The tragedy is that Driving Emotion Type-S is one of only a couple of multilicense racing games on Playstation 2 that included (non-Formula 1) Ferraris, with the only other PS2 game I can think of that let you race Ferraris against other cars being Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 (although Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition Remix had a tuner F355 licensed via Gembella and 24 Hours of Le Mans had a unbadged Ferrari 333SP licensed through a couple of different racing teams (the same way the game also had a Porsche without having to go through EA). The only other non-Formula 1 games on the PS2 that had the Ferrari licence were exclusively focused on Ferrari, namely the Sega AM2 arcade ports F355 Challenge and OutRun 2006 Coast 2 Coast plus System 3/Eutechnyx/Activision's Ferrari Challenge: Trofeo Pirelli.
This was my first driving simulation game. Finding out it got a negative response came as a surprise because of how much I enjoyed it, but I guess there's no quality standard when you're 7. Still this game wasn't usually my #1 priority when choosing what to play.. in a selection of 3 games (we actually had 11, but my bro had a weird monopoly on all of them, only allowing me those 3) I never actually completed it, seems like my disc was damaged and couldn't load a track and got soft-locked whenever I unlocked the Porsche Boxster, effectively soft-locking the entire game
I really like the graphics in this game. Reminds me of Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero. The Cockpit view looks good for 2000. To Bad that it doesnt play well. Got it on eBay for 75 Cent. Now i know why ^^°
Even as a 12 year old kid I knew something was off. I enjoyed Gran Turismo 1 and 2 on the PS1. I could actually control the cars.. With this game I struggled hard. It was like the roads were coated in butter. I loved the music though.
I love these retro game videos,so many good,and not so good memories for me. I remember buying this not long after xmas,thinking it would be a good substitute/make do until GT A-spec was released later in the year.Boy was i wrong!I couldnt get on with the handling,though the graphics were ok-ish. The thing is,back then i spent so much money on naff games that i played once and never again it used to infuriate my wife.lol The only real review media was magazines,im sure if there were videos,like yours,and youtube i wouldnt have spent/wasted half the money i did.The one little saving grace was during the PS1 era our branch of Electronics Boutique let you bring a game back for refund or swap for another,without losing a penny though this was withdrawn evetually.Sorry for the ramble. 👍

Playing this back in the day I thought it was just so 'real' that i wasn't able to handle it and quickly quit. Watching videos like this today I learn it was just a bad game.

I would rather play GranTurismo again. I still did like couple of years ago still a great experience.
It's a game I never had the pleasure of playing, can't say I feel that I missed out.
