after every walk when the grasses in CA start to dry out. Especially between her toes. Glad Ernie is OK.
I may have to get him little boots as winter and muddy tow paths are coming our way as his paws tend to get a little sore.
