Download Festival has just finished for 2024. I have seen, heard and read so many horror stories that I thought needed to be spoken about.

I agree with you in terms of the weak lineup.
As you said, Busted should be nowhere near that festival.
They're openly a rock inspired pop band.
But when you've got artists like Yungblud regularly featuring in magazines like Kerrang!, then it's easy to see why this has happened.
The modern day music scene is alot softer than it used to be because going against the grain and being edgy and all the other things we grew up listening to and thinking it was cool is seemingly no longer acceptable.
Also, I too saw that person wearing the Lostprophets patch on their jacket.
As you said, that could've been so much worse for them.
By all means, listen to them at your own discretion in your own home or via your headphones in public.
But even then, it's still too big a step for most people to see past.
Being Welsh myself, I've tried to go back to their stuff, the first three albums were fantastic back in the day.
But unfortunately you just can't separate the art from the artist on this one.
I genuinely feel sorry for the other guys in the band.
They had their livelihoods and careers snatched from them and shattered by his actions and it's heartbreaking because I know guys that know them personally and they're genuinely a wonderful bunch of dudes, but they'll always be known as "(insert name), formerly of Lostprophets).
If there was any way they could distance themselves from the name, then I have no doubt their new project would take off immediately.
I know No Devotion have a decent following, but they're still essentially just a side project themselves with Geoff Rickley still an active member of Thursday as well.
Kerrang have really weakened over the years. They feature a lot of Indie bands now. I get they are an alternative magazine but their look and what they have always been about has always pointed towards the more heavier sounding bands out there.
Their slogan has always been "Life Is Loud"

I was so taken aback by the 'prophets one that I didn't even notice the other one 😬. Hoping to god that the person in the photo isn't a sympathiser and is also responsible for the stickers 😬.
@@carlsmith2412 Yeah I am hoping it is just an old old jacket someone has picked up from somewhere and thought yeah that is cool, haven't realised the significance of the LP patch. Someone had to have said something to them across the weekend though? Even just a friendly "You do know what the lead singer of that band did don't you?"
To confirm, Elecric Callboy weren't on 2nd stage in 2023, they were on 3rd in the tent (like Busted). They did get booked on a bigger stage this year.
I stand corrected they did indeed!
I believe even last year they were meant to be on Opus but they requested a tent due to the light display they wanted to put on - I could be wrong about that though!
Too bad they had to cancel their set the day of because Nico got sick
It's a shame because Reading turned from a rock festival to a pop festival and now Download is going the same way. I look at some of the American festivals with major envy... Unfortunately that's just the way the UK is now. As you said, Busted pulled a big crowd and went down well because that's the crowd Download attracts now.

It was a buzz being there but the 5 days camping was god awful
Regarding electric callboy on Friday they did a surprise party for one of there crew which was his birthday and nico got sick and that was the reason why electric callboy wasn't there

People are allowed to disassociate the art from the artist. Lostprophets music would be outlawed otherwise, but its readily available on all platforms still, much like Gary Glitters music...and Michael Jacksons too I guess, although not convicted, but we know...
There’s art then there’s art with a massive LP logo over it. I totally get what you are saying but sadly that name is now tarnished by that absolute ?!?!?!?!?
@MTNReacts yeah I know, I'm really conflicted becuase Start Something is back to back banger after banger and FSoP was also a game changer for me (not into later than those two albums). It's a shame that the Lostprohets band is forever tarnished, it should only be Watkins. The band themselves were undeniably brilliant. Tell me, do you think they'd still be a band if it wasn't the frontman who was a monster? Say, if it was the drummer or something? I think they would be. What do you say to someone who says "Lostprohets music saved my life"? People can't just erase music from memory if they have a connection to it, and this is what conflicts me. It's a really interesting debate.
QOTSA are a legendary band with many masterpieces, they are rock headlining a rock festival. They made the headliner slot feel new and fresh, saying that they "have hardly been around" after releasing a new album and selling out arenas in the country and internationally feels like quite a silly thing to say.
I don’t really follow them anymore to be honest. Love their older stuff. See them pop up every now and again. Just not around in my feeds and Spotify etc as much as I’d like to keep an eye on them.
@@MTNReacts Other than that mate, great video, thank you for showcasing what went wrong I was quite shocked tbh. Luckily I just went for the weekend arena and I didn't camp cause I actually really like the yorky pud stand.
Boring headliner, be better as a second to the main headliner. Avenged Sevenfold are in the same camp.

Me and my friend ate at the yorkie pudding stand opposit the Opus stage, she got quite sick and had eaten more than me, i didnt eat much of mine at all but still the small amount i did eat caused severe cramps. Stuck to the Mac n Cheese vendors after and they were amazing. Watching people struggle around in wheelchairs and on crutches was horrible because the mud was so thick and sticky it was impossible to walk in. Also will add the vendors we went to specifically said "check the amount please" we paid by chip and pin the whole weekend and the vendors where fine with it
Hope you both feel better soon and sorry you were some of the ones affected. Good that the vendors you dealt with were actively asking people to check. Good call on chip and pin too!

You only have to see the reaction to Electric CallBoy to see that they should headline the Saturday / Sunday night. Given Pantera were performing in the UK for the first time in 20yrs. As a sign of respect, could they not have headlined one night?? Last year Download couldn’t handle the heat, this year they couldn’t handle the rain. Since Covid, the festival has turned into a shitshow, and rip off venue. I used to visit London to get rinsed, now, download is the place.
Apparently, if you take into consideration the cost for going to the festival, camping at the festival, food, drink at the festival. It is more expensive than Knightsbridge___😂😂😂😂😂😂
1. Download should know about poor crowd control due to their own history (See the Paradise City video - 2 people died in 1988 crowd crush at monsters of rock - precursor to download)
2. How are they allowing food outlets to sell uncooked chicken?
3. I've walked in the mud there, and I wouldn't want to try in a wheelchair - in fact, I think that's why Donnington lost the F1
And 4. I always pull over at the services on the motorway to check my banking if I've used my card in there - always use cash if possible there!!!
Electric callboy played the tent last year not the second stage, but I agree moving them to opus stage and not apex is ridiculous, would have been one of the biggest pulls of the weekend

Just loom over the lineup. I don't get it. Why wasn't Pantera the main stage headliner. The last time Pantera was meant to play in the UK (RIP Dimebag) was tattoo the planet.
Hey man, thanks for the video - I went to Download pretty much every year between 2004 and 2014, I'm 37 now, and the thought of tolerating the "joys" camping and festival toilets doesn't interest me at all - stuff like that doesn't matter so much when you're in your teens or twenties. Totally agree on the line-up, I feel like they've sold out and to me the line-up was very weak - not something I'd even consider paying £2-300 for. I would say Download isn't really a rock & metal festival now and hasn't been for a few years - they need to stop pretending that they are.
One thing I NEVER encountered years ago was food stands selling produce that was very evidently completely unfit for consumption - sounds to me like whoever booked the stands didn't do their due diligence. The surge pricing thing really is a fucking pisstake, festival prices are a joke anyway but to do that in a cost of living crisis - how the fuck do these people sleep at night?!
Makes me sad to say this but I don't miss Download - I'm glad I went when I did, I had a blast and saw MANY amazing performances. But, I'm less interested than ever in attending - organisers of festivals this size NEED to ensure that everything is as on point as possible and it sounds like there was a lot of laziness and corner-cuttting.
The stall known as much box have now also been hit with a cease and desist as they have stolen their art, colours and name from a proper food vendor who have now had a hit on their business due to this. The vendor that it was stolen from has even stated they don't do music events.

Tha main problem with download is that they don't recognize other headlining bands that have a chance. They just care about the same old bands in the same spots. Bands such as Mastodon, Lamb of God, Korn, and my boys in Gojira should be headliners and not under benched on the lineup. Tbh, Machine Head and Pantera should have headlined over QOTSA and FAB. Same thing with PWD for the past years who should've headlined.
Traditionally Download was bad at booking new headliners, but we have had 3 new headliners in the last 2 years Bring me the Horizon, Fall Out Boy and Queens of the Stone Age and all three put on amazing headline worthy shows and are bigger than the bands you mentioned. No way are Pantera or Machine Head bigger acts than Fall Out Boy or Queens. I can definitely see Parkway doing it in the next few years and hope to see Gojira make the step up too.
@@CylonModel2 Fr. I'm not saying Pantera or Machine head are bigger, but I thought they would be better headliners Imo. Having seen Pantera last Feb really opened me up to their older stuff. Plus Korn below SOAD in the past years imo was a joke.

I think Machine Head are an amazing band and the videos I've seen of their Download set (and Mystic set) looks great, but they would have had a smallish crowd for a Download headliner. They are Bloodstock and not Download headliners for a reason. Not commenting on not-tera as they aren't Pantera to me, without the Abbots it isn't Pantera. Will say that Korn are a band that while not big enough in the UK to headline on ticketsales, like Limp Bizkit, both have wide enough crossover appeal to headline Download and get a massive crowd. I'd also say that with the nu-metal revival with Gen-Z both are bigger than ever and them headlining would retcon both to be headliners again. Don't agree that Korn should be headliners instead of System. Of course System are headliners.
